Oh please...

Justifying spending money when you have none. Uh huh

I'm not justifying. I don't know this person.

I'm talking about this person being described who is not a member here and not able to defend herself. Maybe she's proud and does not want anyone to know that her family bought her a phone or something. I figure not assuming I understand people's finances is always the best bet.

Sticking to managing my own money and nobody else's seems prudent.

It was $300 down. She gave the 6s Plus (64GB) to her son who had a 16GB 6.

She has an iMac for internet and is using that. I'm definitely not trying to spend her money... just looking out for her and I don't think upgrading with a limited amount of cash on hand while you are unemployed is the brightest decision, but that's just me.

:)

Well, I cannot say as I'd do it, but maybe she's got a line on a job and figures she'll be employed soon. Maybe she's in denial about her current circumstances... maybe she's got more money stashed than she's letting on. People sometimes do hide stuff like that.

You never know. ;)

What "boost while job hunting" could be attained with an 8 that couldn't with a 6S?

A fancy portrait with a svelte background??? A trutone screen to make sitting in offices while waiting for an interview more visually appealing? Or maybe it's that glass back? You know, the one that when she drops it (because I bet she does... just saying), will have to be fixed too (because can you imagine walking around with a shattered back iPhone 8??? what would people think?!?).

It's just sad. By trying to look cool and trendy they actually look more pathetic. If a hiring manager (for the level of work I'm sure she's applying for, which may be presumptive of me, but I still bet its true) sees her with a brand new iPhone 8 it may actually do more damage than good if they know she's between jobs. Fair or not, if someone that's out of work has a pure luxury item (one that was just released, no less), it says something about them. Maybe it was a gift from a loved one, or replaced a hopelessly broken phone, but odds are they're just another member of the "gotta have it right now, and I'll figure out the rest later" crowd.

Not that I mind (beyond it being sad). It's that same mindset that will make the X $3000+ on launch day for scalpers like me =P.

It’s too bad the X will probably be the best selling iPhone they’ve ever had.

Good luck explaining this logic to the 12 million isheep that will scoop up all 12 million phones within the first 60 seconds of preorder launch. And then the next batch of 10 million isheep*isheep (isheep squared) that will gobble them up at 2x-3x the price on ebay, CL, swappa etc.

If anything, Apple will charge more year for the phones to please the isheep!

I just saw the latest PocketnowDaily and they say the ipX bezel-less display is rumored to come to the standard models next year.

No word of course, if OLED will still be exclusive to the ipX in 2018.

But as I said on an earlier thread, I think OLED won't reach the 4.7" model until 2019 if supplies are constrained. (Man, I will have to hang onto this 6s for that long! Good thing I'm patient. And the 6s has staying power.)

I remember the 5s release when people would hang out in the starbucks across the street from the Apple store and get up and go in the store when the UPS and Fedex trucks would pull up.

People really need to stop spewing marketing buzzwords and use some critical thinking skills. Its not edge to edge at all, that notch alone makes it not edge to edge.
lol look we get it some of you don't like the notch but I do find it funny that the haters all spew the same stuff but when the people who are on board say the same things they "lack critical thinking skills"

It's just funny, and kind of sad.

Can you elaborate on what you define as "Bad sales?" Genuinely curious what makes you think Apple will Lower the price of the iPhone X and when do you Propose they do this?

Apple has done it before. They lowered the first (I think it was the first) iPhone from $599 to just $399.

50 million people will be lined up to get the X. Next year the X Plus will be $200 more than the X. Prices don't go down. Save your money.....

Tim Cook's Apple does not recognise price decreases. Only frivolous, poorly justified price increases.

People get down while job hunting. I don't know that she paid for it herself. Maybe she acted like she did, but it was really a gift from a relative. People don't always like to tell others every last bit of their business.

Maybe she made a very stupid financial error. Maybe she's pretty sure she'll get an offer and she's planning to return the phone if she does not. So many things... you just never know because other people's finances are nobody else's business.

If she truly could not afford it, she would not be the first (nor the last) person to splurge at a bad time. ;)

I forget. Were people waiting at 12:01AM to pre-order the original iPhone, or were sales slowing down when they reduced the price?

I don't think for a second that Apple wouldn't lower the price of the X if it didn't sell well. Luckily that's not going to be an issue. Even if the production yields pick up (I believe they will) it's still shaping up to be a monster cluster on the 27th.

My prediction: We will all get "ranges" similar to the watch launch. 11/3-11/20 or something like that. Then it will quickly slip to 11/20-12/24 or worse as those initial batches get gobbled up in seconds.

It's not like Apple is sitting on millions of these things and hoping they sell out. It's not a matter of IF they do, it's just a matter of how fast.

But sure, if people suddenly all got hypnotized and brainwashed at 11:59 on the 26th and no one orders the X, it COULD see a price reduction. Just like I could marry Anne Hathaway. It COULD happen, it's just not GOING to

Or, maybe some people just like iPhones and buy what they want and aren't any more sheep than you are.

How incredibly rude.

Apple will sell out of the 30 units they've made, claim a huge success and use it to justify a £1000 base price next year. This is Tim Cook's Apple, people, and y'all keep justifying it and apologising for their cr*p.

There were long lines to buy the first iPhone. That said, the store near me didn't sell out and I walked in around 7pm the night of launch to see the phone, found out they had some, and bought it.

They lowered that price because this was a new product for them, subsidies, purchase plans, etc did not exist, and they wanted to reach more people with a breakthrough product. This is a mature product now, and I agree with you that it's highly unlikely that this won't sell well or that they'll reduce the price.

All that said, if you and Anne do happen, I wish you kids the best. :D

I think "justifying" is a strong word. I think that if people want to buy something, it's a bit sanctimonious to tell them they should not want to buy it or should not be willing to pay whatever it costs.

I don't think a BMW is worth what people pay for it, but that doesn't mean I think that people who choose to buy their flagship automobiles are justifying anything or putting up with crap.

BMW puts a product on the market. People either buy it or they don't and BMW discounts it or discontinues it.

Free market capitalism.

In a sideways way you're actually right. The production yields are likely scary, and even though they will improve before launch, a lot of the problem is with the "new" stuff like the dot projector and OLED screen, so who knows how many they were hoping to be able to produce even at "full" capacity.

I also sorta believe that Apple underestimated demand because of the way they priced the X. They likely thought it would mute the demand a bit by pricing it that high (I still say low, but whatever...), but that would also require believing they are blind to the lengths people go to have the "latest and greatest" iPhone. I also tend to think Apple thought the 8 would sell better/have more demand, and are probably pooping their pants right now (as they are already sitting on less X supply than they thought they needed when expectations were LOWER).

They really thought a lot of people like us were going to be happy with the 8. Yikes!

Going to be a bloodbath on the 27th. Great investments though ;)

I don't think apple will ever lower the price but will offer alternatives in 2018 at better prices.
LCD iPhone X at a Lower price, I would be down for that.

Same with Mercedes S class....if we don't buy it...they will lower the price??
haha Maybach much, no one bought it they were discounting it pretty heavily. In the end Mercedes ended up scrapping the brand all together.

Spot on Travis. Spot on.

Ironic that the congressmen that had the gall last year to suggest people prioritize health care over their new iPhone's got lambasted for it. He was right, but the idea that the poor wouldn't be able to have luxury items (like the people who can actually afford it) is offensive to a lot of people.

It's a sad, sad world we live in, but that's not going to change anytime soon. All we can do is gaze in wonder at the food stamp recipient that somehow has an iPhone 8+ (like I saw today, at Fry's, buying groceries.... I wish I was making it up). Why do I get the feeling that if it came down to feeding her family or getting an 8+, it would be an easy decision? Sure, it's a free country, but come ON...

But that's what happens when we live in a society that destroys someone for having the audacity to make a statement on personal responsibility. It emboldens and justifies people just like her. Can anyone make a non-politicized argument that people should be buying an iPhone while on food stamps? Let alone an 8+???

A bit of topic, but how did you know they were a food stamp recipient? I would have no clue without asking them.
