Several versions of the Apple Watch and Apple Watch Sport are now showing as "Sold Out' on both the US and UK Apple Web Sites....

Does this mean the much rumoured Apple Watch 2 is imminent?
I don't know if Watch 2 is imminent or if running out at stores is an implication, but the classic leather bands on Apple are almost all sold out. One or two colors in 42mm are available. I was interested in marine blue and noticed that only brown was available - maybe yellow or white, but all the rest were sold out.

Long shot "I hope not" is the new watch doesn't support the current bands. I would be one angry Apple customer. :)

I think Apple Watch 2 will be so much better that they will discontinue Apple Watch 1 or do a Apple Watch SE like reintroduce it with slightly better specs plus Apple Watch 2.

If the current rumors turn out to be correct then it makes sense that the current :apple:Watch is in shorter supply. Apple is likely limited in the number of S1 chips now that it appears the :apple:Watch will carry the same S2 chip as the :apple:Watch 2 and be sold along side.

This leads to the question of nomenclature. Will the :apple:Watch 2 be called the :apple:Watch 2 or something else? And what will the current :apple:Watch and the updated original S2 version be called? The original :apple:Watch and :apple:Watch 1.5?

Wonder if Apple will jump and call the new one the :apple:Watch 3 to line up with wOS 3. Remember they did this sort of thing with the iPhone 3G. Also this would allow the current version with an updated S2 chip to be called the :apple:Watch 2.

Do you have evidence that S1 chip supply is constrained? Otherwise, it's not a good assumption because Apple has always been able to sell previous generation iPhones/iPads with previous gen chipsets alongside the newer generations. Chip manufacturers don't typically cease production of chipsets unless they're a few generation old, especially as long as there are demands for them.

They called it iPhone 3G, and it had iOS 2. iPhone 4s had iOS 5. We're now on iOS 9 on our iPhone 6s/6s Plus. So much for lineing up.

No evidence just speculation as I did say 'likely' as in maybe, could be or what the hell do I know for sure and may be totally wrong. Also most recent and most plausible rumors are that the current :apple:Watch will be updated to the S2 (and "improved waterproofing") and the current S1 will not be sold. This updated S2 'original' :apple:Watch will be sold along side the next gen :apple:Watch. Very unlikely Apple will have 3 different generations on sale at one time (original S1, original S2 and gen 2). Since Apple will no longer use the S1 (likely, possibly, may be or what the hell do I know) then it may be out of production and in limited supply. Or I may be totally wrong since I'm just speculating and pulling thoughts from my rear for the fun of it.:D

There was no iOS 2 and it was not iOS until iOS 4 (I think).:p So the iPhone 3G just got version 2 of the iPhone OS. Also I said "this sort of thing" which means a type of analogy and not a literal comparison. ;)

I'm thinking there could be a new watch....if it has a much better battery I would be very tempted to get it. My 38 MM doesn't last an entire day (not without a top off mid day) and the new WatchOS 3 is awesome for response but it's really taking a toll on my battery....

Did it ever last all day or is this just because the watch is getting older?

The iPhone 3G shipped with iPhone OS 2. iPhone OS/iOS versions don't necessarily line up with iPhone iterations in terms of numbers.

Would it not also be bad news that the bands sell out, would that mean a new band connector is incoming?
This is a good point. All but two classic leather bands in 42mm are either sold out or unavailable. No date given. The only two available are brown and yellow I think. That could mean that AW2 is coming and the bands aren't compatible. If we are playing this guessing game.

I do believe the inventory is drying up for the watches and bands and a new AW2 is coming out in September and the AW2 will be compatible with old bands but new colors and/or version of the bands. My guess is new bands will have sensors included but that is my hopeful guess. The sensors for heart rate work on the watch now but too inconsistent for many. New bands will hopefully add heart rate sensors and maybe body temp and ??? Built in barometer on the watch probable.

I think the Apple 2 will be the 'One more thing' at the September KeyNote. A lot of the Watch bands are also showing 'Sold Out.' I'm think we will be seeing a whole new line of bands and Watch 2 models introduced relatively soon.

Wow, I still can't believe it that its this low. If only it was 42"
Although I'm glad its not as I really should wait for AW2 :)

I paid £420 for the 42mm version just under 2 months ago from Currys. Could tell it as old stock, it was sealed but a bit dusty!! lol. Still a great saving. sold out the day after I think.

I'm willing to bet that the gen 1 bands work on AW2. Keep in mind that Apple seems to update the bands each season so they've gone out of stock before. Then again, Apple is money hungry so I wouldn't be shocked if updated the band connector.

Stainless steel with product red sport band is now £278 at PC World/Currys. A great saving.
A great savings? At this point the AW1 is so slow that I'd advise anyone to hold onto their money and wait for the AW2, even if it requires a few more months of saving up.

Not on watchOS 3 betas.

Nah, it's still slow. I've run every developer beta for context. It's better than wOS 2 but it's still a sad excuse of hardware. I'll probably be upgrading to AW2 as basic functions such as starting a timer or using Siri in wOS 3 beta is still slow and I encounter the spinning circle throughout wOS 3.

My goal is that using my watch to do XYZ function should be equally as fast as doing it on my phone. If I can pull out my phone and start a timer quicker than using my watch, there's a problem. Hopefully AW2 solves this. If not, I'll just hold out for AW3.

I disagree. My watches work better than on watchOS 2. For sure. Beta 6 is great. In saying that though, a S2 soc will help a lot for sure, but I doubt it will make a major difference once new features gobble up any newly added bells and whistles. Time will tell.

I never once said that wOS 2 was better than wOS 3. In fact I stated that wOS 3 was better but still not good enough. I'm not sure what you were disagreeing with in my statement then?

We all know the spiel about speed. No matter how fast wOS3 seems on the original :apple:Watch it will be 'blown out of the water' by the next generation :apple:Watch. We will all look back and wonder how we managed with such a slow iDevice (original iPhone and iPad as examples). :D
