How about not having to charge it every 24 hours? Hasn't this occurred to anyone that it is feature users may want?
How often do you charge your phone? How about not having to charge it every 24 hours? Hasn't this occurred to anyone that it is feature users may want?
The AWU1 was the smartwatch that I had been hoping for when it was released. I immediately upgraded from the regular AW and have been very pleased with the AWU1 every day. I have felt no need for any upgrade. The rumor of satellite connectivity is the only thing that might make me want to upgrade.
Apple will finally deliver the Apple Watch Ultra 3 sometime this year, according to analyst Jeff Pu of GF Securities Hong Kong (via @jukanlosreve).

The analyst expects both the Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 3 to arrive this year (likely alongside the new iPhone 17 lineup, if previous launches are anything to go by), according to his latest product roadmap shared with investors.
It's been a long wait for Ultra fans. Apple skipped updating the rugged smartwatch entirely in 2024, choosing instead to simply add a black titanium color option to the existing Apple Watch Ultra 2. That means it will have been nearly two years when September rolls around since we've seen any meaningful changes to the Ultra lineup.
Pu's timeline aligns with other industry watchers who expect Apple's fall event to bring refreshes across the Apple Watch family. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has suggested the Ultra 3 could gain satellite connectivity and 5G capabilities, features that would arguably help justify the extended development cycle.
The analyst's broader Apple roadmap paints an interesting picture for 2025. More notably, he predicts that Apple will also release its rumored HomePad tablet this year, while pushing AirPods Pro 3 back to 2026 – a timeline that conflicts with other recent predictions.
For Ultra users hanging onto first-generation models, the wait might finally be worth it. Two years of development could mean more substantial upgrades than the typical annual refresh cycle allows, assuming Apple hasn't just been sitting on its hands.

Yeah, sometimes I go walking/hiking in places with little to no cellular reception, so satellite on the watch would be great so that I don't have to always take my phone with me.The AWU1 was the smartwatch that I had been hoping for when it was released. I immediately upgraded from the regular AW and have been very pleased with the AWU1 every day. I have felt no need for any upgrade. The rumor of satellite connectivity is the only thing that might make me want to upgrade.
You want them to throw in an M4 chip as well? Maybe a fold out keyboard and mouse support. 😜This is what Apple should do. Apple should make Watch Ultra truly standalone, without any dependency, not requiring other device to setup and use. No, I do not want an iPhone; even for free! Free your mind and your hands! Allowing to install any application including web browsers like Safari, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Edge, etc. Add a camera to read QR codes, etc; best if it is telescopic rotating retractable camera in the crown neck (protecting from dust and sweat, besides privacy). Then I am sold, even for 1,000 USD or more.
The article did not imply "to upgrade them for no reason." What the article stated was "....the wait might finally be worth it," which is true [emphasis mine]. This is tech, and significant improvements do happen frequently. E.g. for those who run or walk alone on rugged remote trails like I do, satellite connectivity could literally be a life-saving feature.Do not encourage people who bought top-of-the-line $800 smartwatches less than three years ago to upgrade them for no reason! I've still got a Series 5 (2019!) and I'm only just now considering upgrading this fall.
Or people who want to upgrade from an older device?!But have you no concern for the revenues and shareholders?!
While I also would love actual blood pressure detection, I just genuinely don’t see that as a feature which will be supported. The optical sensors merely estimate blood pressure, it’s not an exact reading. Can it measure Blood Glucose, Blood Pressure (not hypertension detection, instead actual Blood Pressure) and can it record sleep automatically? Then I wouldn’t mind buying it though my AWU2 is just good enough for me with 4G. I do not need 5G etc…in my watch. I like the battery life of my AWU2. Actually, I have Galaxy Watch Ultra as well which takes care of BP, ECG, Sleep Apnea etc….I can wait for another 4 years for my AW upgrade
Sure, and the first thing you’ll complain about if it were to happen is battery life…This is what Apple should do. But that would require me to leave the confines of my house and all the artificial light it delivers me. I’d rather just feed my Apple Watch Vitamin D supplements.I think this year they will add solar to it, since in the WWDC Intro they teased that feature with Craig pressing the solar power button on his Apple Watch Ultra... Would make sense, all the others do it...

Do you know if it's location or App store that your logged into that determines if if the sensor works? I live on the border and many times I switch times from Eastern to Atlantic time even though I'm still in the US and Atlantic time is in Canada.Come to Canada. That works just fine on my watch.
That said, satellite and 5G is not compelling enough for an upgrade.
Any word on them restoring blood/oxygen sensor?

I get 32-38 hours on my AWU2. Battery is at 90% life. How about not having to charge it every 24 hours? Hasn't this occurred to anyone that it is feature users may want?
I like the Samsung approach in this regards, they ask you to calibrate your watch with the certified equipment every 28 days or so, this way both businesses are intact and you also get the convenience. But strangely all certified equipment showing Blood Sugar and Blood Pressure far in excess of uncertified tools/equipment. Not sure whether these numbers are unnecessarily shown higher in the certified medical equipment. While I also would love actual blood pressure detection, I just genuinely don’t see that as a feature which will be supported. The optical sensors merely estimate blood pressure, it’s not an exact reading.
It can estimate fairly accurate levels for *some* dare I say most, but they will refrain from showing actual numbers due to that risk / estimation element.
Plus, just having the detection for stuff like blood pressure or sleep apnea is a massive step in the right direction. Properly managing both of those conditions requires consulting with a doctor / medical professional to determine course of action. Giving people actual numbers may result in people attempting to self manage their health.
It’s a different model number.Do you know if it's location or App store that your logged into that determines if if the sensor works? I live on the border and many times I switch times from Eastern to Atlantic time even though I'm still in the US and Atlantic time is in Canada.
That’s fine. Normalise longer life cycles for products.
If there’s no meaningful update, don’t spin one out for the sake of it.
