I hope the Ultra is a good indicator that the standard Series 9 will come with flat crystal and more pronounced crown/side button.

I like the new Ultra, just hope it’s a bit smaller and would trickle down to Aluminum case.

still depends on your wrist size a little though. I have fairly small wrists and I don’t want to have an iPod touch hanging on my arm
Yeah, I have a small wrist also and do not mind large smartwatch (or iPod touch as you call it) on my wrist. Large watches on guys wrist are absolutely fine IMO. Tiny little watches on the other hand? Not so much.

triathlete, climber and mountaineer here. The size is the main reason why i will not try it. I dont care that its ugly, the apple watch always was, but i will stick to my series 3 until they make a normal sized one again.

Triathlete myself as well (sprint & Olympic). But if I can't broadcast my heart rate to my Wahoo it's a no-no device.

I'm so excited for this watch, I am need of replacing my S5 and since I am extremely active, this is perfect for my lifestyle. Also, I personally love the rugged look, reminds me of my G-Shock days.

That's normal. You'll probably get a 'shipped' notification on Thursday morning.

Patel is a functionally useless person, so his 'review' being useless is very on brand.

"My e-ink Kindle lasts weeks! Why does anyone need an iPad!?" - you, probably.
Kindle vs iPad for e-books... no competition...

After dropping and breaking the screen on my series three a few years back, this finally has me excited to return to using an apple watch. However, as a cyclist, I am realistic enough to know that this is not a real tool, capable of replacing a garmin (or wahoo) cycling computer, but as a complement to the garmin to do all the Apple stuff it does. (Garmin cycling computers (530) are not really serviceable at phone notifications, with constant phone connection drops, etc.) but, I dont need a device to replace the garmin - it's great at what it does.

The Apple ultra checks off more boxes that the old one's didn't. Brightness for outdoor activities, added battery life for sleep tracking without having to charge overnight, a little better form factor for using it with gloves, etc in cooler temps. I'll now, perhaps, go on rides without a phone in my pocket - (tho, might want a camera on some). Sure I could have been doing that with a regular apple watch, but have been waiting for something a little different, and for better or worse, the feature set/package works for me as a complement to my Garmin for cycling, and as wearable for everyday.

watched a couple reviews yesterday. Ijustines was great but all i could keep thinking about was how big and disproportionate the watch was on her wrist. I wonder if when she runs or does anything jarring if the HR sensors are accurate. I have a feeling there will be alot of people complaining about heart rate accuracy

How can I trust The Verge's opinion on Apple Watch's form & function when their website design is horrible?
That one is very easy. A journalist usually has no say in the design of the publications design, but can very well be able to rate industrial design and function.

I’m so tired of hearing reviewers say, “the most expensive Apple Watch ever”. It’s simply not. Same price as the 45 mm stainless and it’s larger. Hermes watches. Titanium watches for the last however many years. And obviously the edition watches of old.

You can tell some of these people have no idea what they are talking about and just check the apple website or make assumptions.

I got the AW Ultra, because I myself am Ultra, perhaps even Plus Ultra.

And it wasn’t that much more than the 8.

The watch is the only Apple device I upgrade every year, so hell yeah I’m getting the Ultra!

Ah, 3rd party. Yes, then choosing tiles, synching, and making sure you won’t go off your trail. With Garmin they put the entire world on your watch.

But… But… All the memoji avatars on here were assuring me the AW Ultra was going to be the death of Garmin?!

Yep, it’s clunky.

And from another thread on Macrumors, the size difference of the “larger” screen. Some people are going to be disappointed. Some people won’t admit it. 😂

Ha! Yup, that’s one trick pony that Garmin can’t match. No emoji’s on a Garmin. Although newish models do display WhatsApp and emojis now.

My s5 does what I need and more importantly does most of what Watch OS is capable of.

The ultra looks interesting but still seems gen 1 with an older cpu. I’ll wait and see what Apple does next year. Like the pro max, it seems held back.

It is amazing the nonsensical equivalencies people come up with.
Yes. That's what everyone was thinking about your comparison.

Comparing a single-task device like a Garmin with a wrist computer is silly.
