The bumps (there are two of them) are hard to explain. They aren't visible at all unless in direct sunlight at a certain angle. It almost looks like dropping a pebble in the water, a ripple effect. I guess if its normal, but I never noticed this before on my Series 0. I've since sold it so cannot check if this issue was present on that Watch as well.
I noticed these on my Apple Watch SBSS series 2 I have an appointment tomorrow. For the bumps, weird lines on my display and last but not least when I change my bands they like to get stuck and struggle to get in and out. And this is a new watch because I had issues with my last one which I returned. It's frustrating.

I have five of these Watches (Series 2) and none of them have this. And your picture is easily identifiable if my Apple Watches were to have this. My thoughts are it's different display suppliers using different displays or Apple changed something in the process during course of production. My Series 2 were purchased upon the initial release.

I know, I just don't get it!

The one I have and the one mentioned had 2 bumps. the two bumps are on the bottom portion of the display at least on mine. Maybe they has this issue not sure. But that wavy pattern is annoying. Haha. I'll take a picture in the morning with the two bumps they may have explained. Not sure I have a certain one. It can only be seen when it's sunny

Edit: actually I think that wave pattern is just a ceiling

Just purchased an Apple Watch 42 mm Stainless Steel with the sapphire screen for my Dad. The Watch is great, but under direct sunlight (at an angle) the screen looks bumpy and wavy. We can't see these minor imperfections in any other light. Is this pretty normal for the Watch?

I just got a series 3, 42mm space grey. I see the bump you are talking about. It’s as if something is poking up from the oled display. I don’t think that’s supposed to be there.

Ok so update, the first series 3 I bought was from Best Buy. I returned it yesterday and went to an Apple store and purchased a black stainless steel series 3 and the screen is way better, no visible bumps that I can see. Idk if these other stores selling Apple products are receiving different type of stock but that was my experience.

It's likely just different consistencies in manufacturing the Apple Watch display. I know some have had the bumps and others say they don't have them. I also think it's how thorough under the right light someone is actually looking for these bumps to physically see them.

I’m not going to look for it. It would surely trigger my ocd.

I have these bumps as well on my AW3 GPS aluminium. Will see if i can upload the pictures of the “bumps”.
Would Apple justify this complaint and replace it?

Some of the Apple Watches have the bumps where they are visible under certain lighting and others do not, and some just don’t notice it at all or look that closely. It’s just a manufacturing inconsistency, at least from gathering on reading on here. My suggestion to you, make a Genius appointment with Apple and have them inspect it and see what their outcome is. But I don’t believe it will affect your usage with the Apple Watch. But you’re also under warranty as well.

Got the same «bump» in the top left corner on my AW3 Sport. I’m also able to point out some horizontal «waves» in the lower part of the screen. The issue is only visible in bright sunlight (or halogen) and at certain angles, and does not affect the display quality in any way other than being annoying when visible. Called Apple here in Norway, and was told to visit my reseller. When inspecting the display models, I found some to be a bit better but some a lot worse than mine. All of them had bumps and/or waves to some degree. Another reseller had a unit without bumps. As Relentlesspower says, it seems to be a manufacturing inconsistency. I decided to keep my watch and not play the display lottery. Then again, another member got a flawless replacement for the same issue :)

I had those and my replacement has stripes and a ripple where the black line is on the attached borrowed image, anyone have this?

Just my $0.02 - had this on a Series 2 over a year ago. Brought it to the Apple Store. Genius/Tech was really excited, like 'wow, someone else noticed that!' I asked him what he meant, and he said he went through 4 Watches before he gave up - but he thought he was really crazy because no one else had ever come to him with that issue. He let me switch it out once (which was nice, since the Watch had a little damage) but the new one had the same issue. As we opened it up, he said 'yep! It's basically every model.' It looks almost like the piece behind the screen.

I haven't looked on my Series 3 and I don't plan to :D

Anyone else have this who is brave enough to check (the ripple towards the bottom) only in direct sunlight really at certain angles, hard to picture.

If you have OCD don’t look :)

I have owned multiple Apple Watches and I don’t have the ripple effect that you’re referring too. Other members have noticed it, some Genius employees at Apple are claiming it’s nothing to be concerned with and some have had their Watches replaced, but it depends how it’s affecting your viewing experience on the display.

Hey guys read all the comments, and this is very interesting indeed.
Now ..I can confirm these are on the current Apple Watch 4 too. I received my Apple Watch 4 only 2 days ago done a full review on YouTube. Ok .. In direct sunlight AND only on a certain 45° Kind of angle, I have noticed not one but two little “kinks” or “bumps” maybe could be described as little creases .... on the display of the OELD. These are not on the glass as when you move the glass and watch it stays in the same place on the OLED screen. I have got the standard hardened Glass. After reading all this it’s my take that this is more than likely evident of the assembling process and not in the actual manufacturing process ie defect. Say when possibly the robotic arm picks up the OLED screen and places into the casing or if this is does manually by operator it might get creased or dented a fraction that way. It does seem to be yes in “two positions only” as if something has picked it up etc .... Frankly it’s such a minor imperfections and doesn’t affect the watch and any other way or viewing conditions it’s really nothing to get too worried about. I too get a tad over obsessive ie checking things LOL that’s how I found mine first and then found your thread after that on the Internet. Ok ..final thoughts - just part of the slight imperfections of assembly (or possible manufacturing process) you’ve just got to not worry about it ... and to trick the brain by saying to yourself “is if this is the worst thing that will ever happened to the watch in the next 5 years ...you’re okay with that” lol)) cheers Andrew Penman )(

Ha, yep, my series 4 has a small circular bump too (like something is under the OLED pushing up) ... looks to be a few mm wide and on the lower right of the OLED. Only visible in very bright light or certain fluorescents.

Doesn’t affect any of the display itself, but still good to find this OCD thread on it
