Hi, I got the Apple Watch Ultra on launch day and noticed straight out of the box that the edges of the orange button aren‘t „painted“ properly. Could other Apple Watch Ultra owners please check if theirs looks the same? If it doesn‘t I‘ll have to return it. Thanks

If it really upsets you, I'd go in and exchange it for a new unit. Nothing stopping you from doing so, definitely within your 14 days.

I personally don't see much of an issue here. I can see what you're talking about, I just don't think it matters a whole lot.

Normal. I’ve seen 3 and all were similar to your pics (owned 1 before I returned it to go back to the s7). No problem here! Enjoy the watch

Are you sure it’s not just how the light catches it? If I take mine off and rotate it around, based on direction of light the edge of the button either looks totally silver or a different shade of orange.
It‘s silver but depending on the light it‘s more or less visible.

If you are referring to the paint not extending all the way over, that's by design. When you push the button, paint would rub off against the edges of the button hole if it were painted all the way to the edge.

Yeah, I wonder if it's just the way the light catches it, because the surface is actually not smooth but rather bumpy/dimpled.

I just took a look at mine more closely and rotated it around a florescent tube and the color at those edges do change as I rotate the watch. Looks fine to me.

That said, if you really feel there is an issue, go to your local Apple Store (assuming you have one) and see if you can get an exchange. For something this expensive, if you truly believe there is something wrong with it, don't settle. On the other hand, be ready to be told that there is no issue if indeed you're just seeing changes in colour due to the reflection of the surface.

Couple of years ago, I had another indulgent purchase (iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard). When the keyboard arrived, I noticed it did not close flush with the iPad Pro. Somehow, the keyboard was just a little bit "tweaked". It was barely noticeable. But I quickly came to the conclusion that because this purchase is so expensive, I deserve to have a "perfect" model. I requested a refund and the online store employee was very understanding about it.

Thanks for checking on your watch. I also looked at many pictures on Instagram and it seems like almost all of the ultras have it. So I'm fine...

Here’s mine, it’s annoying when light catches it. Imperfect and dimples as others have described her. The arrow is point to a spot catches light at certain angles. So this is normal?

Someone else said it already, but it’s worth repeating: the button isn’t painted. The color is from anodizing. I imagine just like anything with a sharp edge, this is where you’ll see wear first.

I’ve never even pressed the button, so it’s comes pre worn out of the box? I realize it’s anodized. My pic is a fairly extreme macro, but it does catch light.

I’ve never looked that close at my button but in certain lights it does have hint of green on the edges. It’s no big deal to me. Titanium anodizing is a cool process but it doesn’t always result in 100% homogeneous color.

Here’s a pocket knife (that costs more than the AWU, I might add) with a blue/purple anodized finish. I used to throw it in my pocket with my keys. 🤷‍♂️

Interesting point about anodizing titanium as opposed to I assume aluminum.

More Apple product OCD. One sympathizes. (With their workers.)
Apple goes to great lengths marketing beauty and perfection, with extremely profitable results I might add. Apple understands some customers will hold them to it more than others and are prepared to take care of them, no need for pity.

When I was younger I used to be obsessed with having the most perfect iPhone or Mac but if you think about it these don't matter at all, the thing is going to be scratched and marks will start to show after 3 weeks of ownership. Ive got to a point to where I don't give almost 0 💩 about any of these things, even on my car (which costs a lot more then my watch does) and its honestly the most freeing experience ever to just enjoy your things for what they are without worrying about the smallest nonsense. If you find it very difficult to let go of these small imperfections then I think it'd be a good idea to consider Apple Care as they now have unlimited swaps for accidental damage which would likely make you care much less about these

Yep if I look at mine facing the strap end it looks mostly silver depending on the light. It’s not a bright orange anyway, looks more like a metallic color that’s kinda orange, I can’t think of a color name that would be accurate so orange will have to do.
