True. Actually the Rolex would be worth more after 5 years strangely enough 😀To be fair, in five years the Rolex won’t need to be binned due to Rolex dropping software support.

I think your math needs some work.Area is a quadratic function. So the Ultra has 1164 - 1143 = 21 sq mm more area than the 8. Since the aspect ratio is roughly square, that means that the Ultra has roughly sqrt(21) = 4.6 mm more linear space in each direction. That’s more than an eighth of an inch.
Grab your ruler, and you’ll see that that’s a non-trivial length for something to go on your wrist.
Yes, it would be nice were the bezels as thin as on the 8 — whether because the case was smaller or the display area was bigger. I’m sure we’ll see that no later than mid-decade.
But the display itself actually is bigger, plus it’s got a much larger battery, plus it’s got the extra speakers and microphones, plus it’s got … well, an improved but not as much improved as you might have hoped for display seems a reasonable compromise for all the other leaps ahead in the Ultra.
Nobody’s yet commented on the substantial increase of thickness of this watch; that’s likely to be much more annoying day-to-day. But I’m hoping / expecting to be pleasantly surprised … by the numbers, my S4 would seem to be a behemoth, but it actually looks and feels like nothing. I’m guessing that, by the end of the second day of wearing the Ultra, it’ll feel perfectly natural.

40 meters is 131 feet. That's pretty ****ing deep. Not a diver myself, but shouldn't a dive computer be waterproof and work possibly below 40m?
- * Apple Watch Ultra has a water resistance rating of 100 meters under ISO standard 22810. It may be used for recreational scuba diving (with compatible third-party app from the App Store) to 40 meters and high-speed water sports. Apple Watch Ultra should not be used for diving below 40 meters. Water resistance is not a permanent condition and can diminish over time. For additional information see support.apple.com/HT205000.
actually the action button can be used to anything you want since it works with shortcutsThe Apple Watch Series 4 also has 8 complications maximum, that’s no additional here. Also, the action button is not configurable to be used with walkie-talkie, which is a major fail. It’s also ridiculous there’s no action button for the iPhone to use for things like the walkie-talkie on the iPhone. Why they didn’t port that out to the iPhone is beyond me!
Again if bigger phone is better, bigger watch is better. More battery and the flat display will make the display look bigger as well. Most high end anolog watches are 48mm to 52mm and some are even 62mm. Oversized watches are even a fashion trend with women have observed, and been told. Titanium is an amazing material however the tool like finish is not for everyone. The 49mm is only north to south dimension so it will feel smaller than a 49 x 49. My wish is for 52 x 52 with slightly curved design to fit a smaller wrist and really open up some real estate. It’s not a bigger screen it’s basically exactly the same look on apples site; it’s just the huge bezel and case make it 49mm but not bigger screen, also all these features like brighter display etc should have been on series 8 most people don’t want this brick of a watch but want the new features
