No offense taken. Feel free to disregard.

But by doing so, you'll need to disregard a previous article right here on MacRumors on how Apple is able to do a simultaneous delivery on such a massive scale including the use of "storage warehouses."

https://www.macrumors.com/2013/09/11/how-apple-ships-millions-of-iphones-for-simultaneous-delivery/

I'll be over here waiting for an "oh hey - maybe you actually do know some information about this"

Who owns the warehouses? Not Apple. They use the carriers warehouse space.

I've only been in the logistics business for about 20 years.

Who do you think....
latest

All joking aside, I believe they simply rented storage/shipping warehouses.

I've only been in the logistics business for about 20 years and a consultant for companies like Lenovo, Sony, Crate and Barrel, etc. but hey- I have no clue how things work.

And I've got retired cop friends that do security work for a particular large corporation and have for years. They love new product launches. Lots of overtime.

But why squabble? They'll get to us when they get to us. Just trying to offer some info - it's up to you whether or not you accept my information.

But it doesn't list dates... If you follow the links on the page it jumps back to old iPhone 6/6+ MacRumors pages. I'm sure there are planes flying out right now with Apple products, maybe even watches... But until the release tracking info, we can only guess.

That's my point. The link and this thread provides no information about which planes if any are carrying Apple products.

The only thing that will connect the two is a tracking number with a departure scan from China that matches up with the departure of one of these planes.

It is clearly possible that they are moving watches to local warehouses in all the countries to prepare for a day 1 release next Friday. BUT, no one knows for sure (who is talking and proving they know) until we get tracking information that shows shipment from anywhere else but China.

Someone said these were being assembled in the US, which would mean they wouldn't be flying from China at all.

Since there's no carriers (verizon, att, telus, etc) involved for the  watch. I don't think those planes have the watches. Possible but most likely they are being ship to customers directly from China.

That can't be true, as the in-store units are marked as 'Made in China'

Yes, and if a major new product like the Watch was being assembled in the USA, Apple would be milking it for all the publicity and goodwill they could get out of it. They did it to an extent with the Mac Pro, but that's an exceedingly minor product that most people aren't aware exists.

You guys might want to listen to him. He is the Sausage King of Chicago, after all. :p

But why does it talk about iphones? How do I know it's not an animated gif?

First off, FlightAware is probably the most accurate and reputable flight tracking and flight plan management software out there, just do a quick Google search. I can assure you that it is not a GIF.

It talks about iPhones because the site was launched to gain traffic from all the iPhone 6 hype and they never bothered to remove it. That said, it does track the route that your Apple Watch/iPhone/Mac/Foxconn product (or anything made in eastern China for that matter) will fly. When you receive your tracking number, match up the Departure Scan entry and location with the departure time of the corresponding plane in FlightAware. If there is a flight that matches (or several), that IS your Apple Watch/whatever from eastern china and you can track it to the nearest hub where it will hop planes to the final hub. The issue with this methodology is that Apple always uses a technique called drop shipping to deliver your product. Apple is currently streaming inventory from the factory to UPS hubs stateside. When the time comes to actually "ship" the device, it is already in the US and a worker from UPS fills the order from their distribution facilities inventory (For clarification, it was your watch from the factory, they just pull the watch by serial number and slap a label on it, which is why you can change your shipping address at the last minute). So because the watch is already in the states, tracking it is pretty pointless, but hey, now you know how drop shipping works.

Sorry, I don;t mean to be snippy. I'm in a crabby mood.

I wouldn't call it jumping the gun, more just being hopeful. I Guess we'll a find out together Monday together.

Those flights happen every day and weekly. Once we have tracking info we can connect the dots. Always been fun flight tracking.

No offense but if you really new Apple's business model they don't warehouse much themselves. They drop ship straight from the manufacturer in most cases. Unless it's a custom built machine or the Mac Pro.

This is how a TON of companies operate- why pay for a warehouse when your supplier can take that burden. It's cheaper to pay them to operate your own.

It's also discussed in Jobs by Walter Issacson....

JIT is on of the main reasons for Tim Cook success and becoming the CEO. Apple has perfected it down to a science.
