Do you need a cellular plan to use the satellite feature? I don't think apple would deny a potentially lifesaving feature because you didn't sign up for cellular.

Update:All satellite communication features are free for two years with Apple Watch Ultra 3. Emergency SOS via satellite is included with Apple Watch Ultra 3 without a cellular plan, and with an active cellular plan, users can also send messages and share their location with Find My.7

So to really take advantage of all the satellite functionality and modem you need a cellular plan.

It’s a great time to buy the latest AWU that’s for sure.

If you have the AWU original or 2 - don’t worry, you’re still good.

Emergency SOS, Find My, and Messages via satellite are included for free for two years with the activation of Apple Watch Ultra 3. Connection and response times vary based on location, site conditions, and other factors. Find My and Messages via satellite require a carrier plan. To send and receive SMS/MMS from cellular models of Apple Watch over satellite, your paired iPhone must be powered on and connected to Wi-Fi or an active cellular network, but your iPhone doesn’t need to be nearby. SMS message rates may apply. Satellite connectivity provided by Globalstar and its affiliates.
Looks like SOS does not require an active cellular plan, just Find My and Messages via satellite

What’s the difference?
blood pressure monitoring would actually be real BPM values ...

from Apple how they determine hypertension over a period of 30 days, I'm sure there will be a more detailed support article published once it is available.

Receive hypertension notifications just by wearing your watch.

Series 11 can notify you if it identifies patterns of hypertension.1 How? The optical sensor provides data to an algorithm that can detect potential hypertension by analyzing how your blood vessels respond to beats of the heart over 30-day periods.

Ok thanks

I think these 3 features are the most important updates:
• 12mm in thickness compared to 14,4mm before
• Longer battery life at 42 hours compared to 36 hours before
• Charing is faster, 80% in 45 minutes compared to 1 hour before
should be 50-60hrs instead. users will be using their watch for actitivites like workout listening to music and getting notifications thats gonna drain at least 3/4 of the watchs battery life.

According to Apple’s comparison chart, the Ultra 2 does not get the wrist flick gesture.

So the Ultra 3 is a slightly larger display area, 5G, Satellite, and wrist flick
Ultra 2 does have the wrist flick. I used it today on the RC dev beta.

there is no "blood pressure monitoring" - its hypertension detection which is done via SW/LLM using the existing heart sensor. At no time it is checking actual blood pressure ...
Yes I get that. That’s why I said a version of, even though it’s not fully accurate. But yeah, got it.

Sorry for being so pedantic, but there have been so many rumors about this and there are threads talking specifically about blood pressure and Apple very carefully (and smartly so) avoids the term "blood pressure", for a reason.

I have 26beta on the Ultra 2, I can confirm that it does have the wrist flick gesture to dismiss the active screen.

The original blood oxygen system works on my Ultra 2. It does not need an iPhone to work or display.

I think the cludge of Ultra 3 plus an iPhone for display is a deal breaker even though satellite access is tempting.
AWU3 requires an iPhone display for O2?

Since hypertension reading is also coming to the U2, I will stick with the U2 for now. I saw nothing in the presentation that really made me want to upgrade. I still have 95% battery health after 2 years.
