Hi

I want the 42mm Apple Watch with black classic buckle.

The UK price is £599.00

The US price is $699.00 + sales and city tax (New York City) 8.25%=$756.66. Google says that USD756.66 = GBP501.65. If I pay with a UK credit card they will also charge a foreign transition fee of 2.5%.

So If I buy the watch in the UK it will cost £599
If I buy in New York it will cost me £514.19

So even with taxes and credit card fees taken into account its much cheaper in the states. However I am going to be in New York at the start of May and stock might be an issue at least in the first month or so.

Alex

I've got a client who's in Florida currently and she said she'd happily bring me one back.

However, I'm not sure it's worth the aggro...

The Sport I want is £299, the same watch when purchased in Florida works out to £249.

So, whilst there's a saving, we're not yet certain of the worldwide warranty situation.

It would be nice to think it will follow the coverage that Apple applies to it's "mobile" devices (iPhones, iPads, laptops) and be global, but who knows yet?

IF it is going to be a global warranty, then that £50 saving could go towards (and maybe cover the cost of) an Applecare +, so I'll wait and see.

Probably the first time an Apple product has been announced and i'm still unsure of which model to buy. I'm fine with the black sport band as i'll be wearing the watch all the time.

Main issue is if to get the Sport or SS version. I quite fancy the Sapphire glass and steel over the aluminium finish, but at £180 price difference and for something that i'll probably update the next year the Sport seems the way to go.

I'm extremely torn now ..

I had originally decided not to buy one at all, but was given an Apple voucher to cover the bulk of the cost ... so I decided to go for the Space Grey Sports Watch. I then decided against that, because it didn't go well with the strap I wanted (brown leather) - but now I see that the strap is £209 (!) so I'll be forgetting that idea. The Aluminium looks great in the photos, but in the videos I've seen it looks a little bit ... cheap? The SS looks gorgeous, but I refuse to spend any more than the £339 for SW on something I don't need, and not even sure I want yet - I really wanted the keynote to show me something "WOW" about the phone, alas, it didn't.

By the way, I did consider the cheaper 38mm but by all accounts it looks/feels extremely small when on the wrist

Sooo ... I suspect I'll be getting the Aluminium SW with the blue strap in 42mm

I think I'd like the Apple watch in 38mm with the soft pink modern buckle. I wonder how much that will cost in sterling?

How can you see the exact price?

I think what everyone complaining about the prices is forgetting is that this isn't an iPhone accessory as we normally think of them, it's a hybrid device: part watch (and a pretty high-end one at that) and part computer. Go to a jeweller's website and look at the prices for watches with a stainless steel case and bracelet: you'll easily pay upwards of £500 (and, in fact, easily upwards of £1000) for something that only tells the time, never mind being a computer. On your wrist. My main gripe with it is not the price, but the fact that if you spend, say, £1500 on a normal watch it will (with care) be something you can leave to your grandkids. :apple:Watch is going to be obsolete in a few years. Is that enough of an issue to stop you buying one (c.f. your Macbook, iPhone, iPad etc. all of which I bet most of you change every 3-4 years)? Only you can decide.

I did say £400 was the maximum I was willing to spend. £479 aint far off that but I think i'll take the wait and see approach cause I would definitely like to try the watch on first.

The prices for the link bracelet is ridiculous though... But like someone already said there will be 3rd party bands which will look the same and be cheaper. My iPad smart cover is a cheaper 3rd party case and its incredibly durable lasted couple years now.

I think it's fantastic and the pricing doesn't bother me at all (and I'm not rich!) but compared to other decent watch brands it's NOT expensive and neither are the accessories! I think most people are comparing it to other Apple products (someone saying it's as expensive, or more, than a MacBook Air) or an el'cheapo watch brand (Casio for example). This is neither of those things... try and keep some perspective folks, this is innovative and stands pretty much alone in the market (other than some rubbish attempts at a smart watch).

Personally I'll be going for the White Sport model was I think it looks great and will serve my needs best for now, the full Stainless model & strap look great but doesn't suit my lifestyle.

For me, this is the FIRST Apple product that's been announced since the sad loss of Steve Jobs that's re-ignited my interest in the brand... it's been dull dull dull for years now. Finally something NEW and EXCITING and most likely another game changer like the original iPhone was

Can't wait to get my pre-order in :D

Hmmm. While I'm sure you can get stainless steel watches for £500+ I'm also sure you can get them for less than £100.00.

Like I said in a previous post - the triumph of the Apple watch is in it's marketing - the people who have come up with its sales pitch should all get a BIG bonus this year (or maybe an edition version watch!)

Could be me but while I appreciate that there will be those that will pass down watches to their grandkids, will the next generation or two actually want a regular watch? Most kids nowadays are so well versed with iPhones and iPads that maybe they'd see a normal watch as old hat - in the sense of "why would I want a regular watch when an Apple Watch can do so much more...."

Er, yes, but it's not really a high-end watch, is it? Look at any of the mid-to-high end brands (which is what you really need to compare the :apple:Watch to, given what people have been saying about the design and build quality) and you'll see significantly higher prices. You could get a smartphone for a lot less than an iPhone too...

I was dead against the Apple Watch.

I throught it was fat, ugly and lacking.

However, I've made a u-turn after watching yesterday's keynote and now I'm all over it.

I just love the making and receiving calls through the watch!

I'll be getting a Sport model in 42; not sure which colour strap though?

I'm thinking the silver with charcoal straps would look good?

Yeah, I'm definitely pre-ordering ...

I have a pretty expensive mid range watch, it cost me £340.00, so a little bit more expensive than the cheapest apple watch. It's waterproof down to depths far lower than I'll ever dive to. Battery lasts me 10-14 days before I need to recharge it. Has GPS, step and sleep tracking, heart rate, temp, altitude readings etc. you can download new watch faces, change straps and has (as of last week) the beginnings of an app store (admittedly the apps are all very basic so far and will never compete with the Apple app store).

My girlfriend can't send me her heartbeat though, or draw me a picture of a cat on the screen.... :)

EDIT: oh yeah - and it can forward texts, emails etc from my iphone, which was cool for a week or so but then having your watch vibrating every 60secs just got annoying so I turned this function off.

Don't forget VAT @20%, so that is £792 i.e. we pay a £67 premium over the US. I want the 42mm :apple:Watch with the link bracelet and fortunately I can afford £859:)

We do pay a premium over the US, but it is 8.5% when you include the VAT.
People are also forgetting that the US prices is before sales tax and the UK price is including 20 percent tax.

You don't have an expensive mid-range watch, sorry. Check out some jewellers... ;) I guess it's all relative though. Seriously though, it sounds good. What brand? Garmin?

lol- £340.00 for me is HIGH end!! easily the most expensive watch I've bought (Garmin Fenix 3).

I really wanted the Apple watch, but when I started to compare it's (likely) features to the likes of Suunto and Garmin watches I just couldn't see the logic behind getting one as it barely had half the functions or abilities.

The Apple watch with the stainless steel strap looks so right but the price is crazy. I am sure that third party straps will come out that will look just as good for £50

that's what I think as well, it looks so well with the link bracelet that every other combination (including Edition) looks slightly off to me. And I lean towards leather bracelets in general. That's so expensive though...

I want one.

The problem is, my head says it will be obsolete in 3 years, so buy the cheapest one, but my heart is saying buy the nicest one*, with no middle ground. That's a £650 decision right there.

*Black SS, I don't like the gold, not that I can afford it anyway

'logic' or 'reason' have no place in here, please leave at the door. Bring 'hearts' and 'wallets' only :D

I mentioned this in another thread:

I bought the black ceramic Phoebe from Links of London for £250 which now 'only' shows me the time. So £300 for a decent looking black sport apple watch all of a sudden doesnt seem to be outrages at all.

Loving the black/balck sport model, will probably wait for 3rd party watch straps to come out at a much more reasonable price!

38mm for my wife and 42mm for me, cannot wait!

I suppose this is the way to think about obsolescence - it will always be able to tell the time, so when you compare it with other decent watches, everything else is a bonus.

Forget the likes of Mr Cook, Ive, the engineers etc; the real achievers involved with the Apple watch are all the guys and girls involved in its marketing! They've pursuaded the vast majority of people that shelling out massive wads of cash for a watch that needs charging every 24hrs, isn't waterproof and will get replaced in pretty short order is a great idea!

I doff my cap to these people, for they are the true genius minds behind the watch :D

It's IPX7 water resistant, which is up to 1m of water for up to 30 minutes. That's exactly the same level of water resistance as practically every other smart watch out there (besides the pebble).
