Im having the same issue with my wifes apple watch. She rarely wears it and it had been off the charger the last time she wanted to wear it. She put it on the charger and left it there for a couple of hours. When she went to take it off the charger she noticed it would not turn on. She told me it wouldn't work so I tried charging it on my charger. I noticed that the "snake icon" would turn on for 5 seconds and then turn off. Then back on and back off. It does this continually and gets hot. So its clearly taking a charge but will not turn on. I have tried every single trouble shooting suggestion and took it to the apple store. They told me theres nothing they can do about it other than sending to out for repair. They told me it would be $200 to repair it because its outside of its warranty window. Now I see that battery replacement by apple is only $80. What the hell? This watch has hardly been used even the stainless case has Zero scratches.

Just leave it on the charger overnight (after you see that "snake" icon), still cannot turn on?

I had it too - charge for an hour or so. After that hold the power button down till it starts.

Yep, tried that. It will not react to anything.

I won't respond to anything even when I leave it charge for days.

This is my problem as well. I got it for Christmas, wore it for like a month. And then my husband dug it out and wanted to try to wear it but it just sits there blinking occasionally with the snake (and a green lightening bolt). It’s been on the charger for days. I’m going to a city where the Apple store is this weekend I guess I’ll have to take it with me.

Update: the Genius guy took my watch and sent it in (because that location can’t repair) this is “a known issue with the series 1 watch” so it is covered for no charge. I wish the Apple care chat guy would have told me that the location I was going to didn’t repair or I would not have driven 2 hours for that.

I'm having the same issue with mine, I have had it for almost two years, do you know if there a time limit for it being covered for no charge?

I don’t know whether there is a cut off for it... this is what my receipt says: Send out Apple Watch for repair classified under article op1709.

I have the exact same problem you described. Did you find a solution?

Thanks!

I was under the impression that Apple does not do any watch repair in-store (other than maybe a swap for a refurbished one).

This isn’t a doomsday icon for the watch. It means it doesn’t have enough power to turn on yet, which happens if it’s not been used in a while.

Try this:

Make sure your Watch charger cable is not tangle, mine was fix in winding so i straighten up the cable put it on even surface and uses iPad 12W USB Power Adapter.

And viola, after an overnight charging I woke up with a working Apple Watch

Finally someone who knows what they are talking about. I had the same experience with my wife's watch that was only 2 years old. None of the advice on this page works. Apple store was no help. I was also told $200. I didn't realize when I spent $250 that I was buying a disposable watch. Will never buy another Apple Watch.

I talked to apple over the phone several times, they talked to their engineers. I got call back and they told me that they know if this issue. "There are a lot of people that are having the same problem". Then I was told that they do not have a fix as of right now...

I decided to again take it into my local apple store. I talked directly to a manager, explained the whole thing to her. I told her that I was willing to send it in to have the $80 out of warranty battery replacement done and she again told me that because its still paired with an iPhone (that we no longer have) there was no way to unpair it without the watch powering it up. So they could not even send it in for repair. I buy a lot of apple products and told her that if they could not even allow me to pay for a repair because of their flawed system that I would no longer be buying products from them especially apple watches. She definitely took me seriously and tried every way around the system she could think of to at least get them sent out for repair. Finally after an hour she gave up. She went above and beyond anything I thought she would be willing to do.

One of the ways to get around the system was to provide a sales receipt for the watch. Unfortunately I bought the watch second hand from someone on craigslist more than a year before so I did not have proof of purchase from a retailer. But I think if you have proof of purchase from any retailer, the apple store manger could help you.

Hope this helps.
