Yeah, the days of upgradable portables are (mostly) over.

And realistically - we aren't in the 1990s-early 2000s any more.

RAM requirements for most people are not doubling every 3 years now and people have far better internet connectivity.

Higher end workload will be offloaded to the cloud or for those who need it, a more powerful, more expensive machine. Fact is, for most of the population, this is enough.

Neo, base model iPad, even base iPhone is plenty of compute for a huge percentage of the market who just want a machine for banking, browsing, social media and communication. Some people need more and that's fine - but there's a huge segment of the population who don't want much more than the above.

Exactly. Generally, if a task takes half a second, it doesn’t matter much if it’s 0.4 or 0.6. If a task takes half an hour, it matters a whole lot if it’s 25 or 35 minutes. Most people’s work involves lots of half a second tasks, not half an hour task. That’s why the feeling of working with the computer becomes increasingly more valuable than pure speed. Which benefits Apple.

Just talked to the IT department in the company I work in. The standard issue PC (I think it’s HP now, used to be Lenovo) has gone up to more than twice! From around USD 1200.- at it’s lowest to now 2500.-For literally the exact same computer (which would be smoked by a MacBook Air if they were willing to support it…)

In that light, the Apple price increases are very modest. It will be interesting to follow the PC market share numbers over the next year or two.
