I got mine at 2:03am CST

Logged in with my iPhone using the Store App and it went through quick. Just got the basic watch black band 38mm. I want to test it out to see how it is and also be the first one to try it at my work location.

I'm so pleased I managed to get mine straight away for April 24th Delivery!

I think it is hard to say who gets their watch shipped on April 24th. I got my preorder in immediately. Confirmation email time I got says 2:01 central time. The thing is the email says ships April 24 - May 8. So, I'd assume some people with that date range will get their watch on April 26th and some won't get it until 2 weeks later. (or something)

Obviously I'm hoping I get mine earlier than later. If I had waited to preorder until this morning, I'd be disappointed. June is too far away!! :)

The Apple Store App seemed to come up for preorders before the online store - had no issues at 12:01 PDT ordering two watches for April 24 delivery :)

Did your delivery date say April 24th or did it say April 24th to May 8th?

Steve Jobs' answer to an email accusing Apple of this with the iPad:

"Are you nuts? We are doing the best we can. We need enough units to have a responsible and great launch."

Responsible to shareholders. Not to the customers.

Delivery date

Did anybody actually get Delivery Date April 24th or did everyone get delivery date April 24th to May 8th?

I ordered my iPhone 6 Plus two hours after the pre-order went live. I was quoted a ship date of October 1-6 for a product that hit stores on September 19.

I got it on September 25.

This usually happens on Apple orders. Even after the demand has slipped, something that quotes 3-4 weeks usually ships in 1-2.

Those of us that ordered right after it went live, if we don't get them on launch date, will probably get them within a week.

You do know that designer shoes cost 500+ dollars.
Designer suit 2000+ dollars.
Designer shirt 150+ dollars.
And this watch actually does something, it's not just looking pretty.
Correct - also:
Cars $15,000 to $150,000+
Swiss watches up to the millions. Do you think that people wearing Rolexes get mugged instantly Mr. "ImAlwaysRight" but apparently not very well informed?

What exactly did they add other than the same stupid meme we get after every product launch? Yeah I'm sure Phil Schiller wants no stock available because that really drives sales. I'm sure people can't wait to order something that won't be available for 6 weeks.

People love doing that every year with iPhones. Why would the Apple Watch be any different?

What's the saying about suckers and their money? Oh yeah, they bought an Apple Watch.

I don't think it's that bad, but I wonder what people who spent a lot will feel like in a year when a better model comes out. The minimum one I would buy would the the SS one with the SS band, but at $999 that just makes no sense unless I was specifically looking to throw away money. I've also grown more and more sensitive to that humungous bezel every time I look at it and wonder how I could spend $999 on a bezel that looks straight out of 2007, at least Pebble's excuse is that it's much less expensive and gets a ton of battery life.

Actually, I have a masters degree in it and work for a prominent tech company.

I doubt they truly sold out. Its more likely Apple is holding back supply to create demand.

The simplest explanation is that they didn't know which models would sell in which quantities and are ramping up production based on the initial orders.

I don't think Apple deliberately planned to create scarcity - I simply think they launched without having an adequate supply and kept to their launch date.

Not having enough supply is the best way to plan to create scarcity. It's also got lower risks, involves less cash outlays, etc.

I myself don't buy the implied concept that Apple would hold back available supply to get "out of stock" press. I think they'll sell all they can make as fast as they can make them. But, I fully believe in planned scarcity as it is an excellent, well proven marketing tactic for fueling urgency about any kind of product. How Apple can do it without any deviant connotations is not make enough and/or launch in too many markets.

Because the alternative is that, having been through this same-shortages-and-shipment delay thing EVERY SINGLE TIME, Apple still can't use it's huge logistical brains and giant cash hoard to better balance initial supply & demand. EVERY SINGLE TIME.

So while one can read haters suggesting Apple is deviantly holding back watches in a warehouse somewhere to fake demand, another could read Apple lovers flipping what can look like a weakness or failure to better estimate demand into a shrewd marketing play with logical underpinnings: Apple is too dumb to better estimate initial demand such they they are sold out in minutes vs. Apple is so smart to flex it's big marketing brains to leverage the scarcity tactic (which, by the way, doesn't have to involve holding back watches that exist at all, but can also be accomplished by making too few, launching to too many markets at the same time, launching too soon rather than buying a little more time to build extra supply, etc)?

If it's as you imply, is Apple dumb for not being able to EVER guess well at initial demand? Of course not. They're smart people. So how does this still happen EVERY SINGLE TIME?

The only way that is compatible with the concept that the scarcity play is not utilized is that real demand always so far outstrips supply that no amount of Apple planning nor no amount of cash spent on manufacturing capacity can ever lead to the availability of more than a few minutes of available supply.

With this Watch, I can somewhat buy that it is hard for even Apple geniuses to make a modestly-accurate demand estimate for a brand new product & product line launch. However, it's the same sequence of events with every iterative (iPhone and iPad) launch too. EVERY SINGLE TIME.

There's no Apple put-down in all that- just answering a post to offer another view of the scarcity marketing tactic in a way that makes Apple look smart (genius), instead of seeming to always lack the ability STILL (after all these years) to better forecast demand such that product delivery is delayed within minutes of going on sale.

Not true. Your tone shows contempt. That's not unexpected...

You're saying Apple doesn't understand the potential demand, or their ability to manufacture - as if they are merely winging it. Even though their assembly manufacturers are the largest in the world and maxed out, as are Apple's vendors who supply critical hi-tech parts.

How can it be that one of the most successful companies in the world, be as you suggest, so incompetent?

Apple warned weeks in advance there would be shortages. Maybe it's time to give them some credit, rather than sneering ridicule.

I'm so pleased I managed to get mine straight away for April 24th Delivery!

I did not have that luck, even though I made the order at 3:05am eastern time.... Now I'll need to wait until some day of June... I feel a littler bit frustrated.

Well looks like I won't be getting one anytime soon. I need to see them in person and try on a few before making my decision.

In the mean time, Meh dot com is selling a smart watch for $15 today. So I ordered that and I bet I have it before April 24!

I just checked your $15 meh dot com watch. It's SOLD OUT!!! In an hour!!!

Apple watch has some serious competition here :D

Very disappointed. I live on the East coast and stayed up until 3am to buy. I got into the Apple Store App around 3.02am selected the 42mm space grey Sport Watch. It said ships 4/24-5/8 Standard shipping and had an option Want it sooner? I selected that option, when the screen updated it had no other shipping options and had changed to Ships in 4-6 weeks!! If there is no other shipping option why in the hell is that option listed??

We have Tim who is supposed to be Mr. Logistics and Angela (who is paid ungodly gobs of money) and is supposed to be Mrs. Retail and this is what we get??

I love Apple products but I am really getting tired (3am each launch) of the shenanigans, Literally!

Speaking only for myself as a not wealthy single dad, this was announced months ago and once I paid bills, bought groceries, kept my growing child in fitting clothes, etc. I chose to tuck away a few dollars a week to buy myself the extremely rare "something nice for myself."

I think my priorities are okay.

The concept of saving up for something has pretty much died with the credit culture. All my devices, including my Macs, are payed with cash. People think I'm rich, but I buy them just by putting away money each month. All you have to do is not live beyond your means and put away money. Do I get what I want right away? No, but I'm saving a ton of money over my life time not having to pay 10-20% interest.

I have to say I'm glad I preordered when I did. Just seen them in Apple Store Westfield London (which, contrary to earlier rumours has the full set on display, including gold). Looks like I made a good choice going for the Milanese loop SS but the sports watches look better in the flesh and the leather loops look nice (I'll be picking up the blue one when they're eventually available!)

Yup. I got mine within the first few minutes but went and had a look at the ones in Stratford as well. I hadn't expected the retina display and framerate to be as slick as that. The transitions on the demo units were gorgeous, although it was clearly a looping video. I hope the real apps are like that.
