Speck PixelSkin May Look Ugly To You, But They Super Protect The iPhone

Pixelskin looks ugly.. lol.
Speck PixelSkin May Look Ugly To You, But They Super Protect The iPhone. :) You can drop it from way above any surface and the phone will survive in tact. I don't mind the way they look because I know their form has outstanding function.

There's A White Speck PixelSkin But . . .

The reality is that anyone in this forum holding out for a white one will treat it like the holy grail and cover it in body armor, anyway. So here's an idea: Get a black one and put a white casing on it…TA-DAH!
That sounds like a great idea until you notice that the top of the front where the camera and phone ear speaker that is always exposed is Black instead of White which is exactly why we are waiting for White. All the rest of my White iPhone will be hidden in a protective Speck PixelSkin. So your suggestion fails the look test.

Now factor in alcohol. Take a bottle a week and 1-2 bar trips a week/weekend. That's a range of about 7000 to 10000 a year.

I buy a reasonable bottle of wine, probably once a week, and I have a trip to the bar maybe once or twice after work for a couple of beers with my colleagues. I spend nowhere near what you're suggesting is a reasonable annual amount on alcohol.

no there is glass over it

The discoloration was suggested by some to be due to the heating/cooling cycle that comes with use, not to exposure to air. If that were the case, its being covered in plastic would make no difference.

Close - it is there to keep you from "face dialing".

And to conserve battery power, as the poster to whom you are responding said. It performs double duty.

The Really Big Question Not Answered Today Is: When Can We Order One?

When they say second half, they really mean end of July. Be prepared for this for all of you waiting on them ;)
The Really Big Question Not Answered Today Is: When Can We Order One?

I don't care as much about when they will ship as I do about when we can place an order for one. I hope it's the first week in July if not sooner. I guess we have to get through the first million or so authorizations and setups from AT&T which will hopefully be over by the end of next week which is also the beginning of July - worst case after the 4th holiday. So we need one more press release from Apple PR saying when they're going to add White to the Color-Size window of their new very cool Apple Store App.

I pre ordered a white one from Best Buy and they called me today saying they will not have whites. I knew this already. But they asked me if I wanted to hold out for the white one. Of course I said yes, and then asked them if my pre order will still hold for the white one. She said yes! So I'll be able to walk in and be handed a white iphone 4 when they come in no questions asked. :D

This is great news, as Apple in the past has been a discriminator guilty of discriminating against the color black, by charging a monetary premium for that particular color on certain devices.

It's about time that they show equal treatment to the color white. Unfortunately, this is only a slight delay, and in a fair world, the white iPhone would cost more than the Black iPhone.

White models of Apple's new iPhone 4 have proven more challenging to manufacture than expected...

How long after the release will we see "OMG White iPhone with hairline cracks" or "WTF my white iPhone is yellowing"

300 dollars breaks the bank? Holy CATS you're walking on financial thin ice sir.

Better not get into any problems in life - hell - I can't think of one life-emergency that is 300.00. You usually need 1 or 2 more zeros.

My point is your judgment of someone regarding an innocuous comment about being fiscally responsible irritates me so much that my joy of learning a timeline for the white iPhones status has been cut short.

On that note, I prefer the white because it looks like something crisp and clean. A sailboat or piece of seaglass.

...in case you haven't realized, it took Apple 4 GENERATIONS of the iPhone to allow WALLPAPER SWITCHING (a feature which can even be done in every version of Windows, super old versions of Linux using GUI, and pretty much every other OS of the last decade)....
/rant =)

umm...didn't apple have a reason for this? That is, the reason wallpaper switching isn't available on the 3g?

What's Challenging About White?

I can't believe Apple would feed the public BS about white plastic being more difficult to slap onto a phone than black plastic. Gimme a break...

I wonder if the white was prone to burn marks. My 3Gs heats up quite a bit and my iSkin Solo case which is somewhat translucent shows burn marks. The plastic of the phone itself is not discolored, which makes me think it might be possible that the glass that lays on top of the white in the iPhone 4 may have had a similar reaction.

And to conserve battery power, as the poster to whom you are responding said. It performs double duty.

The primary reason for it is the "face dialing" issue. Battery life savings are just an easily marketable side effect.

Should I get black or white?
That's easy. Do you want everyone to know that you actually have the latest and greatest (iPhone 4) model? Get the white one. Even if you put it in a case it won't completely cover the front, as this is the first time they've brought the color white all the way around to the front face.

Otherwise, you just may be mistaken for a 1st, 2nd or 3rd gen. iPhone owner. You don't want THAT now, do you?;)

Why the White iPhone 4 is Difficult to Manufacture...

So I discovered a plausible explanation for the delay!

The white, which is screenprinted onto the glass, doesn't regularly generate a perfect white. Apple sets really high standards for its products, so the white ones that aren't white enough are rejected. Simple as that. It's taking them forever just to make white enough glass.

It certainly sounds plausible and is very much like Apple.

Or maybe Apple just knows they sell more black, so go ahead and sell a ton of them and then have a second launch later on and sell more huge numbers then, too.

Has anyone heard of any locations selling white today? I know some Rumors were going around about the possibility even after Apple's announcement. If the reasoning above for the delay is true, there could be a small quantity that passed the qualifications and made it out into retail.
