Apple will not provide Hardware Services or ADH Services in the following circumstances: (a) To protect against normal wear and tear, or to repair cosmetic damage not affecting the functionality of the Covered Equipment; (b) To conduct preventative maintenance; (c) To replace Covered Equipment that is lost or stolen; (d) To repair damage caused by reckless, abusive, willful or intentional conduct, or any use of the Covered Equipment in a manner not normal or intended by Apple;

So is rock climbing covered or not? Cause it's not at all good for the regular Apple Watch.
Supposedly Apple will void the warranty on their products if they detect tobacco use or if it is used in the development of nuclear weapons.

This is why I stopped buying AppleCare. The math just doesn't make sense for it; over the long term you're always going to pay more for AppleCare than you would have in repairs if you take care of your stuff.

Now if you're the sort to drop your stuff constantly, it might make sense.
Insurance on average only makes financial sense to protect a person from a catastrophic loss.

If you can afford to replace a product, insurance is always a bad bet. If insurance was not a good deal for the seller, they would not offer it. Liability insurance is different.

As for myself, I will just assume that the probability of the watch breaking before I get a new one is lower than the cost of watch replacement.
Especially on a tech product like this that you'll probably want to replace in 3 - 5 years.

Apple Watches (which I love) are a consumable. They do not last much more than 5 years, same as smart phones, and Airpods. I’m surprised there is no Apple+ max subscription or lease plan that provides you with the whole shebang for $100-200 per month. Because that’s what it amounts to if you calculate the total cost of ownership…

A mechanical watch is a piece of jewelry that needs maintenance and repair. Take care of it and you can leave it in your will for your grand children…
You’re correct on both points, but left off a third point: You can own more than one watch.

In my small collection, I have:

Breitling SuperOcean Heritage II w/red gold for a nice evening or event

Seiko 5 Automatic (like Pepsi, but I call it my Superman watch) that I use as one of my dailies.

G-Shock G-Steel for dress-down daily.

Nixon quartz that was a best man gift from my brother as another daily.

Apple Watch S6 Nike for another daily.

And soon the Ultra for a Weekender.

I actively use all of those listed. I have a few more just to keep/collect that I don’t wear - like mementos. Out of the list above, only the Apple Watches will get swapped out. The rest I will keep to use, then pass down.

The majority of Apple watch ultra buyers will be deskchair warriors whose greatest risk is banging it against the rails in the bathroom stall at work. The customers that should get AppleCare+ on this watch are the 25% or so who are active like the people in the launch video.

I don’t know what prices you saw of MacBook Pro repairs but I repaired 5 screens in 4 years at the MacBook 12” 2015, 2 or 3 batteries, all for free only with the warranty without AppleCare+ and the last free replacement without the warranty. Each individual screen cost €550, without VAT. Every single battery is 450€, without VAT. In the end Apple paid me, for that Mac, a value of 3500€, VAT excluded, for repairs against a cost of 1000€ (it was a pre-production without even the serials on the cables in promotion). I bought a second MacBook 12” 2019, 880€ new (on promotion) with AppleCare at 150€. Changed 3 screens in 2 years and all the lower case because Apple had scratched it in service, at the moment it cost Apple 2200€ in repair (gold 2018 costs more than silver) and still has 1 year of AppleCare+ that I will use for the battery and a new screen.

I doubt that current MacBook Pros have lower repair costs. Those who buy Apple products without AppleCare are naïve.

5 laptop screen repairs in 4 years? Yikes. You seem like a clumsy person, so yes, I agree, you should buy AppleCare. I'll stick to my credit card extended warranty.

Is it an actual repair or they just swapping it out for a refurbished model?

I'd be surprised if you can actually repair an Apple Watch, particularly a Pro.

I would normally agree, but my daughter's MacBook Air (2020) is on its third screen. The keyboard appears to damage the screen - you can do a search for the massive number of threads that Apple HASN'T whitewashed on apple discussions - and it's super fragile.
Also - i'm retarded and didn't get AC+ on her Mac. My son's has it, thank goodness.....

Why wouldn’t you just get AppleCare at $5? Maybe I missed it. As others stated, this is a normal affordable watch. Rich? I like Omegas and those are $8-15k+, much cheaper than a Rolex.

I’m not going to be Deep diving, but I like the battery life and satellite capability if I’m out camping. I also wanted a bigger dial.

The problem with that argument is that a Rolex lasts forever, and has high resale value.
Apple Watch is worthless after 3-4 years.
(the flaw to my counter-argument is that Omega, Rolex, Breitling, etc. require expensive bi-annual service, so it's actually "$8k-15k" [or less] plus $250-500 each time...)

Hmm, first time I’m considering apple care + price isn’t too bad. Only reason I’m even thinking about it is due to the high price of repair in the event of an accident.

I changed my SS Graphite for the Ultra and took out AC+ this afternoon. For £4.99 a month I think it's with it.

Is it true, that if you purchase it for $99 for the two years and when that expires they offer you to move onto the $4.99 monthly if you want?

dunno may wait until like 50 days in to see if i have any issues lol
Don't break it on day 49! If you do decide to take it out it will start from the day you purchased the watch, not from when you take out the AC+. (Don't know where I read that but I think it's the case)

What are you guys doing re charging the Ultra? Are you letting it run down before charging? Are there any tips for battery management?
