Oh, I do hope that, as a giant F.U. to all the folks who got their shorts in a knot over the underside charging port, that the new mouse will charge wirelessly and like the AirPods case can be placed on either a watch or iPhone MagSafe charging puck.

Because, you know, it’s a wireless mouse that charges really quickly and works for a long time on a single charge and absolutely does not need to be left plugged in and converted to a wired mouse.
What if you want to use it with more than one device connected to a thunderbolt dock? Not possible without a wire currently

I just didn't think ports on the side was what people wanted, I've only heard people say they want it on the front so they can use it like a corded mouse, and I've never seen a wireless mouse with a port on the side before. Sounds goofy.

But if we're talking about the side... sure there is some room there, but I can see other issues like needing to have it be overly recessed due to the slope of the sides. More importantly it would look ugly compared to hiding it on the bottom... very un-Apple. Since the port being on the bottom is actually a non-issue for people who actually own a Magic Mouse, it's not surprising Apple would want to visually conceal it the way they do. But sure, Apple could move it to the side if they wanted.

It's just such a dumb thing to be worked up over. It literally has zero impact on you if you actually use one, unless maybe you are a robot that uses the mouse non-stop and doesn't sleep, therefore can't ever find 30 mins to recharge it.

So yeah I don't think bad design, its just a design that has some elements that are form over functionality, like most Apple products do.
Why not just make it slightly thicker? Like why does it need to be as thin as cardboard? I want one, but I use multiple devices with my setup, which is a no go with Bluetooth devices so have to use cables. It’s not just about the charging while using issue

Also if you work 8 hours a day, the battery is absolutely going to die, sometimes whilst in the middle of work. It’s ridiculous design I’m sorry

Apple Magic Mouse is classic Apple form over function. It’s not even ergonomic

This! I hadnt thought about this before , but I doubt they will do this because then people wouldn't buy their keyboard for desktops.. The only reason I use the Magic Keyboard is because of TouchID to login to my Studio since my studio display doesnt have FaceID.

What are the hardware teams doing at Apple....not updating products for years and then just slapping a new port is insane...

It makes no sense to twist customer arms to buy a device that they think it’s worst because of one feature whose only leverage is its tie to the OS. Case in case the Apple Magic Keyboard for the Mac.

The Touch ID is the only reason I would even think about buying this keyboard again.

This kind of bad breath tends to float back.

People value the trackpad, best in class, so make it even better. Actually better!

As for the keyboard and mouse … they were never best in class. Apple has shown no interest in making it so along these years. They are just there to fill in the Mac checklist … the Mac look. The keyboard in particular feels worst then the one that comes on the Macbook.

No go with Bluetooth devices? Then you can't use a Magic Mouse. It doesn't matter where the charge port is.
The reason you can't use a MM while it's plugged in doesn't actually have anything to do with having to turn it upside down... when it's in charge mode the it won't function as a mouse... sensor doesn't do anything at all and the button doesn't click.

So if you want a non-BT mouse with a cable that transmits data, you're asking Apple to design an entirely new mouse.
That would be great but they aren't going to do that, so it's pointless to complain. Also the flatness of the MM is nice. It's very comfortable to keep your hand flat and wrist straight... "ergonomic" mice are anything but. However I don't like how heavy the MM is and that it doesn't glide as well as some other mice.

Some other company should make a mouse wired or with RF dongle that has a touch scroll sensor that works in all directions and with inertia just like the MM. The fact that no one has is dumber than anything Apple has ever not done either their mice. The MM's scroll sensor is its best feature... and the fact that almost every other mouse still has a little bicycle wheel that clicks across a small number of fixed positions is just sad and absurd.

The mouse being unusable when plugged in is by design since you can’t use it having the port on the bottom, it’s physically impossible.

No reason to believe Apple wouldn’t change this if they moved the port to the top. You can use the trackpad and keyboard when plugged in right?

Very odd take

I guess I'm in the minority that doesn't mind the magic mouse charge port being on the bottom (and yes I own a magic mouse and a magic trackpad). That's probably because I'm a light user on a day to day basis, and might charge it to top it off once a week.

Plus what's the deal with the EU and the whole USB-c thing? I know it's old news but I just don't understand why they would want to dictate a port type for devices. I'm not saying the lightning port is more "innovative" than USB-c, it's just that of all the problems in the world that wasn't one I was hoping we would tackled.

I personally love the Magic Mouse, all except the charing obviously, but it goes a long time between charges it is livable, but still a bad design. What I would love to see with an upgrade, and it is the only thing I can see that is an upgrade for the Magic Mouse as it stands is for it to be larger in width and length. I think the charging will go wireless, no more cables.

I hope that Apple's new Magic Trackpad at least has enough so that it doesn't look so laggy on screens with more hertz or at least with the 120 Hearts of the promotion.
