i for one am glad that there is no MMS support. it's a technology that's always been silly and hokey, basically a crappy extension hacked on to SMS. if the top-selling handset in the market doesn't support it, that significantly reduces the pressure on other manufacturers to implement it. and it increases the likelihood that they *will* implement proper MIME email. it's a boon to the health of the entire industry that the iphone does not support MMS out of the box.

Do you really want the nice flow of text message 'conversations' to be interrupted by a random picture of some drunk guy your friend thought would be funny to send you because he too was drunk? Personally, I don't.

It makes more sense to have MMS...but not integrate it with the current SMS app. SMS on the iPhone is far and away better than the alternatives on the market at present. MMS would be a nice addition...but it should be a separate app.

I'd personally be happy if it were not necessary to write down a totally random username and password, (that is different each time), and then to have to navigate to another website, enter the name, and password, just to view a picture. Just make it a link that would take us straight to the picture.

Seriously, why would anyone think assigning 3 words per button is better than a standard keyboard layout?

I have no idea, but your response was pretty classic. You can be a funny kid from time to time.

In what way exactly is SMS on the iPhone far and away better? Forget cut and paste, you can't even friggin forward text messages on an iPhone

Also, T9 would be nice, if only as an option. (iPhone's got how many keyboards already? It's even got a gawddamn emoji keyboard. What's a T9 keypad on top.) I'm used to using the qwerty keyboard, but T9's definitely got some speed and flexibility advantages.

I wouldn't mind built in MMS support, if only because I do receive MMS pretty regularly and don't like going to that website. It's too much hassle telling everyone on my Contact list to not send me MMS because I have an iPhone, mainly because they won't remember and will send them anyway. For those of you who never get or used MMS in the past and use that as an excuse, that's great logic. by the by, I've never needed to use the Notes app on my iPhone. Let's get rid of that too!

One thing I honestly can suggest is more RAM. Please Apple. Listening to music and surfing the web at the same time is just painful and laggy. Heavens forbid I get a text or launch another application. It's very annoying.

I guess the layout and size of the buttons matters there. It's easier to hit the bigger buttons when e.g. walking.

I just can't grasp what's the hate against for example T9, MMS or other missing options? If you don't want to use it like T9-keypad, you can always use the qwerty one and never even switch to T9. Same with MMS. I think that if Apple would really rigorously listen to it's customers, there wouldn't be any changes present models (maybe a new macmini, but...)

This thread probably has the worst arguments for 'no-MMS' I've ever read. You know what? I take that back. No argument for 'no-MMS' works.

C'mon. The iPhone has a camera, a decently fast data connection, and probably one of the the best screens on the market. Not having MMS really is a waste. It is still being used by numerous amounts of people.

Just because you don't use it, doesn't mean everyone else won't.

okay, if you want to use it, get an MMS app.

almost every phone these days has a camera, a decently fast data connection, and *should* have email. putting pressure on other manufacturers to implement it instead of silly MMS (for which *very* few computers have support) is a good thing.

as for MMS, kill it before it grows.

There's actually some software that will do half of what you're asking for. PhoneView allows you to do several things in accessing the data of your iPhone without needing to jailbreak, including viewing and exporting SMS. No, there's not a means of sending and receiving SMS through the software (yet), but it's better than nothing.

The day we can get SMS delivered to our phone number over wi-fi though, I'm getting that right away! (I work in a building with no signal.)

I like the look of this software and am going to download the free trial later today. It would be 'nice' if this functionality was avail through iTunes.

Turn by Turn is LONG overdue, it is avail NOW through Cydia. Apple need to pull their fingers out and get a 'proper' version in the App Store now.

Are Apple being greedy by trying to develop their own TBT app? If the use of googlemaps is a problem I am sure many 3rd parties would be willing to use their own, ie TomTom. I for one would be prepared to pay upto £50 for a GOOD version of TomTom. The ability to import POI's would of course be required! (SpeedCams in particular!)
:apple:

I'm not too fond of MMS.. but I'd bet 20.00 (USD) that Iphone will have a form of it standard on the next gen. coming in June. Anyone want to take me up on the offer  I'll paypal the cash to you if I lose, which I won't. I just know :apple: too well.

I feel for you here. On O2 you get the same username and PIN (well I do anyway!) and same URL. Makes it a tad quicker and less awkward.

The free MMS apps you can now get through the iTunes store are fine for me, I only ever receive the odd MMS every few months or so from my sister sending me pics off her phone of my niece, the website view was fine with that and now the free MMS app does it better. What Apple "could" do is take this app over and make it a free option on the App Store, if not integrated automatically, but change it so that it doesn't require "credit" to use, it just links straight to the phone contract...or if the actual developer of that app could do that this is even better...as far as I can make out from past phones with MMS, this is the only thing really making it any different on the iPhone now...the need to buy separate credit to SEND MMS. (receive is free obviously).

I'm not sure if Apple should/will implement MMS, but if they do I bottom line hope its the smallest of the new features of the next iPhone, and one that can be updated across all iPhones (ala Firmware 2.0). If they add it I think it will be "just there" and not really advertised, as it is an old technology whether heavy MMS users like it or not, it will be seen as a step backwards to some and that will cause arguments and pointless bouncings around too!
