you put yourself in a bad situation with the screws and "messing" with the new computer. That gave them an excuse against you.

But, I still think, that them being Apple they should have helped you out - regardless of the fact that you are a 1st year or 15 year mac veteran.

Has anyone else notices how poor Customer Service has been with apple lately? The Geniuses are running wild...

The "Geniuses" have to answer 20 fairly basic questions. They have next to no training. Anybody can be a "Genius."

Yeah - Apple is a real dog lately - they suck and this CR rating must have been cooked:

It really is quite simple - you purchased a new computer and failed to inspect it BEFORE you started modifying it.

In the process of modifying it you damaged it.

It is unfortunate but - IMO - the majority of the fault is yours. As others have asked - how in the world did you FAIL to see an issue that is now bothering you so much? If you knew the manager well why did you not give it to them w/i the 14 day period and have them put the drive back in when the proper screws arrived?

Your zeal to start modifying prior to inspecting has cost you.

It is a tool - use it and quit moaning about what might happen as a result of the gasket. The computer will be old news w/i 3 years or so anyway.

My MBP is now almost three years old - very pleased with its' performance. I'm sure it has a number of flaws if I want to run pixel checker or get a straight edge out or go crazy with istats or or or or ......

Pay to get the gasket thing fixed, send it in to Apple (and take your chances that it may come back in worse condition), sell it on ebay, buy a PC, or get on with life and use it.

The bottom line is the hard dive screws are irrelevant. If it's a manufacturer's defect it should be covered under warranty. Cosmetic issue or not. One of the reasons we buy these machines is for their aesthetic appeal. This should have been covered.

zorahk - I - and many others - have outlined the courses of action you can take.

Quit wasting time complaining on this board - it will not fix anything.

Choose a course of action and get on with it.

And be sure to do some thinking and inspecting and planning with whatever you wind up with.

Your course of action implies that I should pay hundreds of dollars for them to fix it out of coverage when it is not my fault in the slightest and is a manufacturer defect.

Thanks, I will take that into consideration right after I am done pondering on whether to move to North Korea for real. (See my fake location)

Choose a course of action and get on with it.
Did you even read the thread? I tried calling applecare repair, they said they can't authorize but I should talk to CR. I talked to CR, they said they can't authorize and I should talk to the store who originally said they can't authorize. I am getting the runaround on all ends. They want me to give up, but for 3,000 dollars invested in a computer, even if the issue is indeed minor, I will not give up for sake of principle alone. I need a better idea at this point then calling random numbers. Is there a higher tier number? Should I speak to a supervisor and would that do anything or would that simply anger them? There are other things I can try but I am asking for advice as to what to attempt, unfortunately no one in this thread has answered that question, instead they waste their time bowing down to the almighty apple. Which is quite unfortunate as if some of the people in this thread weren't brainwashed I am sure they could be quite helpful.

I am not going away with an unfixed computer, $30 spent on screws, and a "sorry your screwed" from everyone. I want an apology and I want them to make the situation right, as currently it is making me bitter towards apple. My confidence in their customer service has gone way down because of this experience, as the service part of customer service is not quite there.

"I'll head over to the apple store and have the manager there who I know order me the screws."

The managers have discretion on such matters - he could have taken you computer in - re-installed the stock HD with the screws when they came in, and fix the gasket or take the computer back in.

He didn't.

Given this thread - we may have an insight as to why.

Actually to tell you the truth the store told me to talk to CR...

And the only people I am being rude to are people like you in this thread who are here for nothing more than to ruin what would have otherwise been a helpful thread.

How has the thread been helpful - all you have done is waste time crying about your mistakes and how awful Apple has treated you.

You simply do not want to accept responsibility for your poor inspection PRIOR to modifying and damaging the computer.

Neither this Board nor its participants can fix the issue - your issue remains unfixed and you continue to waste time arguing.

Good Luck - you obviously need it.

zorahk,

if going to the next level of chain of command nor going straight to the top is working, it's time to get some external pressure on this
i dont know where exactly you are. but in hong kong, companies have the same altitude UNLESS you either show assertiveness, or you go to the media.
since what you are telling the media is truth, there is no slander or libel involved. media usually love stories like this, and for the sake of public image, those companies would be forced to react. that's your one of your very last choices.

cheers,
hope you get the mbp fixed ASAP,
lawrence

You claim to have gone through everyone's suggestions but the one you are missing that may prove to help you the most is calling the credit card company you used to purchase the laptop. Call their customer service and tell them that you bought the laptop and outside of the 14 day return period you noticed a cosmetic defect that apple is unwilling to take ownership for and that this will not repair or replace under warranty. Tell them that you want to cancel the charge and return the laptop back to apple. See if that helps. Apple is a lot more likely to take Citi or American Express or whomever seriously than someone who obviously isn't as upset as he leads on to be if he hasn't exhausted all avenues.

I ordered a replacement set of screws. Installing a hard drive does not count as modification unless you are a pansy apple nerd like yourself who couldn't tell me what a bios is. I didn't damage anything. How does a screw set, attatched not even to the computer but the hard drive, have anything to do with the screen. Why are you so adamantly denying apples responsibility for the cosmetic defect.

Very tedious - what do you want from this thread - a group hug or something?

The reality of forums is that you are going to get different views on your post or issue. Many of us view you as more of the problem due to your lack of inspecting your purchase before stripping the screws. A number of approaches have been suggested but you are spending your time crying and arguing on this thread as opposed to working the issue with the Apple retail store manager that you know. Maybe he knows you very well and that is why he told you to call Apple CR instead of working the issue with you directly.

So Apple has treated you horrible, the retail store manager has avoided you, the people who ordered the screws are morons or something - yada yada.

At any rate we can not fix it - you appear to be highly resistant to resolving the issue with the people that you need to get to.
