Sooooo, much ado about nothing? Sad, my 1st gen’s battery is on its last legs.
My series 4 is still going! I use it as a spare, but it's a shame you can't 'Hot Swap' them. ( for some reason I don't get text messages on the Ultra 2 and other alerts don't happen, as well as the rings not updating from one watch to another. My Ultra 2 only lasts 1.5 days, unfortunately (bring on the new battery types, made with other stuff, not just lithium..maybe Sodium?).

I thought you could?

I feel like I've read about folks who have multiple Apple Watches to help deal with the need for so much charging, especially if one tracks sleep with it.

If they have an Ultra 1, it could be nearing three years old. I've had a S2, S4, S6 and U1 then U2. My batteries on the 6 and U1 in particular began to falter after about a year and a half (I found a discount deal on a U2 with SpO2 and sprung for it because the Ultra was really crumpling, lost 12% in just over a year). There are several reasons why a Watch battery could degrade, but I'll name two—heat (it's generally the device most exposed to the sun) and fast drain/recharge (people exercise with it and the active tracking drains the battery quickly, then they place it on the charger and it recharges quickly). The Watch's battery life is already not-wonderful out of the box, so any degradation seems so much more pronounced than the iPhone, iPad or Mac.
Alright. I just tried to turn on the Always on display which I never did before and that thing drains faster than my mortgage

This is precisely why I have a Garmin Instinct Crossover (has real, normal, watch hands).

Something I love about non smart watches is the ability to glance at the time, often out of the corner of my eye while my wrist is in whatever position it's in, and just "see it".

I think the days of getting the latest (insert apple product here) are over for me, it really is wasteful even if I am selling my old device on eBay to a second user. I picked up an early 2 after the black was launched last year at a good price, I'm ok with being a year or two behind. I'm still using an iPhone 13Pro.

Thanks for the info, but no where does it mention $140 per unit.
It was in an article when this first became a real issue for Apple. I recall it, but feel free to google it if you’re interested.
