iOS 15 feels like an iOS 14.9. Every year can't really be "major" for the sake of being major. Can imagine next year the tune changes when they do more under-the-hood.

This is good news. Not having to update the whole OS just to get security update!

There haven't been any security updates since the release of 15. Once one is available, it'll (presumably) appear in Software Update.

Will devices on iOS 15 be eligible for a downgrade? If they keep a signed version of iOS 14, it will be possible to downgrade at any given time, right?

Thank god. I will not let my mother update for Safari alone 😅 she will call me asking who deleted the internet cuz she can’t search for any sites anymore (too used to the look and feel of an address bar on top)
That was the first thing I change, and I took about a half a second. It certainly there a reason it’s not to get it but, that should not be one!

If it’s digitally signed by Apple then yes. I had an iPad 2 a few years ago and they were still allowing a downgrade from iOS 9 to iOS6

Interesting. Hopefully this doesn’t lead to fragmentation where a ton of people are still on iOS14. That would be a pain for developers.

Wife's ipad air 2 can't upgrade ipados 15 due to only 16 gb of storage, even after striping about everthing.
I am very disappointed that Apple has not provided an update for ipados 14.8 to patch the plethora of vulnerabilities patched with 15.0- some of which look pretty severe, e.g.
  1. Processing a maliciously crafted dfont file may lead to arbitrary code execution, CVE-2021-30841+
  2. Processing a maliciously crafted image may lead to arbitrary code execution, CVE-2021-30835+
  3. A malicious application may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges, CVE-2021-30857
  4. An application may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges, CVE-2021-30837

Can’t you restore the device from scratch using iOS 15.0.1 plugging it to your mac?

That sounds odd.. my understanding of iOS 15 was that they made it quite a bit EASIER to upgrade devices that had limited storage available. Obviously moving off apps but saving data, etc. I’ve found on a phone I use that historically I had issues since I was ~58GB for a 64GB device, and had to micro manage an upgrade, but now it just does it without notice. Maybe a reboot (I’m sure you’ve already done that but sometimes it takes more than one.)

Also, sometimes DOWNLOAD the iOS updates is checked, so it downloads the large payload, but waits for IOS installation. Maybe, delete the downloaded IOS 15 update package (if it is already listed in the storage items) and then reboot, then check for updates again and download it, then install directly.

With 16GB of available storage I don’t see why it won’t do it, unless it’s such an older iPad and not supported?
