Apple Working on New MacBook Neo With Two Upgrades

Apple is working on a new MacBook Neo with two key upgrades, including an A19 Pro chip and increased RAM, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The updated MacBook Neo is one of 11 new Mac models that Apple plans to release.

With the A19 Pro chip, the second-generation MacBook Neo should have 12GB of RAM, up from an A18 Pro chip with 8GB of RAM in the current model.

The report suggested that the next MacBook Neo will also have new color options. Existing finishes include Silver, Blush, Citrus, and Indigo.

While the report did not indicate when the next MacBook Neo will be released, the first half of next year seems likely. The current MacBook Neo was released in March of this year. In the U.S., the laptop initially started at a breakthrough $599 for the general public, but Apple raised the starting price to $699 last month.

You can still get a MacBook Neo for as low as $599 in the U.S. through Apple's education store, so long as you are a verified college student or meet other eligibility criteria, or if you opt for a certified refurbished model.

Apple previously said the MacBook Neo was in high demand, but it remains to be seen how the $100 price increase might impact sales. Even at $699, it is still the most affordable MacBook, coming in well below the MacBook Air's increased $1,299 starting price. The company's next quarterly earnings report will be released on July 30.

All those 2 Nm A20 chips are for iPhones. Apple will most likely stick to putting cost effective Previous gen iPhone chips (Binned) in the MBN 2, which is the A19 Pro chip with 12 GB RAM which would be a great upgrade all things considered. The 12 GB RAM is the big upgrade in this case.

I had a chance to play with Neo at Gatwick Airport in one of popular UK electronic retailers. I am very impressed what that little machine can deliver and now after this update it will be even better. However its screen size makes it obsolete for my needs.

Interesting the article says it was introduced at $599 (now $699) then pivots to the EDU Store as a place to get it for $599, but doesn't make mention it used to be $499! Both ways you get shafted, especially since not everyone can buy at EDU store any longer.

True, but everyone can buy Apple Certified Refurbished. Been doing so for over a decade, it’s great! Inspected, cleaned, new battery and full warranty.

These latest price increases almost certainly take into account the price increases in Apple's latest RAM, SSD and SoC contracts and those contracts cover the next several years (if not longer). As such, I do not expect any price increases for some time.

I have the same expectation, or at least hope. I was expecting a Neo price increase but I had previously guessed they'd increase the price in 2027 with the introduction of the 12 GB Neo. However, now that they've increased prices across the board, I'd guess they'll just keep the prices the same as current prices.

My guess is no. It's an iPhone SoC, and there is no need for two USB 3 controllers on an iPhone... at least not yet.

I had hoped for the original Neo to get two USB 3 controllers even if it meant adding an additional controller chip, but Apple chose against that idea. Apple's choice was OK though, since it at least had a second USB-C port even if it was only USB 2.0, since that was sufficient for charging and slow peripherals. That alone is a major improvement on the single USB 3 port on my 2017 MacBook. That was such a pain since it didn't have a separate charging port and USB 3 port.

What I hope for in the future is a single USB 4 controller, effectively giving these devices Thunderbolt support, but that seems like a long way off.
