The Apple Watch was billed as having a Sapphire crystal. Thank you for confirming the obvious -- apple indeed will ship with a sapphire crystal. If you have any more questions, like if there crown really rotates, we have a 15 minute video on a very complete and exhausting scientific battery of test to determine if the crown really rotates or not. Stay tuned.:D

Actually... (free maths lesson):
Tissot =/= Apple Watch.

They are about as similar as a Porsche and a Peterbilt....
To continue with that metaphor- while you may not want to take a girl out on a date in a Peterbilt... you may not want to try to ship 1,000 Christmas trees cross country in a Porsche either.
Due to the dissimilar use cases it would be idiotic to ascribe a "better" moniker to either.
And so it is with Tissot & Apple Watch.
One will look better & last decades, the other will track your health & make your life easier. There is not a clear comparison to draw.

So I'm curious about this. Why would they be an assumption Apple's sapphire isn't as good as a traditional watch? Are there different types of sapphire? Are some better than others?

I ordered it a few minutes after online launch and I still don't know when I'm going to get it

You don't????!!!!!!
That's CRAZY. Every single other person that ordered one got a date range. Mine is May 13-27. I know I'm getting it then. You genuinely have a good reason to be mad, as you are the only person that was completely left in the dark with regards to your order. I'd email Tim immediately, were I you.

The Tissot watch says "sapphire crystal" on the back, so we know for a fact that it's a real, pure sapphire crystal.

The Apple Watch says "sapphire crystal" on the back, so we must test it to make sure Apple isn't lying.

Ignore everything he says about how the diamond tester works. They measure thermal conductivity, they have nothing to do with electrical conductivity.

What in the hell is the point of this? In case Apple lied and is selling fake sapphire?
Can we please have a test to show that the camera in my iPhone 6 is indeed a camera, and not a baked potato?

To me this review was all over the place in terms of what he says, what is accurate, and what he left out because he didn't know.

No kidding!

How about testing something that we don't know yet. Like:

- What's the battery size in the 42mm????

- How long does a watch go if you put it into Reserve Mode at 100% battery?

- Is there a way to fool the wrist detection and move the watch to another arm?

- Heck, what if you just put a piece of white tape (or a band-aid) under the watch? Does this allow the owner to wear it looser?

- I.e. Is the detection looking for a pulse? And if so, is that only every ten minutes?

- etc

How about you perform these tests..?

You may complain, but I won't put a watch on my wrist until its sapphire display is Macrumors-certified to be genuine sapphire :)

I would have gone with the stainless steel model for the sapphire display if only there were more color options. I went with sport because I liked the space gray color better. The space black stainless steel was nice, but it only comes with the link bracelet putting the minimum price at a thousand dollars. Eff that.

Exactly the same as me!

I even ended up buying a black leather band for mine at an extra £140 and its still a hell of a lot cheaper

This "test" sounds pointless to me. Did anyone seriously expect Apple was going to use something other than sapphire and market it as sapphire?

You say pointless, but its another guaranteed half a million hits for Unbox Theory and his wallet.

Wait, are we trusting Unboxy Therapy now? I thought all his videos should be taken with a grain of salt. I thought for sure last week he was Macrumors' enemy #1

I don't know about you guys, but I'm getting real tired about hearing about the Apple watch.

Especially since I ordered it a few minutes after online launch and I still don't know when I'm going to get it

hello! luckily for you, i have a terrific solution to your problem -- stop coming to apple sites that feature new products during launch, such as MR! then you wont be bothered any more. 100% guaranteed success rate. try it out!

I also feel like the site is becoming "all watch, all the time", but if it turns out to be the biggest seller in Apple's fleet outside the iPhone... dang.

I'm glad that he tested it using a proper testing device instead of just subjecting the watch to sandpaper.
