Here. I've solved it with 5 minutes of hacky Preview skills: Bring back the Airpower charger mat for the Magic Mouse. You can still kinda use the mouse while it charges, which is better than it is now, but it also doesn't encourage regular usage. Unless you have cold hands and like a warm mouse. Boom.

Given that the d**m mouse always runs out of power when I'm right in the middle of something important, it is insane that I have to keep a normal USB mouse in my desk drawer to pull out and use for a few minutes when mine dies. Don't tell me that it's just an opportunity to stand up and take a breather while the mouse charges. But otherwise I think MagicMouse is great.

I feel the same way. My guess is that most of the noise comes from people who don't actually use Apple's products.

I used the Magic Mouse for a while before switching to the MX Master 3. The charging port being at the bottom was never an issue for me. The battery lasted for months on a single charge, and if it ran low, plugging it in for just 10-15 minutes was enough to use it for the rest of the day.

The main reason I switched to the MX Master 3 was the poor ergonomics of the Magic Mouse. That said, I still miss the smooth scrolling and gesture support of the Magic Mouse, and I’m hoping to switch back to it sometime soon.

Same. I would love to give apple more of my money, I hope this redesign is their first-ever mouse you can actually use.

My hand orthopaedist told me to get a Logi MX Vertical for my wrist pain. I haven't had any since I switched. Trackballs are good too, but the MX Vertical is great. They're often on sale refurb as well.
I am a fan of the Magic Mouse.

But my preference is a trackpad.

Do people not like the trackpads?

I only had one complaint with the Magic Mouse, a big one, the over sensitive scrolling - all directions. It has no reference. It just slides around at will, which is fine I suppose for those who are young with a steady hand, but frustrating for some of us when we're doing, for instance, spreadsheets and crosswords.

I finally decided, no more triggering that tizzy-fit response. Gotta think of my heart. I did some checking then shopped around and found that B&H had the Logitech MX Master 3S on sale for $90 (it was even cheaper at Amazon if you didn't mind waiting a few weeks for delivery).

So, in a nutshell, Apple can wait as long as it so desires to introduce its new Magic Mouse. It won't make a difference to me. I'm 100% satisfied with this Logitech mouse that I'm using right now as we speak.

I wouldn't stress over it. You can order any number of bluetooth mice from anywhere. I bought one from Amazon. Came with adapters for USBC-A and USBA-C, charge port is on the front end. Not only that, it matches the color of the MBP. Been using it since January and haven't had to charge it yet. Did I mention that it's $13???

I always thought traditional Mac users simply gravitate towards track pads, like I have. I really thought the mouse was dead.

It's a night-and-day difference. Apple's trackpads are a major competitive advantage over windows. I could never go back to a mouse after the first multi-touch trackpads and the Magic Trackpad.

That's how I feel. I do use a mouse when I need really fine pointing or when I get bored with the pad.

The fix will probably be MagSafe, either under or on top. Under if they really want to still impress on you that you should charge your mouse some times. On top if they just want to make you feel silly for not periodically charging.

no need to change anything, I use it every work day for ~8 hours, since the day it came out. Feels great in my (mid-size) hands, solid, travels easy in my laptop bag, love the swipe surface, glad it has no wheel. It's easy super easy to clean as well. Charging port is a non issue, once a month I plug it in at the end of the day (or if I get a battery warning) and I am good to go. Even over lunch it charges plenty to be good for a few days.

I have to think Steve Jobs would be rolling over in his grave (or however that saying goes), at this nonsense.

Lack of creativity, lack of awareness of user's needs, and honestly sheer arrogance. Just like removing the headphone jack in their iPhones. Their "reason" was to add another speaker! Really!? Like anyone cares about micro sized speakers more than being able to charge and use headphones at the same time. I know this probably helps them sell more of their ridiculous looking AirPods with batteries that can't be replaced (where's the "Green" in that design). More and more people I know and work with are going back to wired headsets for the superior quality and (amazingly) not having to be recharged - lol...

I miss Steve...

I suspect removing the headphone jack was more about improved waterproofing, bigger batteries, space for components and device thinness, probably informed by data that showed hardly anyone (relatively speaking) used it.

I also suspect many people who think they miss Steve because of design/product choices Apple made would be sorely disappointed were he alive and well and running Apple. Particularly so in this case. Steve hated ports and was quick to remove outdated technology (see floppy drives, serial ports, etc.)

I happen to care a lot more about the quality of iPhone speakers than the ability to charge and use headphones at the same time (never had a need for that, been using iPhones since they came out).

All good points! I wish they had said that at the time, but instead they tried to sell the idea of making room for an extra speaker which is complete nonsense. Your explanation makes much more sense and would have been better received.

That Magic Mouse really is the worst, because of its multitouch surface. Completely uncomfortable to hold and overly sensitive to any touch. You have to be careful using it, always being proactive about not touching the top.

Same issue with the Apple Remote on Apple TVs, you always have to be careful about touching any of it, otherwise it’ll wreck your Apple TV session by pausing something or starting something you don’t want.

Just copy Logitechs physical scroll wheel. Multitouch shouldn’t be anywhere on anything that’s not a display, as it always requires attention to function. You can’t just rest your fingers on it and continue on as if it wasn’t there.
This is literally the reason I like the Magic Mouse. It is so sensitive that I can just touch the top with one finger and comfortably scroll through webpages. The feeling of swiping on the Magic Mouse is what makes it magic, and I far prefer that over any scroll wheel. It just needs more gestures.
