You can report them using apples feedback service, they usually send out a "how did we do" email to you after your visit, they did every time for me so far...

I reported a guy who was incredibly snotty to me when I brought my MBP in, he accused me of jamming a screw driver in my CD, then proceeded to completely ignore me and mark the "damage" down as "user caused damage", I filed a complaint about him, when I went in again, I mentioned him to the person serving me, turns out he was fired, he'd received several complaints prior.

So yeah, sometimes, moaning away helps :D

http://www.apple.com/retail/feedback/ That link might help you, but I think that's more for purchases, rather than support service feedback.

You could always ring Apple if it really bothered you and ask if there's a phone number you can call to lodge a complaint or a weblink they provide.

Either call AppleCare, or find one of the "genius" bar members who actually can live up to that title.

I've got these same cracks on the lower case by where the display closes and they've told me it's not covered which is a load of **** because other people have had this fixed.

As others have said, some geniuses are just *******s and don't do anything to help the costumer.

Update: Called Apple are on Sept 2. Received box on Sept 3 after work. Packed and mailed it out Sept 4 in the evening. Tennessee Apple location receives it Tuesday, Sept 8 in the morning. I checked during lunchtime and the repair is completed. It is pending shipment now. Looks like they're pretty quick.

I found out I was dealing with just an assistant manager. I was given the name of the store manager and lead Genius. I will send a letter to that store this week.

mine has this EXACT same problem but it doesent bother me really.....

good to hear you got the issue resolved though

I have just sent mine in for repair. However, they have said that the bottom case AND case bit where the hinge are are both not covered....Can anyone confirm this for me? Has anyone been able to get anything other than the top case replaced? It's quite annoying, as I need this laptop for college and if those cracks get worse i'll be in trouble....

This problem is more complicated than I thought, I rang apple and they said no the bottom case and hinge arnt covered....but also that the repair centre I took my MacBook to shouldn't have referred me back to apple, they should have sent pictures of the cracks to be examined.

I'm not really sure what to do now, as I need the laptop for college next week but don't want the cracks getting worse....

I got my macbook back yesterday. I received all new casing, outer top case (with apple logo), inner display bezel, inner top case (with keyboard/trackpad), and bottom casing. I still have more than a year of apple care left. From my experience, call apple care again and again until you get someone that recognizes the problem.

Jamie0003, Do you have applecare?

I had mine replaced Aug 20th at a Apple Certified Dealer. I did have to call Applecare for the bottom piece that was cracked much like yours and they said no problem.

Awesome, glad everything worked out for you!!

I found this part funny, albeit at your expense. You experienced "assistant manager syndrome" first hand =\

This is cosmetic damage, they used to cover it, but not anymore as far as i know. I have the exact same thing actually! I have never dropped mine or anything. Magnetic latch is very flawed and so are the non rubber stoppers, or w/e they are called beside the camera on the screen. They cause a lot of damage. On top of that, the platic is wiered, i still cant understand where the cracks on the bottom of casing, bescide the fan come from, it makes no sense to me!

I had a crack on my late '06 Macbook near yours in the first picture, and the piece eventually just chipped off. My fan was having issues at the same time, causing a knocking sound and only running about ~2k RPMs max, so I had it sent in to AppleCare for that reason. I didn't even mention the cracks to be replaced, and I got the fan fixed and a new case as well. I was pleasantly surprised; thankfully I haven't had the issue since then.

Edit: I had it sent in for repairs in December of '07, so it was quite a while ago.

I think what we're starting seeing here is Apple > Apple Retail for customer service issues.

The retail stores are starting to get a reputation (justified or not) for being customer unfriendly and apathetic. Maybe this affects all retail stores and not just Apple, but I've come to the conclusion that the larger/larger Apple stores are generally more customer friendly and focused than the small/smaller stores.

Thoughts?

Same thing happened to me. Emailed sjobs with a very firm letter. Ended up getting an alu MacBook out of warranty.

Not saying this will happen to you (nor that it should -- this was one of many recurring issues I had) but this IS an issue that has been experienced on a wide scale and should be fixed. Try emailing sjobs.

Also, trying to pass off cosmetic damage as inconsequential, from a brand with so much focus on its physical image, is ridiculous.

get a virus. then take it to them and tell them that your computer got a virus, over heated and cracked ur plastic stuff. oh and install smc fan control, and say it said the temperature got to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. lol and say that ur fans were spinning at around 10,600 rpm. hopefully this will work. back up all ur stuff b4 u do this tho lol.
