Apple seemed to be either caught unprepared or too preoccupied with self-congratulatory activities to respond effectively to the situation. Their lack of timely action suggested a disconnect between their public image of innovation and their actual responsiveness to emerging challenges in the market. This novel AI tech is going to change the whole of humanity. It could be the end of Apple if they don’t catch up quickly.

Haha, no...

Want to send a text without talking out loud and annoying everyone around you? Nope..

I will never understand this brand of contrarianism. Like I understand being skeptical of new technologies—I am too!—but sticking your head just means you're gonna get left behind. Why would you want to be the old man who doesn't have a cellphone and can't pay his bills online?

I disabled Apple AI because 1) it doesn't work 2) I couldn't find any use for it, whatsoever.

It's just a bad product.

You'll eventually come around, as I have. I felt for the longest time that services like ChatGPT couldn't possibly replace my carefully-crafted web searches, but I was wrong. Wrong.

While companies deploying LLM-based solutions need to be held to a high standard, there's no denying that using these services is the quickest way to get comprehensive info and answers from many sources at once.

Turning off Apple Intelligence doesn't mean you hate all AI and refuse to use it. I have it turned off because it's not useful to me in its current state.

I don’t use traditional search engines much now. Very very rarely use Google. My main engine was DuckDuckGo for a long time but even now I don’t use it much.

ChatGPT allows for much quicker and precise results. I even run a local LLM on my PC but that’s not really for searching the web.

I pay bills online just fine without a cell phone. As I have a flip phone it's not an option anyway.

If he doesn't think people will need an iPhone years from now, how are people going to do things like take pics and record videos? No more YouTube, TikTok, Meta, etc in 10 years? 🤞
There is standalone device device called a camera. They exist without being part of a larger device whether it be a phone or a laptop. Many cameras feature interchangeable lenses as well.

Nevertheless, Cue said he believes that Google should remain the default search option in Safari. He added that he lost sleep over the possibility of Apple losing the revenue share from the agreement between the two companies. The deal now includes Google Lens integration in Visual Intelligence.
Damn, Eddy. Are you going to be ok? 😂

Well, the annoying part is happening today already, actually has been for years …

And I’ve turned Apple intelligence off too, don’t have a use case, but others do, so that’s ok.
I’ve also turned copilot off on my 365 and switched to the 365 classic subscription.

The hype is concerning, today’s results do not warrant the investment imho

I think the summaries work well. It's amazing how quick it is. A big time saver. If you don't like or trust the answer, you can always look further, but it's pretty good. Not a rough sketch. And also, the progress is remarkable. Companies are right to be worried about their position in this. Some bad press, and amusing false starts, notwithstanding.

You're telling me people are going to go back to carrying around a standalone camera in the off chance that they'll want to take a pic/selfie or record video? And on top of that, they'll wait until later to transfer that image or video to another device so it can be posted to the internets?

How does one use a digital drivers license with smart/AR glasses? Do you hand over your glasses to the person so they can put them on to verify proof of identity?

What about using Apple Pay? Place your forehead on payment terminal after Iris ID verifies you?

How does taking a selfie work and making sure everyones in the frame?

Yea, that’s really concerning that he’s losing sleep, I think the DOJ should take that into consideration …
I too would lose sleep over loosing ~$18 billion a year at close to 100% profit margin from what is essentially a side gig, not your core business. Many large, well known corporations don't even make this in a year from the operations. Hopefully Apple did not really think they would keep this ongoing forever.

Everything and anything is revolving around AI. The blind march into AI continues

But what I hear from friends and family is that most feel uncomfortable about this obsession in the media and companies about AI.

In reality, the technology can be great and put to some good uses. But most of it is trash, and the risks to data security and privacy, or worse, can be huge.

There's what people say they want and what people say there are doing then there is the data that shows what they are actually doing it and what that shows is that people are moving away from search in favor of AI.

Oh boy, the smart people in the room finding new ways to push an unfinished product that no one wants.

Erstwhile, Musk's Grok is allowing people to send photos of people to be undressed. Unfortunately we're always told that AI is here to stay and get used to it!

How would you get left behind if you ignore ai?

I mean if it ever lives up to the hype you just say ai do everything for me and it is done.

Ai is everywhere just as well apple is the best in word in the area !!!! Oooh Huston we have a problem 😂
