I’m blown away by the battery on the Ultra. On a lighter day of usage, with cellular off, I am averaging 20% draining after 12 hours, or 60 hours of battery life. That’s with AoD turned on, multiple notifications, and messing with the watch. Apple is seriously underrating this thing.

Apple Watch Ultra will be a trendy watch.

Who actually fixes these things? That’s what Apple Care+ is for.

Right to repair and the ability to do so is important though. We can't live in a "throw-away society" mindset forever and be gouged by repair costs. However, it's a crazy difficult challenge to build a product that is highly repairable and still be highly durable, and capable.

Someone needs to do a field test with the siren and actually test exactly how many feet it can be heard, I bet it's a lot further than we think and possibly directional and it's sound is unique enough to be overheard from birds and other natural sounds.
Although it does sounds like a killdeer bird that is common to North America, the rest of the world would not be familiar with that sound.
DC Rainmaker already did this, and yes he confirmed it could be heard from quite a distance. The sound also changes to SOS in morse code after a while.

as with an analog watch, i will never try to repair my apple watch, either

Sadly looks like this might be the worst watch yet re: battery replacement. $400/year, then to the landfill. Oh well, I am sticking with my $16 Casio (whose battery is easily replaced using rear case screws), and my Luddite approach to sports/fitness.
Batteries don’t disintegrate when they go through lifecycles. They just max out closer to 80%. I have had phones at 80% battery health for years and my watch has been for 3 years and still works great

Does a 234 mAh larger battery and a 4mm larger screen than the AW8 45mm warrant a price increase of 370$ compared to 429 USD of AW8?
I think you're looking at the Aluminum case and GPS-only. If you compare the Stainless Steal Case and GPS + Cellular, the prices are quite close.

You should be comparing it to the 45mm stainless steel with sapphire glass version which starts at $749 with the cheapest band.

Another year and an other My Tag Heur series 2000 (now 22 years old) is going strong with real sapphire divibgg depth 200 meters, my phone does phone things, im in a wheelchair and cant exercise really with Osteroporosis as all my joints are shot, so I'll stay with a watch that will outlast all of Apples watches probably, and does what I want it to, nothing more than tell the time and look elegant, and not like like its from a shop for deep sea divers who accessorize. Just my take, it's ugly as sin.

That’s iFixit for you.

Now they can sell you some crap tools and some crap parts to make you feel good about doing a bad quality repair yourself!
I call BS, I've extended life for of my Late 2013 MBP twice using those "crappy" tools&parts, compared to Apple it was dirt cheap.

I think this is the wrong take. The larger battery means the watch will experience fewer charge cycles, and less time at those high and low states that lithium batteries don’t like. There is also the better battery management added in recent years.

There is a good chance the Ultra will still perform well in 4 years.
Agreed. Bigger battery always better in the long run because of less cycle over time with the same usage. Annually I might only charge the Ultra 100 times instead of 200 times with the regular Series 8.

It’s the same reason why AirPods and iPhone Minis are disposable, and quickly worn off its battery health compared to Pro Max, or any iPads.

Well you can always hold off a few months and wait for sale?

I know for some $799 can be a hard pill to swallow, but considering the cost of Stainless Steel and Ti Edition from previous Series? Ultra is a much better deal.

True. My AW6 is at 90% health after 2 years. With low power mode I get 30+ hrs. With Ultra I can use as normal and still get 30+ hrs so that I don't need to charge every night either.
