Fair enough.

Is it normal for a considerable amount of water to spill out of the speaker/microphone holes once it's air dried and you shake it? I've submerged my Watch several times and never had this happen.

I don't know specifically about the watch, as I just got mine and I'm a little afraid to try it wet, but I'd say YMMV.

I plan to take my swimming. I don't care about the speaker so much as I do about the microphone since I do use Siri on it, but I keep the phone itself on mute. Wonder if someone will make an accessory magnetic strip to cover the holes for swimming. Presumably with the holes covered, it would last even longer/deeper in the water. I could see myself paying $5 for that.

Yeah that could be a great idea. Although it would ruin the ease of just going swimming without thinking twice. The convenience of not having the speaker issue would be nice tho.

What does everyone think about the long term effects of swimming with the Watch? If it's rated for like 3 feet for 30 minutes, certainly it can handle it without any problems right?

So far, no reported case of water ingress specifically as a result of taking it swimming (even outside the scope of the IPX7 water resistance rating), based on the posts here. The few posts on water failure were from simple handwashing and the like, indicating that they were defective from factory.

This indicates that the IPX7 water resistance rating is a conservative one and the Watch is actually more robust than that.

I have an Apple Watch Sport 42mm. I took it in the pool yesterday and after getting out the speaker was much quieter and sounded sort of muffled. I blew into it several times and water came out. After a while I got some notifications and the speaker was working fine again. Today I went to the beach and took the Watch off before I got in the water; I put it back on and then rinsed off in the shower; I also swam in the pool a bit after getting home with the Watch on, like yesterday. Speaker seems to be doing the same thing as yesterday. Any idea why this could be?

so i have had this problem as well when diving as deep as 5.5ft. What it is, is that the pressure is great enough to penatrate those tiny speaker holes. Also in turn those holes are small enough to retain the water well after getting out. If it is damaging anything it is the life span of the speaker, but I doubt it as I am sure the speaker falls under that ipx blablabla.

what i do is give it as quick and violent a blow as I can when i get out of the pool and it is usually normal right away if not very soon. Also have found that if you get out and lay around for a while to dry off, take the watch off and lay it next to you on the concrete in the direct sunlight (not to long as you don't want that overheat message). This has also proved to sometimes fix it as soon as I take it out of the sun (10-15 minutes maybe?).

hope it helps, don't freak out though.

Yeah I'm sure the speaker is able to handle it, as it is rated for 1m. It's an above ground pool so it isn't too deep, maybe around 4 feet or so. I swam underwater for a few seconds maybe a few times, but for the most part I imagine the watch stayed within that 3 ft that it's rated for. And at that point, a couple of feet shouldn't make a huge difference anyway.

This guy tested it up to 40 meters deep with no ill effect, although it was short in duration (the entire test performed within 10 minutes I believe).
