We think Flock cameras are bad, wait until they subpoena your watch to get a full report of your entire day for the last year.
This is not far-fetched at all. I read somewhere (sorry, don't remember the source), that data from the AW gyroscope and accelerometer has been used as evidence in criminal trials.

Interesting. Don't know how useful it will be. Think Apple will be spending significant portion of the event highlighting these new AI features for the watch.

Does anyone here have a device that currently does this? I’m having trouble understanding why this is useful or helpful. I know what I did today, I was there 🙂
Given the inclusion of activities that go beyond the gym-based notion of exercise to incorporate other activities that range in physical activities, posture, and stress, this is a welcome addition to the Health app if true. As for AI fears, justified if the data was sent to nefarious corps like Alphabet, Meta, et al., or other out-of-control AI corporations, but done on device with anonymity front and center, then this is a welcome and exciting addition. Until we have a constitution that protects our privacy from the invisible hand of theft, we do need Apple at least to triple down on privacy and avoid the monetization of our data.

If you're keeping track of what and when someone is eating/drinking, Apple can make active suggestions for postprandial glycemic management. There's a small window where you can lower peak sugar after eating without a hormone (insulin) response. Searching or asking AIs about postprandial exercise science will show the new research on this topic. Many YouTubers have excellent presentations on this topic.

You don't need any device to tell you what to do metabolically, but it could certainly be helpful.

I know Apple is under a lot of pressure to compete with all the AI devices that are coming up, but a watch that records everything all day, without consent from the people around you… I don’t like this at all, not one bit, and i don’t care how much privacy precautions they are taking.

Are they able to do this accurately? If so, it could be useful. If not 100% accurate, then it is not useful. Just like the Sleep function, one night I woke up multiple times and had problems in falling asleep. On the next day, my Watch 11 reported that I got a very high excellent sleep score! Seeing that and also the announcement from Apple killing many watches, I immediately returned the watch.

Who needs to know how much of their day was "applying lotions"?? Absolute AI nonsense that we don't need and is burning up the planet.

Imagine a spouse checking the device for evidences of adultery.

If Apple adds a feature to evaluate and record performance during s*x, some people may be interested. They may even post on SNS about their endurance.

Oh it absolutely has. Anything with GPS, wifi, Bluetooth etc that can be used to establish a time and place.

Ah yes and the motion sensors to establish violent motion and speed. Fitness sensors in general have been used to determine when hearts have stopped on many occasions.

Things like food shopping or hardware shopping means that gps data is shared and then matched to a location. I'm sure Apple will play the "none of this data is shared" card but it's still scary.

Also, how can a watch differentiate between baking, preparing a meal and making drinks?

Leaker "pdfu" today shared additional code-level details about the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4's new day summary feature, offering a clearer picture of what the AI tool will actually track.

In a new post on X, pdfu said that the summaries generated by the feature, referred to in code as "Ambient Sensing," include fields for time and date, location, meal information, and the people present along with their relationship to the user.

The leaker also listed dozens of activity categories the underlying code supports, covering everything from meal prep and household chores to workouts, commuting, shopping, and screen time, alongside a catch-all "Unknown" category. The full list of activity categories is as follows:

The post builds on a report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who said the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 would ship with a feature that analyzes a user's day, including conversations they've had, and provides a summary of what took place. Gurman noted the system apparently does not record or store audio and cannot produce a transcript to preserve privacy, and it is unclear how exactly it works.

The Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 are expected to be announced later today alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the first foldable iPhone, dubbed the "iPhone Duo."

The homeostasis of metabolism is incredibly complicated. Specifically, exercising (gently -- zone 2) after eating is far more valuable than gentle exercise at other times. The question Apple could quantify today: what do formal studies show is the time-value of engaging your skeletal muscles soon after eating? What is the value of nagging people to start moving in that window?

Would some benefit from having the Apple Watch insist they participate in postprandial exercise? Absolutely! Is it necessary to have some smart device do that monitoring to have you move after eating? Absolutely not! Both things are true.

To me, the more interesting question is why my health care team never recommended this activity. Glycation is a bad thing; we should minimize the amount of sugary compounds that we chemically bond to our blood, arterial walls, collagen, etc. I am convinced that the HbA1c is the most valuable blood test we should be paying attention to for our overall health. My Doc never said that to me!

Apple is able to hire doctors who will talk about this. The three fitness circles have had an impact on health, and Apple will make more money if they can have their fitness circles be more effective. OTOH, we can simply take advantage of their nagware without actually using it ourselves. We can simply think about this stuff and come to our own conclusions.

I've personally been practicing postprandial exercise for about a month. I had built a strong base of work on the Concept2 Rower and Ski machines for a much longer time, that has been helpful. OTOH, that small amount of exercise in the window after eating has made a huge difference. I'm now wearing the same pants size I did in high school. I am happy, and I won't go back. YMMV. I suggest you try these metabolic hacks, and consider any Apple monitoring software as completely optional.

HTH.

Polar also track all activities during the day. Imagine doing the garden, cleaning the house, it all ads up as a “activity”, meaning burning more calories then sitting.
