It will for sure have better refresh rate to support always on display like on the Series 10. Don't think it will have any new health features.

I got an Apple Watch recently and before buying it I asked some athlete friends of mine & watched a ton of videos and reviews, and what most people have been missing from the AW that keeps them using a competitor is

1. battery life
2. Less reliance on the touch screen while in a workout
2. A better Health app with actual insights into your data, like Whoop does (which is a terrible product btw but the app is more useful).
3. Better support for offline maps and routes.

So mostly software stuff really. If Apple can overcome those things, I know a lot of people would switch from Garmin and others.
I agree with you on most of what you said, but Garmin is head and shoulders about even the AppleWatch Ultra 2. Even with those tweaks you speak of the durability/functionality/usability have a long way to go.

I’m honestly confused at some of the battery health comments. My two year old Apple Watch Ultra still has 100% battery health. I have never had an Apple Watch go below 95% battery health. Likely because I switch out watches, but Apple Watch batteries last for years for me.

From what I can tell, these additions won’t be enough to get me or many others to upgrade.

Looks like I will not be upgrading for the first time and will stick with my black Ti S10 for another year.

Reports like this (a pretty nothing "update" on a 2 year cycle product) make you wonder what is actually being worked on at Apple.

If it doesn’t get the blood pressure monitoring then in all honesty it won’t be worth it. And you may as well get an Ultra 2. I was planning on looking at getting one but ONLY if it gets the blood pressure monitoring. When it costs £800 you bet it will need to have that!

I traded my U1 in on a U2 when they first came out. So Blood Oxygen sensor works and I use it as my levels get low very often. The added color of black was a non-starter for me. The proposed or rumored updates do not mention a blood oxygen sensor so another year goes by and I keep my U2 as the daily watch. Battery is now down to 98%. No big deal.

With the BS factor on tariffs and rates that are all over the place, a U3 could start at $700 with the sky as the limit on the final selling price.

Gurman says therefore it will be false. Probably means it’ll be a bigger upgrade overall.

Are these still locked out in the US from the blood oxygen monitor? I remember that tool from Masimo left.
Yes. However I recall reading that their patents will be expiring soon, but we still don’t have the feature in the USA… 😢

well, if those 2 are the main upgrades - I certainly will NOT upgrade my Ultra 2.
For me, they fall in the "nice to have" category.
And the other features mentioned? meh, I'll take 'em ...

IF Apple does not come out with a new health sensor - AW will go thru a dire year ...
I have an Ultra 1 and the 2 or the 3 arent worth the upgrades. The only thing i might want is the pinch gesture thing but even then i dont care about it that much. Another snooze fest from Apple.

Soon I guess depends on your definition, 2028 actually.
Thanks, it’s good to know it will take 3 more years to be sold again in the USA. I will plan my Apple Watch purchases accordingly…🤮

They’ve plateaued. Cool

Yes, the decline is evident across all devices and the entire software ecosystem. The AVP felt like a last-ditch effort—almost a Hail Mary—and the use of liquid glass seems like an attempt to replicate the experience of one of their least demanded products. Frankly, there doesn’t seem to be anything truly compelling in their pipeline.

Of course, as a publicly traded company, they’re obligated to keep releasing new products. But sometimes, I can’t help but wonder if the people presenting these so-called innovations aren’t quietly cringing behind the scenes.

Need: lighter, thinner + blood, sugar & heart.
Want: 3+ day battery life
Get: bling-bling polish, useless promise + higher price.

I think I'll wait for a blood sugar and blood pressure monitor, before I upgrade my Ultra 2. Ok, I may be waiting a long time but my current one is (touch wood) in perfect working order and is not marked nor scratched. it does all that I want it to do for now, and I have blood pressure and blood sugar monitors separately anyway, which will probably exceed the functionality of any Apple version for some time to come. But hey, we can live in hope!
