Wow, that's a surprising un-Apple of them! What next? 3rd party repairs? A two year warranty?!

Awesome! Because there is sure a lot of new bells and whistles that will not work correctly for at least 9 months. Picked this time because of the stuff still broke in iOS 14. 👎

What they meant to say:

When we released iOS 14.0, the migration process corrupted your Health data and we couldn't figure out how to fix things until 14.2, three releases later. Users who were smart enough to wait had to decide between corrupt data or staying on an unsupported version of iOS with known security vulnerabilities.

With iOS 15.0, we are admitting it hasn't been fully tested, so we will continue to provide security fixes for iOS 14 until enough volunteers have helped us complete its development.

hate to say this but it’s still not fixed. I have awards on my watch from this year that don’t appear on my phone.

Sweet, this will allow users to at least get another year out of their devices! Perfect for my grandparents who don't need anything fancy.

Proof that even if Apple does something people want, some people will whine that it was because something else was bad and they had to. Do y'all ever get tired of complaining?! Asking for a friend...

I'm writing this comment on iOS 9 this very moment. It's not like people HAVE to upgrade.
Later ones update or download the newr update to be ready for you to press the install button even though you specifically told the device to not grab any updates.

They better be prepared to buy me a work phone if they have a policy like that.
I’d assume that any company concerned with security would provide a work phone, regardless. Especially considering that people using private devices for corporate usage are one if the larger vectors for being exploited.

Very good point. Too many think they have to when your post shows you don't.
I’m guessing part of it depends on the user’s personality. Like, if they’re OCD, then knowing they don’t HAVE to upgrade doesn’t help when they see that red dot, beckoning, mocking, DARING them to do the upgrade and end this misery!

This is good as the .0 releases can often be rough - as can the subsequent tech support requests from parents!

The 'emoji' updates are shaping up to being the ones to upgrade to for most people, so it's great that you're covered re. security updates until then.

Am I the only one who thinks this is a really bad step? Before you know it, Apple will have to support a billion versions of the software, like Microsoft and Google. We all know how beautifully elegant their ecosystems are. Pushing people onto the newest version, despite the occasional glitch, is a great thing. Apple just gave themselves double the support work with that small announcement!

Probably because of those 32GB devices.

Look what happened with Watch S3 and watchOS 7.5.

Seems to be it.

Especially good news for corporate folks who are not fully back into their offices yet. (USA is starting to return more largely in September. Globally, does not seem to be the case.) Those IT departments will have some time before telling employees their Exchange servers magically stop working if you update iOS accidentally overnight.
