Your Fenix 8 also takes like 3 hours to charge whereas an Apple Watch Ultra will charge from 30% to 80% in like 30 mins while you shower and will last another day or two.
My forerunner charges whilst I am working at my desk, it's no biggie.
Having said that I have preordered the watch ultra 3, hopefully it gets through a weekend, but in reality I'll probably just charge it overnight as I don't pay much attention to sleep scores. You know if you slept well or not.

Maybe it's just me but I've had Apple Watch for a long time (AW3 I think was my first?) - and I always wore it all day and all night. The only time I've charged was when I was showering and getting ready in the morning. Even when I stay home for a few days and ... maybe shower every other day - still works for me. Enough charging time to either hit the 80% optimized charging level or 100% if I need to go out for a long day or two.

My wife does the same with her watch (non ultra). Works well for us. Apple Watch charging has gotten a lot faster in the last few generations.

Lol you’ve not used one. Why not just say that instead of making up BS?
Charges very quickly, nothing like three hours and yes while I shower is plenty once a week.
I don’t have a shower or a mains socket in my backpack though…

If that’s good for you then great. Not everyone needs or wants to do multi-day activity. I don’t think the people commenting about Garmin are bashing the watch just highlighting that Apple have a bunch of limitations, battery life being a major one for people doing a lot with the watch or going off grid. Mapping, fitness, sensor support, file format support and data integration are also huge drawbacks for many of us.

If you’re just wearing it to the office none of that matters, but if doing more then it kind of does.

Makes sense.

You would think that there would be a super low power mode that Apple could do to make that battery last a week if it had to. <shrug>

It also checks for sleep apnoea wheels you’re asleep and HRV etc. Not a big deal but with fast charging you should be able to top it up for 20-30 mins before bed and have enough for another day or two.

True, but I did the sleep apnea thing on a galaxy watch ultra I had for a while and it says I didn't have it. Humans have survived millennia without sleep tracking, and I don't think it will be the end of humanity looking at the news 😂

That wouldn’t change a lot though, the Fenix can last 4 days while running an activity with all of the things enabled. The larger version 5-6 days. It’s a different use case for sure but for those that want battery life it’s not sufficient to cripple the watch and turn it into a Casio for a week 😊

Upgraded a few years back from AW4 to AWU1. Best upgrade since AW2-> AW4. Before ultra, I never wore the watch for sleep, instead put it on the charger. But this changed with ultra, and now I love the sleep tracking. It was a bit counter-intuitive thus surprising, but the ultra does not feel like a brick despite (or because?) its bigger size. YMMV.
Interesting. Thanks for the feedback! I'm going to get up to an Apple Store sometime and try them both before deciding. I realise I can't sleep with it on in an Apple Store 🤣 but it'll give me a vague idea. One night I'm going to sleep with my Series 4 on to remind myself what that's like - it's been years since I last tried. The battery will die before the night is over, but I don't care - it's how it feels that will be the test.
