With the use of touchscreen, the tablet is now poised to eradicate the laptop market in the next 5 or so years. So expect all the laptop designs to become tablets.

I doubt this. Without a physical keyboard, serious computer users won't use such a device.

I'm waiting for a 20" tablet.

Made of stone, like all tablets should be.

Who needs a keyboard when a hammer and chisel will do?

Of course... Because carrying around and dealing with the assembly and disassembly of a three piece kit would be much easier than dealing with a one-piece laptop.

I don't think Apple will abandon its extremely popular laptop line for this item. That would be crazy. The tablet, if it is real, will simply be another option.

And I'd be willing to bet Apple's designers COULD make a three-piece kit convenient in some way, with some clever design that we cannot foresee. Particularly, if the pieces are thin enough.

I don't get the point fully. A larger tablet needs some sort of stand for viewing movies, or if you were using a wordprocesor of some kind on the full OS X version. But then what would support the tablet while you are typing on the screen and stop is sliding across the table? Do we have to have it flat on our laps?

A 10" tablet seems silly. Too big for a pocket, but too cumbersome for carrying everywhere in a case. Aside from a better movie and web viewing experience what would a 10" tablet actually offer over an iPod Touch?

This report said that the design was based on the iPod Touch/iPhone. In another thread here someone posted a photo of someone holding a 10" sized iPhone that was used for display in a shop window with the caption "does this look cool to you?" They were totally right, it looked downright silly!

The iPod Touch and iPhone work well because they are supported with your other hand while typing etc. Try typing on your iTouch or iPhone with it flat on the table. Its uncomfortable, and with the angle your fingers obscure even more of the screen than the virtual keyboard does.

I can see some advantages for drawing programs and one or two others. But for me the disadvantage of a tablet design as a portable device outweighs any advantages.

Lol, yeah right. Same was said about the iPhone. What's the point of hating? It makes no sense. If something works better, it just does. Millions type faster on an iPhone than they ever did on phones with push buttons. Hating is a joke, people need to stop it.

I can't. Some people still need a physical keyboard.

You'll be able to plug one in or Bluetooth it. This is the beginning of the end for laptops for sure. There are two useless surfaces on a laptop and Apple hates useless surface area.

Would anyone in their right mind want to write their thesis on a iPhone?

If it runs Parallels...

If it runs Parallels or VMWare, that would kick ass. Of course, getting a native Mac OS version of Quickbooks Premiere Edition would solve many of my headaches.

it is not just the hardware but also the software which makes Apple so bad ass. If they pull a tablet off, all hell is going to let loose. Everyone, NOW, is waiting for Steve to give this a go.
Don't ever forget, Jobs is a tech guy. He knows the industry like Ben Berneke knows the economy. People loose sight of that but do your research.
Apple was started by engineers(Woz) and software(Job). Unlike the rest of the computer biz where all you have is a person or a group of folks with cash and a dream of playing the high tech game.
Viva Apple!
Get ready for the revolution!!!!

most of the successful tech companies were started by engineers

...I love you Apple, but this relationship of you just taking all of my monies is getting a little out of hand, but you make me so happy. Pathetic. I know. . . :(

Not so pathetic. It beats spending money on transient things...or even harmful things. You're not spending on something you put up your nose, that alters your reality, and is then gone, right? Why feel bad about spending $ on something that lasts for years, and is a tool for our creative urges? The only legitimate argument i can see against spending a lot on apple products is what the money might do instead for the poor, for conservation causes, etc., but that's the case with every consumer purchase.

People need to stop hating it's so unbecoming. Everyone who felt the need to complain about the iPhone just because they wanted to hear themselves, came out of the woodwork before the phones release. It's now the best phone out, but those haters won't admit they hated now because they know people will laugh that hate off because it's silly. People need to grow up man. Speculation is one thing, saying a certain tech can or should never happen because YOU feel it shouldn't only on the basis of you wanting to oppose the majority of those who see potential in something, is just immature.

Since it seems the 10inch model will be a big ipod touch it is possible it will be released on Sept 9th along with the other ipods with the 13in iPad and 15in iPad Pro coming at a later date.

I was referring to a computer replacement. No one thinks of the iPhone as a replacement for a laptop or desktop, but rather as a companion. Without a physical keyboard this rumored tablet can never replace a computer. A physical keyboard with tactile feedback does not require you to look at it while you type. The same cannot be said about touchscreen keyboards

- 15" tablet
- multitouch
- pen support
- macbook / air / mini specs

thats all i need and i am happy to pay serious money for that
but 5k modbook pro is just too expensive
i would need it for WORK not for leisure

i have a macbook here but i dont use it because the interface with touchpads is just ****

please 15inch
please

I'm excited for these tablets. I don't think they should run OSX though since it's not built around multi-touch. I think the iPhone OS is plenty powerful and as we've seen with the iPhone, there wouldn't be a shortage of applications for it.

I agree, and well said. If this tablet is real, Apple will make it compelling, or they just won't release it. It's not only the iPhone, the same thing occurred when the original iPod came out. "Who needs it?" "It's too expensive for what it does," etc.

Time and time again, Apple proves the haters wrong, and time and time again, the haters say the same self-centered (I mean they only see their personal viewpoint, not the potential in the wider marketplace) and silly things.
