Does completing a Nike Run on my Nike Apple Watch count towards this? Just curious as to I have a 5K that AM and always use the Nike+ Running App for those runs.

It didn't work properly for me last year. I ran 4.24 miles last Thanksgiving morning and didn't get the badge. Others were reporting that they were getting the badge right away after their workout (most were using the stock AW Workout app). So I started an indoor walk using the AW but didn't reach 5k because I had to go to my in-laws.

By 9pm that night, I still hadn't gotten the badge, so I bit the bullet and got on the treadmill and walked 3.27 miles (to be sure). I got the badge immediately.

As for this year, will 3rd party apps count? Who knows. BTW, last year, the text was the same. Walk, Run or Push using any app that writes to Health (or something like that).

Since the watch calibrates itself from outdoor runs/walks to estimate the distance traveled during indoor run/walks, wouldn't a 5k on a treadmill still earn you this badge?

Treadmill worked for me last year. See above.

I didn't have my apple watch last Thanksgiving, but all of the challenges have worked for me by using the Nike Run club app since I got my watch in Mid-January.

Alright, here's another "unobtainable" badge for not being in America like myself.

Man, so sorry for your loss.

Why apple "forces" us to walk/run as the exercise form for Thanksgiving? I understand that's a tradition to some people, but could we not just earn the badge for just doing any exercise in general?
My question is, Who the hell cares about a stupid badge?

Yippee! Thursday is the first day I get to try walking since I had surgery for breaking my foot and I am going to try to slowly walk a 5k conincidentally!

Seriously, stop whining about it not being available because you're outside the U.S.. If you go to the Apple Watch app on the iPhone -> General -> Language and region, change the region setting to "United States". Ta-daaaa. You'll get the opportunity and the badge will show up in Achievements.

I got the Veteran Day badge. Living in Norway I was happy to get it, but still wondered how I got it. I wanted to check the settings and forgot about it. Now I checked and the region is set to Norway.

Which reminds me of me being in the US last year on Thanksgiving and not receiving the badge even with a 10km walk... I will this year :)

I got the veterans day one as well (I'm in the UK).

Maybe it's just an assumption that people outside the US don't get these, when in fact we do.

You can still walk 5k on Thursday. Earn an American Walking Bird badge for no reason.

That way you too can earn positive affirmation about your self worth from an inanimate object.

Apple today announced that Apple Watch users can earn a special Thanksgiving Day badge

And AGAIN Apple sends me a notification for this crap even though I have notifications turned off. The amount of friggin nag-notices Apple sends is really starting to pi$$ me off.

Slightly OT, but I noticed none of the previous badges I earned are available as stickers in iMessage (I’m using an iPhone X with latest iOS update). Anyone else notice this? I’m referring to all the badges/stickers I’ve earned throughout the past year.

Only the Veterans’ Day sticker is available in iMessage.

I did get a Series 3 watch and maybe previous badges/stickers were wiped out when I upgraded my Watch. But I’ve earned other stickers on the Series 3 that are not showing up.

Edit: maybe only special achievement badges are available as stickers? I had a memory of all achievements (for example, a move goal) being available as stickers, but maybe I am mistaken

i wish those badges would be available everywhere. while we don‘t have a veterans day or celebrate thanksgiving earlier, it would still be nice to earn those badges.

i don't live in US but i get all the badges, you just set your region to America.
i got the badge a few minutes ago, and also got the veterans day badge a few weeks ago

In the spirit of investigation, I went for a walk (about 3.25 miles) at lunchtime. I didn't get the badge, although I have received previous ones.

These things appear fairly random for non US people. I got the national parks and veterans day ones, but it appears not this one.

Not that it actually matters. :)

Apple today announced that Apple Watch users can earn a special Thanksgiving Day badge and accompanying iMessage sticker by completing a walk, run, or wheelchair workout with a distance of at least 5K (3.1 miles) on November 23.

As with the Veterans Day badge, this achievement is only available on devices that have United States set as the region. The distance can be recorded with the Workout app or any third-party app that adds workouts to the Health app.

Apple Watch users can view a history of achievements via the Achievements tab in the Activity app on a paired iPhone.
