I applaud Apple for this move. Particularly if this becomes a trend. We shouldn't have to applaud them for something that they should already be doing but I want them to get the message loud and clear that it is better to slip a date than to have slip in quality.
Given the fact that Apple doesn't allow for downgrading iOS versions, the version that gets released needs to be rock-solid. Obviously it is impossible to release an OS that is completely bug-free, but when a bug is found that impacts a release date, miss the date don't brush it off as, "screw it, let's go now and we'll release a patch later".
IMO iOS 8.x has been the nadir of that thinking. I hope this marks a change in that direction.
