they are not holding back anything.
They are making (questionable) design choices.
You like it, you buy it. You don't like it, you don't buy it.
If people in the real world would really not appreciate their choices, they are going to lose money. SO far it isn't happening.

Spin it how you want, design choices or holding back, same same but different ;)

It's the same thing mate. So let's save many posts about semantics.

Logic always ends with , "don't like it , don't buy it" , " Apple has lots of money , so I am right and your all wrong"

Becoming a broken record now .

I concur with your feeling; it sounds as bad as Undo on the iPad.

Whenever I plonk myself down with the iPad, up pops the Cancel/Undo window because of the movement. I wish I could turn it off. It's such a stupid thing. As if anyone shakes their iPad to undo. And just another example of how unsuited iOS is for the iPad.
You can turn it off in settings.

You are if you can't turn it off. It then becomes an anti-productivity feature. I disable Siri, for example, because I occasionally activate it by mistake when I press the Home button. If I couldn't disable it, I would use my iPad less.

You can turn off 3D Touch completely. It's in accessibility.

How about a UI that's properly designed for iPad displays and not a blown-up version of the iPhone's Ui?
Man, that is right on. If you look at an iPad Pro it is a complete FAIL from this perspective. I am actually surprised they even bothered to release it. The return rate was be unbelievable.

At least their are tablet optimized applications so it is not a blown up iPhone.

Huh? It's an iPad with a bigger screen, faster processor, more RAM, better speakers and Pencil support. Why would someone return that when they knew the OS it would be running when they bought it?

Well no, because whilst the OS may not be built for tablet screens, apps on the app store are! A lot of them too. So the return rate isn't going to be unbelievable plus the OS has some cool tricks like picture in picture and split screens etc. Done in the easy to use Apple way. Many apps have even already been upgraded for the Pro's screen.

I don't see why you need 3D Touch at all; the menu is essentially just a right click for tablets. Why can't Apple implement this feature with a new touch gesture instead? Tap and hold like normal. Voila! 3D Touch menu appears. Why the force? I don't think the 3D Touch would make much sense on an iPad anyway, especially the pro which relies on the smart keyboard/ cover to prop it up. What happens if you 3D Touch in "watch mode" while using said cover/ keyboard? You'll be picking up your expensive iPad off the floor. The phone makes more sense because you're using your entire hand to support the device/ press. Although, if they could implement the haptic feedback on the virtual keyboard, that might be useful....

I've been kind of sad about the news, but it does make sense. Using 3D Touch in an iPhone is intuitive. I can't see myself using it a lot on an iPad due to its size and how it needs to be positioned in your hands. I think Apple Pencil makes much more sense in this instance.

Precisely. It's basically right clicking on touch devices, I think they just wanted to add it to make their bigger iPads usable.

it's not semantics. A design choice is a choice, even if not desirable (like the soldered RAM and no upgradable drive on the new 4K iMac).
Holding back is another matter...

Logic is quite simple when marketing is involved: people vote with their wallets. If nobody is going to buy the new 4K iMac, because of its soldered RAM, Apple would question their choices and act accordingly.
I strongly suspect that outside of this forums customers are still going to buy the 4K iMac not caring about soldered RAM whatsoever....

Do you have any proof of this "complete fail" and the "unbelievable return rate" of the iPad Pro ?

Speaking of design choices... why the heck did they stick with the tired iPhone 5/iPad Mini 1 design for the iPad Pro?

I hate chamfer edges... I've scratched it by accidentally tapping my sunglasses' on them once on my Mini 2. Probably one of the worst design choices Apple has ever made. I much prefer the rounded glass sides of the iPhone 6/s/plus.
Very subjective opinion. iPad design isn't tired.

It's a given that Apple will eventually bring the technology to iPad, but why would anyone assume so soon? It makes complete sense for Apple to hold off on implementing 3D Touch on iPads for at least one more generation. The decision kinda makes the 2016 iPads a waste of money, but they "need" new models next year, so we'll see the typical performance and software upgrades. Plus, iPads will still sell plenty and will sell even more when 3D Touch finally does come to iPad.

I hardly ever use it on my 6S. I keep forgetting about it and press an icon to remove the programme only for the menu to pop up, forgetting i have to lightly hold pressing the screen to get what I want.
Doubt I would miss it really. Really not sure if I would use it on a tablet, especially a 13" one!

I use it all the time and find it incredibly useful. Different strokes...

Seems like cutting off one's nose to spite one's face.
