Hey Siri, does Jeff Bezos have a giant member?

I'm sorry, I don't have access to that information.

SHUT UP, Alexa!

My wife and I literally tell Alexa to shut up on a nightly basis. I could tell Siri to shut up, but all I would get would be "I found this on the web for "shut up" have a look"....

What in the world are people talking to Siri about that they would be so concerned about transcripts?!
Just a guess, but the concern is if I opt-out I am stating I don't want my Siri interaction to be a part of your process. Yet Apple seems to be saying well, we're going to use your recording anyway... we'll just transcribe it instead of listening to it. ;)

The customer's reasons for not wanting to participate are their own. It doesn't matter what those reasons are. They're private.:D

I’m sure you will get criticism on this site for your comment, but I totally agree with you. Like Apple Maps, I repeatedly tried using Siri early in its lifespan, and both were inferior to other options. I just don’t use either anymore. Every now and then I try to make a reminder using Siri on my Apple Watch, half the time waiting for it to “tap me when it’s ready.” Swing and a miss.

Agree. Apple Maps is still very precarious, just yesterday I tried to use it at 1:00 p.m. and the recommended route estimated I would arrive at 10:30 p.m to my destination... Of course that was wrong, Google Maps had it right and I got there in 50 minutes.

Why could Google Maps do it and not Apple Maps? And this was in Austin, one of the cities where the new Maps rolled out recently and it is supposed to be surveyed by Apple's own team.

They're not listening to your recordings if you're opted-out, they're reading text that a computer created from the recording.
The computer doesn't do a very good job if the speaker has a heavy accent. Just the other day, I was using a dictation software and read the transcript afterwards. Total gibberish.

The most humorous portion was a string of number I dictated that turned out borderline NSFW. It read, "sex sex sex free sex tonight" I remember saying, "6, 6, 6, 3, 6, 2, 9."

How do you own an Apple Watch and not use Siri? It would have about half the capability without it.
Like I said, I try to use it, and I spend half the time waiting for it to be ready--"I'll tap you when I'm ready." Usually I stand there waiting for Siri to be ready, and the watch face times out, and nothing ever happens. This scenario occurs less on my series 4 compared to 2, but still happens.

Good. Maybe someone there will finally feel my pain when it takes me eight tries to get Siri to understand "text [my wife] that I fed the cat before I left for work and she went back out."

I report errors in Apple Maps, and when they don't respond after reporting the same spot a couple of times, I ask them to check Google maps for the correct route!

Curious who here actually believes Siri doesn't listen if you don't activate it? Apple tries to make us feel they are more reliable on privacy than the others, but are they really?

Perhaps the Apple maps team are too busy listening to Siri recordings and draining new Apple Watch bands and iPhone cases?

Isn't this a bit like Hiring a secretary, not saying anything when they are in the room, or letting them know stuff, and then complaining when they are no good at answering questions you have?

Are you referring to accidental activations or when Siri is quiesced. I dont believe Siri is listening until I say hey Siri or it thinks I said hey Siri.

Unfortunately, without a real-world data set, it's hard for them to understand where Siri is failing and thus make improvements to the software. If you use Siri, and want it to improve, you have to give it some amount of data.

I personally don't use voice features on any device, because of the potential for creepy misuse of my data (which the recent revelations about Siri, Alexa, Google Assistant et al have reinforced) but I do get why Apple need this.

It's not that I have anything to hide. It's that I have nothing I want others to see.

it was recently discovered that Apple hired contractors to listen to an allegedly small percentage of anonymized Siri recordings

You missed an opportunity to use the word "allegedly", MacRumors; I fixed it for you.

There is always the nuclear option. Turn off Siri and Dictation.

That's pretty much what I do. Siri's basically useless and most of the time it was being triggered by accident so I just disable it now on all my devices.

Ok here is how Apple responded. Now lets discuss amazon, google and Samsung's Bixby

How about they hire people from all around the world to record different types of accents.

What happens on your phone stays on your phone except the forced transcription of Siri recordings. ;)

accept it..they are not different. from now on, when batting for Apple no point in making 'Privacy' as main point. Its an illusion until now.

they are not drumming about 'Whats in phone stays in phone'.

I don't recall the last time I used Siri for anything

I use Siri almost everyday, but only for these three things:

1) What is the temperature/weather?
2) Set the alarm for ...
I find this quicker than unlocking phone and opening the appropriate app. I can also do this lying in the bed without reaching for the phone. Siri never fails.

3) What time is it?
I use this when I am in a hurry, but need to use my hands for other things, i.e tying my shoes when I'm late to a meeting.

I like to use Siri to play a particular song, but it fails too often, so it is usually easier to type it in. When it works, it is great though.

But Apple Maps is way superior to google now.
