What? No idea what that means.

The Explorer face goes from multi-color to all red display.

The point re the phone and cellular connectivity is you ‘have’ to have an iPhone to have an AW.

It is an Apple product, and Apple has always integrated their products within the ecosystem and not for braod interaction outside it. Family sharing allows setup of the watch without someone having their own iPhone.

Once initial setup is complete the cellular function operates independent of the iPhone.

This makes no sense at all. This Ultra low battery life is basically turning all the features off. It would be something new if we could gain 60 hours without turniing features off.
It makes no sense for the guy wearing it to the office everyday who would prefer more battery life without sacrificing function (Me). But for the guy who broke his ankle hiking alone in the middle of nowhere, sacrificing functions to extend the battery could be the difference between life and death.

Don't waste your time waiting around. GET IT!!! it's the best Apple Watch ever. This is coming from someone who is upgrading every single year from Apple Watch S3. It's worth it and you won't be disappointed.

I cannnnnnn't. I burned so much money already this year. A 14 inch Macbook Pro, a Steam Deck, a Quest 2, an Apple Pencil and Logitech Combo Touch, over $350 worth of games during the Steam Summer Sale, several games day one at full price like Persona 5 Royal/Splatoon 3/ Spider-Man Remastered, and this month I got Christmas gifts to buy and a new monitor. Not to mention I'm gonna be taking the Apple IT Certification exam in a couple months.

If I didn't get the Quest 2 I would've, but I needed a new VR headset to replace the WMR headset that I just got sick of as it was just causing issues.

Insane battery life is something like the Garmin Enduro 2, which has 34 days of smartwatch usage, and 150 hrs of dual-band gps, which unlike the AW Ultra is able to cope with an ’ultra’ event aka 100 mile run.
And in true Apple fashion, if you want to really use this as sports watch, you have to ‘download an app’.
And you can’t really call the AW a smartwatch, as it has to be paired with an iPhone to begin with, and it’s cellular capability is dependent on having a ‘sim‘ with a telecommunications company. So if I have an iPhone and either of these watches, I don’t have less iOS smarts.
Honestly, I didn't even hear of a Garmin Watch until Apple Watch Ultra was announced and I discovered it here. I feel like Garmin only offers 1/10 features compare to the Apple Watch Ultra. Does Garmin Watch even get weekly/monthly OS upgrades?

Have they figured out to connect my foot pod to an Apple Watch?

Would love my cycling power meter during riding on my Apple Watch too. What’s the eta for these basic sensors coming to the ultra? Oh never? Damn.
I think they will do it, I’m not too surprised that it wasn’t included at launch either for BT integration or information display. My bet is, it’s coming.

But oddly enough Garmin and Garmin owners keep comparing them to smartwatches
As none of my posts have done that, and from my limited observations, Garmin are not comparing themselves, I assume you refer to its users. In the sweeping statement, I hope you have excluded those who 'watch comparisons' are part of their jobs. There are an awful lot of AW Ultra vs Garmin 'insert watch model', articles and videos, and the response from the watch testers, and the Garmin community has been fierce, this AW Ultra is not 'out of the box' a sports watch, nor with it's pathetic battery life, a Ultra watch. Sadly the fanboi aspect of Apple, leads to those who have tunnel vision around its products. Apple make great products, but don't own all of the spaces within them.

Life is too short. Just buy it and catch up with the finances later. September was a very expensive month for all of us. I'm glad, Apple is not going to release the M2 MacBook Pro. Gives us time to save money. Life is too short. Money comes money goes but precious time doesn't. I think you should totally get it. Treat yourself!

Good luck with your IT Certification exam.

Wait, you take apple marketing seriously at all? You’ve already lost before you even start any argument.
Apple’s marketing has been misleading and deceiving since day 1 and never change in the past few decades. That’s part of how they stay in business.
I don't, that is why I don't own an AW Ultra, and I would like to one day, but not yet. It's half baked.

That's...not a recipe for being financially stable. I don't make enough to warrant doing that lmao.

Good luck with your IT Certification exam.

Gonna be so much better to take than the CompTIA exams. God I hate CompTIA so much. Such a terrible outdated org with overpriced tests that are absolutely horrible to take.

I have another solution... Apple Card, LOL. It makes it easier, haha! Yeah, CompTIA is very old school and outdated.

Garmin trades off battery life for smart watch features. If your primary variable for deciding which watch to buy is battery life, buy a Garmin. If the primary variable is 'smartness,' buy an Apple Watch.
My Watch Ultra is great. If were an avid hiker (i.e. 2-3 day hikes each weekend), I'd buy a Garmin.

A watch you have never heard of? Or a brand you've never heard of? Garmin are the leaders in GPS technology, and if you had an interest in sports like running, cycling, swimming, hiking etc, you would have heard of them. To suggest that the selling point of AW is its software updates, is to highlights its flaws, with buggy beta software, and the need to push them out. You are slightly off the mark when you suggest OS upgrades as weekly/monthly, try yearly. And yes, Garmin do put out updates, and upgrades fairly often, and in those they offer alpha/beta upgrades, as well as the final product. Here is a link to see what companies do what in that regard. http://gpsinformation.net/allory/new.htm

I'm not doing financing. I never do financing for a reason. If I don't need it, I don't need to buy it. The Apple Watch Ultra is a want for me, not a need, as I still have a Series 6 that works.

Yeah, CompTIA is very old school and outdated.

I regret I was talked into trying to get A+. Having to pay upwards of $700 for two awful tests, one of which I failed TWICE by only a few points, and then the tests I took expired so now I have to retake them both. At that point I just said "I quit" which is why I'm doing Apple Certified IT now instead. Much better certification.

Also doing ISC2 as well since unlike CompTIA, THEY'RE DOING FREE COURSES AND TESTS FOR ENTRY LEVELS!

Lol wow a full 60 hours do you mean it? This is light years away from my garmin Fenix which I only charge once every 2 weeks. Apple is still a LOOONG way away. The last thing I need is to worry about charging a watch daily on top of a cell phone. Must be frustrating when you want to track a walk or exercise and be stuck when you realize your watch doesn’t have enough battery life to make it through the activity you want to track 😕

Idk. To get 60 hours battery life one would have to half reduce the Watch to a glorified iPhone 3GS With some health sensors. If someone’s goal is using apple watch with limited power supply for any extended period, maybe don’t use Apple Watch at all? Or get a portable battery system?
I get 70+ without low power mode. I am not a runner or heavily using GPS like some are so I assume my experience is indicative of using it like a normal user of a regular Apple Watch. I wear it 3 full days and 3 full nights of sleep tracking before I need to charge it and usually have about 10% give or take when I do charge it. I will charge it earlier sometimes if we are going to be camping or something going somewhere that I wont have access to my charger. I have also forgotten my phone on a few occasions and my battery life was degraded due to taking/making calls on it but I assume with low power mode I will get a full week or more with it. Not sure how accurate the sleep tracking will be with it in low power mode but if that doesnt take a big hit on accuracy then I will probably use it in low power mode all the time. I think it is worth it to say that I never use the always on display. I dont feel it adds anything to the experience at all.

If you're out for a multi-day hike, you don't really need to measure your heart rate and gps every couple seconds. It's plenty to check it once every couple minutes. And thats what this is for. Not for a 5k run in a park.

It's funny seeing so many having this simple concept whoosh over their heads.

At the end of my day my Ultra is at around 75%-80%. On the charger it quickly charges back to 100%. BUE 🎆

My Series 8 is usually between 66% and 75%. An Ultra may still be in my future. And if I needed extra long battery life for a multi-day outdoor adventure, I'd simply carry a small capacity USB battery pack to charge the watch every few days. Doesn't need to be large. Problem solved.

If someone is in a situation where low power would negatively impact them then they should not use it. If you are hiking in the middle of nowhere you should start with a 100% charge, have a backup power supply to charge available at camp, and decide when to use or disable low power mode.
