Every Apple Watch could have an action button right now if they just give the option to change the side button into an action button. I never, never, never use mine.

Love everything about the Watch Ultra. For my needs, it'll be a nice upgrade.

For all who have ordered with Sept 23rd delivery dates-any of you still showing Preparing to Ship? I even pulled up UPS app and there is a tracking number that shows but it says no details can be provided at this time. Hoping for a Friday delivery still!

That's normal. You'll probably get a 'shipped' notification on Thursday morning.

I dig how one got 56 hours out of it by doing next to nothing with the watch (except look at alerts/notifications), sure makes this thing worth while.

Patel is a functionally useless person, so his 'review' being useless is very on brand.

As someone who owns a Garmin, while the features on the AWU sound great, the battery life and cost is a joke.
At this price range I would want something dedicated to my needs, not a jack-of-all-trades device.
and the battery .....

You really need to ask yourself is this what I need? Or do you buy just because it is Apple?
It needs a matte black model.

"My e-ink Kindle lasts weeks! Why does anyone need an iPad!?" - you, probably.

I really like MKBHD's take in his conclusion. Just because you're not going to climb Everest any time soon, that doesn't mean you wouldn't benefit from the features the Ultra brings. I really have to scratch my head at the toxic masculine gatekeeping that the Ultra seems to be attracting.

Garmin gave Apple Watch owners what they wanted in a garmin - oled with the epix 2. There is still a very large number of fenix users despite. Without proprietary software to show all the metrics that garmin can on the AW app it’ll be a no go still from the garmin users. Sure there will be the “I’m switching from garmin to AWU” people (to be fair I’ve ordered a ASU also and want to see if the lack of the above convinces me)

Still don't get the "only for extreme users" sentiment. It's a titanium Apple Watch ($50 less than the prior titanium model) with double the battery life, a new button, a larger display, better microphone and speaker, and a new case design, for $50 more than the large stainless steel model. If you are a "normal" Apple Watch user with large enough wrists, there is literally no reason to not go for the Ultra.
'Literally' no reason? A 'normal' Apple Watch user would be able to spend $400 on a series 8 for 98% of the features they'd use everyday, whereas the Ultra is 'literally' double the price. So yes...there's a $400 reason why not to go for the Ultra.

Yup. In other words, don't take to heart the marketing and the narrative Apple uses to couch this product. Look at the product for what it is and consider whether or not you would find it useful, etc.

It absolutely is marketed towards those users. But even Apple knows that they aren’t actually a competitor of a company such as Garmin, who’s been doing this for 20+ years. They aren’t dumb. And they aren’t advertising it as a huge competitor.

Now if Apple was trying to throw shade at them, I could see it being the only focal point, but they aren’t.
I'll be honest, if I were an ultramarathoner, did extended day hikes, etc, I would buy the Garmin. I bought the Apple Watch Ultra because I am invested in the ecosystem, wanted longer battery life, wanted a larger more robust design, and wanted a cellular watch. The fact it has some exclusive features and titanium construction are icing on the cake. If I were to buy a cellular stainless steel Series 8 45mm, I'd be at $750. Considering the extra features and titanium build, with ever so slightly larger display, and much better battery life of the Ultra, it's a good deal when next to the SS Series 8 45mm cellular.

For all the people out there shading the Ultra and wondering why anyone would get one because they are so ugly. I'll give you three reasons: battery life, a bigger screen with an Ultra-only watch face that can tell you almost any info you would want to know, and functions that you can only get on the Ultra. Looks are subjective, so if you don't like it don't buy it, that is why there are so many other combinations of the Series 8 and SE that you can buy. All I know is that if you currently want to order an Ultra from the Apple store you must wait over 5 weeks. That is longer than any other current Apple watch. So it looks like there are many people who are excited about the watch, even if they are a couch potato like me. I can't wait for mine to arrive on Friday. I had the series 0, and the 3 with LTE. I was about to get a nice analog watch because of the Apple watches horrible battery life. The Ultra kept me in the Apple watch game.

I have no idea if YouTube would actually work but I’ll try it now.

You ask Siri about something, and sometimes it gives “open page” and you can view browser. If you say “Apple.com” or “YouTube.com” it will always give option to view the page.

But I just found that YouTube video won’t play. Whomp whomp :C

Have not read far enough in the thread yet, but if nobody mentioned it yet, check out the app “watchtube” that may be what you are looking for.

You see it a lot with cars too - "you don't *need* that". I suspect it's a mix of envy and some strange desire to control what other people do.

Maybe some of us like the looks and bulk. A $100 Casio can do 98% of what my $500 Seiko can do, but I still bought the Seiko.

Will do! Thanks

Can’t imagine watching video on watch would be great for battery but maybe not, haha

Yeah other than the use cases they showed during the presentation, I don't know why anyone would want or need this.

I had thought I should go with one, but better judgement showed up. with my luck, the watch on the charging stand some how trips the siren and the wife flies to the ceiling and I end up sleeping outside with the dog on a regular basis

They need you to pay for an upgrade next year.
Exactly. You already know what one of the improvements at next years watch event will be, "And now, with a 2mm larger screen!!!"

That's why they kept it effectively the same size this year with bigger bezels than the Series 8's screens.

As has been pointed out to you several times in this thread, the screen is bigger. You can go and read the specs of the different screens on each Apple Watch and see for yourself. This is a lot more effective and accurate than eyeballing a few pictures and then espousing your opinion as if it has any bearing on the actual facts.

I'm wondering if the surface is plain Titanium dioxide TiO2 or if there is a protective layer on top. Issue is (same as with anodized aluminium) that either is known to be able to pass the blood brain barrier. Aluminium or TiO2 in the brain is considered not a good thing. A question in that respect via Apple support was never answered for me, googling no avail. I bought the steel model which does not have the issue but would be interested in the Ultra were it to have an extra coating layer to prevent surface particles from shedding-rubbing into the skin and going into the bloodstream.

For anyone who is wondering, according to Apples own specs, this is the overall size difference in the actual screen between the 45mm and the 49mm. Get your ruler out of your desk drawer and look at it. It’s the first notch on your ruler. It may surprise you.

You can decide on your own if that is effectively the same size when it comes to usability.
