I do not like the command structure in the push buttons! I always accidentally push it to turn on voice caption sound. I have to hunt to see where it at to turn it off! Plus, the thinnest makes swiping right or left tricky since it just rolls to fast and over shoots the target! Roku remote not as sexy and sleek but works well and has headphone jack built-in.

Siri is turn off on my Apple TV box! Make way too many mistakes!

Siri doesn't work in Europe.
The remote control doesn't work 50% as the idiot who thought this was handy "designed" it such a symmetric thing, you never know/feel what side is what.
Oh wait, that doesn't matter, as it has Siri!
Siri doesn't work in Europe.
Oh wait, the idiot that "designed" the remote is coming from Europe.
Oh wait, he too received (many) awards for his designs.
Like making a remote of glass.
But it doesn't matter, as the Apple TV is just a hobby.
Steve said so...
must be true

I use Siri more on my Apple TV than any other device despite the fact that I usually only use it as a way to search Netflix and Hulu simultaneously. iPhone Siri only gets used when sending texts while driving. Never used on my iPad or Mac

Something tells me they didn't even try Siri for long before giving out the award. Or it won by default? Siri on Apple TV is awfully frustrating sometimes. When you say "Rewind 30 seconds" while watching a show, and it replies with "I can't find anything called 'Rewind 30 seconds'", you have to wonder what the hell is going on. It actually understood the voice, and completely messed up the context/instruction.

"Contextual Voice Navigation for Discovering and Interacting with TV Content" category.

WTF - this is basically a category invented so that the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences can get some headlines because it will have "Apple" in the title - that way the MSM can pick it up and the NATAS get a little plug. Nothing to see here sheeple...

Europe, that one region where many US companies often generate more profits than in the US.

Also the region that is a complete mystery and doesn't need to be looked after apparently.

Every time I hear a big tech company is European instead of US-American I cheer a little, whether I'm a customer or not.

Same here, also a third world country (italian speaking part of Switzerland). Siri is available on all other iOS devices except AppleTV. But then again... No TV app, no News App, no universal search, no iTunes TV shows.

Moreover Switzerland has 3 official languages, and a lot of people speak english. Navigating the store on AppleTV is a nightmare.

Siri winning an award for anything, other than fake marketing, is a joke. It's the worst VA around. Heck even my dumb TV has better Voice search than Siri.

Wait a sec, my ATV4 has Siri?! Ah, totally forgot I live in a third world country in the EU

If you want it to pick the wrong content or crash 70% of the time then sure. Siri is on the ATV.

As someone said in another thread, Siri actually works really well on tvOS. Not sure why it’s not great in iOS.

Because it supports 3rd party apps and is very, very, very basic.
[doublepost=1504086631][/doublepost]
Particularly when its the same back-end.. Apple would rather develop more on tvOS than iOS integration

I don't think the complexity has anything to with it.

Clearly it's not the same back end. Siri on TVOs is little more open and supports 3rd party app integration on the Atv and is closed on iOS.

As more and more evidence of the contrary, these "Siri sucks because one time I asked X and she didn't work" posts are getting more and more repetitive.

Siri is a voice search application and it's the product's main selling point, is it not? So, somehow people are unreasonable to expect it to know, find what we ask it to find? ummm... ok.

No, Siri doesn't care about your pirate stash.

not everyone pirates. I spent an entire year building a media library of 2,000 movies - legally purchased blu-ray/dvds and Siri doesn't recognize any of it, because I don't think it recognizes Home Share. I wish TVoS grouped all of that stuff together in the media library like it does in iTunes.

So there's an Emmy for Technology/Engineering? When are the Regular Guy Emmy nominees announced? I think I could be up for Best Supporting Role as a Husband! Fingers crossed!!

Meanwhile, the product doesn't cost less, even though you get a ridiculous cut in functionality.

Huh, but at least in European prices the VAT is included, don't forget that when comparing prices between US and EU!
What a joke...

Can only imagine what its like in non English speaking countries. Here in the UK the ATV is pretty pointless unless you've got a ton of iTunes content. Still no Amazon instant video, no 4K support and anything else (BBC iPlayer etc) is available on cheaper/better devices.

Honestly I would file the Apple TV 4th Gen alongside the Watch, a half baked product pushed out at a premium price point with the hope that developer support would make the device useful. Seems to have happened in the US much more than it has elsewhere.

Not a good investment particularly when you take into account Apple withholding functionality (4k) in order to sell you another model less that two years later.

Too bad it barely works at all and can't even start playing a show for me.

Sounds like a network issue. It’s one of the fastest devices I have and I have all the majors. The only one faster is the FireTV because it prefetches as you’re reading the descriptions and starts playing automatically while the interface slowly disappears. That Netflix experience is magical.

Nope. It has 3rd party integration.

I have been using Roku 2 XS on my TVs but lately they have been giving me some issues. I believe it's a problem with the amount of RAM (256 MB) since all of them will occasionally greatly lag on the controls then reboot.

Should I get the latest Roku or get the ATV 4 ?

Well, I like the AppleTV for its simple UI and Apple ecosystem integration. I like the FireTV stick for the Netflix experience and the stick is super cheap while being fast (no lag, BT remote not IR). It also work me on hotel Wi-Fi authentication systems. I never liked my Roku because the UI for most apps takes a lot to navigate and it’s ugly.

Unless you want iTunes/Apple Music and Photos integration the FireTV stick is a no brainer.

I'm more inclined to believe it's some kind of hardware issue. Siri takes the request, navigates to the show you asked for, and "presses play". It then gives you the status spinner forever. If you hit menu, you're at the details screen for what you tried to watch. If you hit play manually, it still spins forever. If you then back all the way out to the home screen and go back in by hand, manually playing it works again.

I have personally found Siri on the Apple TV to be a fail. Especially when it comes to content searches. I guess I don't search for the common stuff which might be why no one has updated the meta data in the system. This is a common complaint I've had but that Apple seems to not care about.
If they got their content meta data in line and got the whole single sign in and TV app support going across the board they could really have something going. But for now the whole thing feels a lot like Ping

Truth to the fact you can fail upward. To be honest I haven't used Siri on Apple TV for a while now, but when I have it has been an overwhelmingly frustrating experience and I wasn't finding content that should be readily available. Maybe it has improved but this is a terrible award to be offered by the Emmys, and specifically to Apple for Siri on Apple TV.

I subscribe to sling television and I read that it's a general consensus that none of the sticks (including FireTV) work well with it.

Right now, I'm trying to decide between the ATV 4 and the Roku Ultimate.

It seems like Siri works well with the ATV 4. Anyone here have any experience with the voice control on the Roku Ultimate ?
