Foundation is fine! Read the books in HighSchool.

The real issue is Apple drifting off its area of expertise.
It is an ego trip for Apple management. They can socialize wit Hollywood "stars" and attend the Oscars.

If they want to get intoshow business, why not acquire Netflix?

Just making a TV show doesn’t mean you automatically get to attend the Oscars.

Apple has inked a deal for a TV series adaption of Isaac Asimov's Foundation science fiction novels, reports Deadline. The series, created by Skydance television, is in development for straight-to-series consideration.

You know...psychohistory predicted all this, right? Will be waiting for Hari Seldon to making a pre-recorded appearance before this show airs.

Huh, interesting. Some of their previous efforts seemed a little, uh, normie, but this could be cool.

Welcome to the world of computers in 2018. We were spoiled by being allowed to watch the industry develop and mature over the last 40 years. The rapid-fire pace of "what's next" is gone virtually everywhere, not just at Apple.

I remember how cool it was 10 years ago when I got my first iPhone, and I held it in my left hand, and used my right index finger to tap the screen and get my email.

10 years later, I can't believe people are excited about spending $1000 so they can hold the newest iPhone in their left hand and tap the screen with their right index finger.

(I don't mean to be "handist".....use left/right accordingly)

Not to mention still be excited it about it enough where they will cross the street without looking up from the darn phone.

As many have already pointed out, I really enjoyed Asimov's novels. They were my first literature approach with sci-fi when I was a teenager.

It's the first Apple rumored TV show that I find attracting. I'm not going to rush in bad conclusions regarding Apple's capability to ruin a masterpiece like the Foundation series. I get the worrying feeling that some have expressed considering what has Apple made in this field so far, though.

By the way, when I was a boy I wondered many times why did nobody produce a show or a series of movies on this subject.

Wow - this is one of the best sci-fi stories that's ever been written, and it's long running enough to make a great series. I hope they don't screw it up .

A film adaptation of Arthur C. Clarke's "Childhood's End" has wandered around Development Hell™ for decades. We will likely never see it because its notion of "gargantuan spaceships hovering over the world's capitals" has already been co-opted by "V" and "Independence Day." Similarly, I always thought that the broad outlines of the Foundation universe were borrowed by George Lucas for "Star Wars." Let's see: a republic replaced by an empire; a mutant emperor; a planet that is the galactic capital, which is completely developed with no bare soil....

The reason I finally gave in and got amazon prime was American Gods. I would not underestimate the ability of some things to push people that last little bit to a new service.

Not sure if they will be able to pull off an engaging production of the Foundation. Hopefully we will see.

A very cherished trilogy for me... not so certain they can pull it off, but I'll give it a chance in any case.

SUper excited, remember the Foundation Series beat out The Lord of the Rings for the Hugo. Great writing, great fiction.

More to the point, Apple isn't "making" this show any more than Netflix makes the programs they stream. What they do is bankroll the producers, who are the ones who make the show what it is (or isn't).

True.

I was just pointing out that they aren’t necessarily going to get invited just because a show gets made.

Wow... On one side, I'm insanely excited to hear about this, and also filled with trepidation... anyone remember the monstrous carbuncle that was the movie "I, robot"?
Yes, unfortunately. The problem with "I, Robot" was, it started out as an entirely unrelated movie in production, called "Hardwired", and they got hold of the Asimov IP and slapped on the name, changed some character names to match, and tweaked it a little bit. It's main connection to Asimov's story is the name. Same thing happened with Heinlein's "Starship Troopers", and now neither is likely to ever get a proper treatment.
