Yep, looks like Musk wants to sell user data and that will fall into the hands of dictators and organised crime

That would be a violation of App Stores terms, and of course a violation of basic human rights to force users to sell their data.

Well if he makes his app side loadable instead of in the App Store he won’t have to worry about those pesky App Store terms. No it’s not forcing anyone because you agree to it when you use the app. I don’t like it and I think it’s rotten but it’s not forcing anyone

Read the article. Users will be forced to hand over data to advertisers, and since anyone can start an advertising campaign no doubt criminals and governments will do that to get users data. They did that on Facebook for years.

Are they forcing people to download the app and agree to the terms? I’m kind of scared because I hope Elon doesn’t jump out of my closet and make me do this.

I was expecting so much hate for my comment! I’m glad that so many people agree.
I’m not excited for it but it is what it is. This is not a choice iPhone users are making but governments. I don’t think it’s going to be a disaster but it’s going to have some serious issues. I saw this coming from a mile away because of the way Apple has badly handled the whole situation.

I don’t think it’s all going to be all negative either. There’s going to be some benefits for the more nerdy iPhone users. I kind of wonder exactly how many are using iPhones because I feel most are on android. Maybe this will bring some over and it will be good for Apple

Good. As if there wasn't already enough reason to leave Twitter.

Desktop computers don’t “sideload” to install apps, and there have always been malware issues with distributed installers and packages. The term sideloading refers to installing an application via proxy methods.

Learn how computers work. It’s 2022.

maybe you need to learn a bit about the discussed subject before you copy paste internet links for me here and spam the forum?

Let me explain it is easier so maybe you can understand:

1-Apple is going to allow iOS users to install apps from outside iOS App store.

2-Apple already allows Mac users to install apps from outside Mac app store.

1=2

any risk associated with option 2 also applies to option 1

I can't speak for everybody but personally, I'd use iPhones if it weren't for the unnecessary "security" locks. It fits with the rest of my Apple devices.

Learn to speak online like you would speak in real life.

Sideloading isn’t a desktop term. Never in the history of computing did someone say “I’m sideloading Microsoft Office on my computer”.

The crooks who who fought to get their malware on iOS started this false argument “Oh you have sideloading on Macs so why can’t we sideload on iOS”

Not laughing at your post, rather the source. BI I take with a dump truck or two of salt.

Chrome OS uses "sideloading" as a term. Chrome OS is a desktop computer OS (very limited, but I digress...). It also has ~3% of the worldwide market share.
So yes, "sideloading" *is* a desktop term.
And guess what, I could literally "sideload MS Office on my Chromebook" if I had one.

Ah well at least it will be a bit more like owning a Mac, good news I think. Can't wait for the emulators.

Like people who want to throw MacOS into the iPad, here we go. You want MacOS? Buy a Mac. You want side-loading? Buy an Android device.

Ironically, this reduces choice, in a way. iOS is fine.

What if I want an iPhone and to play GBA games on it?
