That's a lot of money for headphones when many other (high quality) affordable options already exist. You lost me with the "smart case" though. No way would I put my cans in something that looked like that, especially for that price. Plus how is the high fidelity audio going to work over bluetooth? They don't list any power rating or driver specs on their site either. Meh.

Wouldn't be the first time. They had to slash the homepod price pretty quick. And retailers have to slash it even further just to get them out of inventory.
That's because there hasn't been many home-pod type speakers on the market for Apple to compete with. There are many wireless headphones on the market and Apple priced these cans properly to compete with them. I just love how people are trashing these cans when nobody even had a pair in hand to try them. LMAO.

There were plenty of smart speakers on the market when HomePod came out. You don’t cut the price of a great seller.

Will people spend the extra few hundred dollars on these over Sony, Bose, etc? We will have to see. I’m sure they will sell wel at first once everyone that wanted it but it.

Look at how well the Jeep Gladiator sold for the first few months. Once everyone that said they’d buy one actually bought one, dealers have excess product.

There aren't many $550 wireless only headphones either to be fair. Apple is doing the same thing as they did with HomePod. Taking an existing market and trying to milk it for several hundred more dollars.

These will likely, hopefully, maybe sound better than the XM4 and Bose QC. And even if they do sound better, who is going to care? The homepod sounds better than almost every smart speaker, but people don't care enough when an echo is a third of the price.

And if these don't sound better than the XM4 and Bose QC? Well then, bust.

We'll inevitably get a $350 "sport" version and that's when the mass market will pay attention. Until then, these are a status symbol.

I didn't say there weren't many speakers out. I said there weren't many for Apple to compete with in terms of price so that's why they had to drop the price on the Homepods. Had there been many others in the same price category I doubt Apple would've dropped the price. Same issue with the original iPhone. A fully subsidized phone at $600 didn't sit well when other fully subsidized premium phones were less than half of that and some of them were free phones.

Bowers & Wilkins P7's $400. The Bang & Olufsun H9's $500. B&O also has a pair of $800 wireless cans and the "gold edition". The rest of what you said applies to EVERY company. Show me a tech company that thinks only about the consumer to a point that they are willing to make as little profit as possible so the consumer can spend as little as possible.

Firstly I had a seriously chuckle because I thought you were being serious with this entire post. 😂

Well you're the wrong customer for ANY Apple product if you think price should be the only consideration and quality should take a far backseat.

Anything sounds better than the Bose QC's. ANYTHING.

You should be running Apple. You know their marketing before they'll even do it. 🙄

People spend hundreds more for a good quality pair of cans.
That doesn’t mean $550 isn’t a lot of money for headphones. That people are willing to pay more? Well it’s their money, so with it what they will. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’d be super curious to know how many people with such pricey headphones:
A) Listen to audio that actually is high enough quality to matter
B) Can legitimately tell the difference

So far though they appear to be popular enough with shipping dates slipping in to March for some colors! I hope they live up to people’s expectations, but it’s not for me.

So what you're saying is they are priced properly for no one. Come on!
Np, i just said That aptx is missing. And at this Rate ist is a no-go. Everybody can buy it.
i personaly think w/ flac, VLC and Aptx it woul‘d be a deal. Don‘t you think?

I’m sure someone else will enjoy them, I think they will sound absolutely amazing. Still nothing can beat my bose system in car.

I’ll stick to my AirPods Pro’s as I find myself using them every single day

If you truly think people who spend $550 on a pair of wireless headphones that are meant to connect to their Apple devices for the best experience are suddenly going to pretend to be audiophiles then I have no more to say on the matter. The fact that Apple is known for music, their music creation software Logic Pro X is widely used by top musicians, they gotten rave reviews on the sound quality alone from their Air Pods, and they put speakers in all their laptops that are the best in class of any competing laptop is enough to show that they are serious about these cans and no doubt will they sound better amongst others in their class.

If you think $550 for a pair of quality headphones is expensive then I think you should check out the buyers who are spending $500 on the Playstation 5 that is simply a "vending machine" in disguise because that $500 is not the only money being spent. To use it you have to buy $70 games. Apple's headphones are a one-time price.

I think you're making more out of this than is necessary to be honest about it. Check out the Bowers & Wilkins ($400) and the Bang & Olufsen H9's for $500. Apple is right on the money for what they are charging especially in terms of build quality and feature set.

It is going to happen the same thing that with the homepod. Way overpriced for what they were.
And as someone said here, too much to pay for listening to AAC or mp3 quality. Even more expensive if you think you have to pay $80 to replace a battery.

Talk about an apples to oranges comparison. Whether or not a PS5 is too expensive is completely unrelated to wether these headphones are too expensive. Completely different category of items with completely different use cases. A Toyota Corolla runs from $20k on up. Does that mean $20k headphones are reasonable too? A house runs in the hundreds of thousands to millions. Would headphones that expensive be reasonable too?

Further, those headphones are much vending machines as the Playstation by your logic. You have to buy music in order to use them just like you have to buy games to use the Playstation.

Try again.

Yes because my analogy works you're dismissing it.

Actually no it's not. A PS5 is in the entertainment tech category just like the Air Pod Max's are.

About as reasonable is this utterly ridiculous analogy. We're talking about $500 tech products, not $20K items. 🙄

Another silly comparison. Generally happens when your argument fails.

Lordy please stop! You don't have to buy any music to use the Apple headphones. 🙄
Try again.
Please take your own advice. In fact don't bother. SMH.

Declaring that your analogy works doesn’t make it work.

Arbitrarily defining a category yourself and to shoe horn in completely different products also doesnt make it work.

And YOU decided to talk about $500 tech products. I was talking about whether a product in a given category seemed too expensive for what it does. You don’t get to arbitrarily set limits on an argument just so you can ignore it’s absurdity. The point is and remains whether one product is too expensive is independent of a product in a different category is also expensive. Your comparison falls apart because headphones are not game consoles any more than they are cars or houses or a bag of chips.

Finally, you can use headphones without music or audio? Guess what, you can use a PlayStation without additional games too. Might not be as fun but it’s totally doable. Aside from numerous free to play games, there are media apps and the like.

Once again you fail.

Strike three. Youre out.
