I've been playing around with Chat GPT-4 and it's incredible, in the same way that Siri is abysmal.

Chat GPT-4 can go from writing poems and stories to discussing pretty technical stuff and seems to have vast amounts of knowledge in so many fields. More than a human could ever hope to have. OK it's not perfect, but... Chat GPT has only been released to the public for 3 months.

Meanwhile, Siri constantly struggles to understand the very limited set of iPhone / iOS / iCloud / Apple Services specific commands (which is a tiny tiny subset of the sort of knowledge that Chat GPT-4 seems to have).

Apple has its work cut out. It's going to take a miracle.

P.S. OK Chat GPT-4 is text only, but throw in a speech generator and interpreter (Microsoft has a very good generator that they've shown as R&D) and it will be incredible.

it appears the it now allows the user to create play lists that we can transfer to and iPad and iPhone?

Any more info on that?

This already exists and is exactly how I sync some movies & shows to my iPad from way back in the iTunes days.

File (menu), New Playlist

...and then just drag and drop whatever video you want in that playlist. You can also name it whatever you want: mine is iPadMovies (I know, I know, the originality of that name is mind boggling).

Next time you connect the iPad, choose sync and select the playlist option so you can choose your new playlist.

So instead of "Working on it" every time I ask Siri to do the simplest thing, she might say "Hang on, bruh"? Is that what this means"

Apple is in big trouble. AI revolution is taking place and none of their applications is prepared for that, even worst, they don’t have the technology to do that, Siri is a useless button while ChatGPT is going to write emails and ppts blazing fast.

I wouldn’t say Apple is in trouble because they still do just fine in the hardware department. But, they better keep an eye on things to say the least.

If they can replicate the voices they use in their AI audio books, that would be an improvement. A digital assistant is basically a slave — it does what you tell it to do. The current Siri voices are too chummy sounding.

If macOS apps aren’t something that will appear anytime soon, Apple should allow users to sign-in to those TV platforms from inside the TV app on macOS to allow shows to be tracked/displayed in Up Next on the Mac.

On the other hand, since all of those apps already exist for iPadOS, I’d hope Apple would nudge the platforms to enable their apps to appear in the Mac App Store.
seems silly doesnt it.

I mean, with an Mx powered MacOS machine, then if the developers choose, you can install iPadOS apps on the Mac.

So, all that needs to happen is that the iPad versions of the existing apps need to be allowed to be installed on MacOS and then of course integrate into the TV app as happens on TVOS, iOS, and iPadOS already.

But, until that happens, the TV app in the context of MacOS is largely useless.

But the good news is that we are getting new emoji with the next release of iOS. Keep up the good work Apple. Its not too hard when the bar is set so low.
Just wait until the AImoji take over, Apple will be so last decade.

Tim Cook dropped the ball on this in favour of subscriptions, boosting advertising and TV shows to increase share price.

Will it improve any? Because Siri is so stupid. I was trying to listen to my HomePod yesterday while vacuuming and I told Siri, “Hey Siri, play ‘Tomorrow 2’ by Glo Rilla and Cardi B” and it took like 4 attempts before Siri actually played the right song on the HomePod… it’s not a good look, especially considering the premium Apple charges for their products.

Siri is way behind. I'm not an amazon fan boy, but Alexa is pretty impressive, especially when compared to Siri.

Siri is like talking to a sugar and caffeine hopped up 8-year old. It rarely misses if I take that to mind. Sure, it could be better, and Apple's 'Voice Command', blazingly ironic, worked way better than Siri, but *shrug*...

Steve Jobs saw AI/Siri as the next big frontier in tech and Apple completely dropped the ball after his death. They got comfortable making incremental improvements to their existing products and lacked the vision and boldness of Steve to make the next big move. Alas, others have now taken the AI reins and Apple is in danger of falling way behind here.

I’m really surprised we don’t have a Siri 2.0 or more by this point. I use Siri a lot to be sure. It just seems there is so much opportunity for improvement. We need a “wow!” release of Siri.

"Working on it" and the like mean that Siri needs to connect to the servers and can't. I'm not blaming the internet here; I find Siri often fails to connect when the internet is fine. Depending on your iPhone model, that may mean that your voice was understood but the query couldn't be handled locally, or it may mean the recognition has to be done on the cloud as well.

This is by all means worth mocking, but it's not really a problem with Siri's logic or response.

Unless you're going through the gully near my house, then it's just ****** internet.
