I had a feeling people would be upset by this, I myself thought Apple Watch could be around £1000 i hoped I was wrong but I guess not. I'm thinking of getting the :apple: Watch with a sport band and maybe an extra leather one separate, I don't think I can justify over £300 for the link bracelet.

I'm pleasantly surprised after all the rumours.

I'll be getting a stainless steel watch with leather loop.

Just updated my iPhone to iOS 8.2 so I could see the apps for the watch but it's not not live yet

Thats also a slight issue, my jailbreak! arghhhhhhhh

(assuming 8.2 gets ripped open it will be interesting to see if jailbroken apps make it onto the watch)

Same here but still a bit ouch! I was thinking £400 so not awful but does make you think twice.

Are all straps compatible with SS? Might pick up some others later in the year.

I presume the US prices are Pre sales tax as normal as it varies between states. You need to add that in depending on where in the states you fly to get it!

That's probably may approach...pick up a cheaper SS one then wait to see the Apple straps sold separately and the third party market which will be massive.

Not too far from what I expected sis white strap for me I think the black one is outrageous not seen prices for single bands

Worst is, I'll be in the US for a work trip just a couple of days before the Apple watch goes on sale... I'll miss it by 2 days :)

Absolutely shocking prices!!

I was going to buy the stainless steel one at the start of this thread, it's the best looking one but at £859

Unbelievable just unbelievably over priced !!

You had me Ap....oh, then you lost me

Totally agree, £859 for SS. Oh yes! don't forget to buy an iPhone so your new watch can work as a smart watch.

I also wanted the SS with the link bracelet, but at that price it seems to expensive for a product that will updated, and yes we'll all want the new version.

I know your going to say if the SS is to expensive go for the sports version. I don't like to look of the aluminium watch. This begs the question to me, if I don't like the look of the basic version do I really want an Apple Watch?

link bracelet band for £379 are they NUTS?

Look at the most expensive Apple Watch edition in the UK, it's the equivalent to $1400. That's 40% MORE than in the US.

considering VAT is 20% it's outrageously more expensive over here.

VAT and Import Duty, sadly. I could buy the 6 Plus 128GB for LESS than I paid for my 16GB 6 Plus. It’s disgusting.

Nope!! I don't need this watch that much to be honest

At £300 they would have had me but Apple are wayyyy off the mark

I understand what it's being made with and yes it does look fantastic, but I'll stick with my Boss £200 watch and my iPhone 6 without spending £860 on something I would have liked to have had but know I can live without :)

I'll be buying the 38mm black sport, for fun, out of curiosity and largely for gym use.

Anyone even vaguely budget constrained would have to be soft in the head to purchase the cheapest version, never mind the pricier models. It'll be horribly eclipsed a year from now, and likely unusable 2 years from now if you like to keep your phone updated.

Were it a mature product, slimmer, 3-4 day battery life, I wouldn't hesitate dropping £1k on one. That moment is a couple of years away though, at least.

Definitely going for the Sport Edition here...

Granted some of the pricing is nothing short of insane but I actually prefer the look of the £299 model over the dearer watches!

how can they justify charging £299 as an equivalent to $349, when there's an ipad mini that is £279/$349?

So how much extra battery life is the 42mm version going to get over the 38 in real world terms?

In terms of colour, I've been swayed I think into getting the white band version as the space grey version could limit any extra band colours I might decide to get.

I was considering between the sport and steel ones with leather magnetic loop band, but now prices are out and those work out to be £339 vs £599 then the answer is clear.
No way the steel is worth nearly double for essentially the same device!
Shame though, I worry about the tackyness of that elastic band.

I'll be getting the black sport with black band - I also expect this to be the most popular model.

Will get the SS with Milanese loop for £549 I think.
I think this is the sweetspot. You get a steel watch and bracelet and sapphire glass. No reason to spend more on a device that will be obsolete in 2 years.

I was looking at the sport but not at those prices! The UK gets shafted again!

Why do people consider the sport to be so expensive? The new Pebble Time Steel will be £250 when it launches in retail. An extra £50 to get what could be the best built Smartwatch to date, a full 3 months before Pebble Time Steel even leaves the factory. Sounds fair to me.

That said, I was expecting £700 for an Apple Watch with a Milanese Loop, so at £549 I am delightfully surprised. I'll even buy Applecare + at that price!

EDIT: As a sidenote, I will admit that nearly £400 for a link bracelet is total insanity! Thank god I don't even like it.

Forget the likes of Mr Cook, Ive, the engineers etc; the real achievers involved with the Apple watch are all the guys and girls involved in its marketing! They've pursuaded the vast majority of people that shelling out massive wads of cash for a watch that needs charging every 24hrs, isn't waterproof and will get replaced in pretty short order is a great idea!

I doff my cap to these people, for they are the true genius minds behind the watch :D

Hi

I want the 42mm Apple Watch with black classic buckle.

The UK price is £599.00

The US price is $699.00 + sales and city tax (New York City) 8.25%=$756.66. Google says that USD756.66 = GBP501.65. If I pay with a UK credit card they will also charge a foreign transition fee of 2.5%.

So If I buy the watch in the UK it will cost £599
If I buy in New York it will cost me £514.19

So even with taxes and credit card fees taken into account its much cheaper in the states. However I am going to be in New York at the start of May and stock might be an issue at least in the first month or so.

Alex

Hmm, a month to decide whether to bother. If I go get one it will be the 42mm Sport Space Grey, fortunately it's one of the better looking variants for the "budget" price. The SS prices are ridiculous, if money was no object I'd probably go for the Space Black with the black link, but over £900 ? Yeah, right.
