potato patato, if they did not make a fuss and replaced them for dents and scratches its the same ammount of replacments making them raise the prices

buttom line Apple is not different than any insurance company, they take your insurance money, make you pay a deductable but despise you for calling on them when you need to make a claim

Just because shady geniuses replace it anyway or suggest that you damage it first doesn't mean Apple intends it to be that way, for that's against policy.

If your phone works great then you should consider just keeping it. I know Apple's "refurbished" phones are of great quality, but it is very common to receive them with issues as well. Sometimes they are subtle and you may have a problem that is hard to demonstrate to a genius for another replacement.
(I put refurbished in quotes because last time I got a replacement, which unlike previous ones has been perfect for me, the genius claimed they weren't refurbished phones. I didn't quiz him anymore on what they actually were though.)

I've always been given a new phone, but sometimes they give refurbished

Can't you say it dropped in the toilet, and bring it in a plastic baggy?

I think that's considered a biohazard and they don't have to take it in or something.

I know this may have been a policy at Dell and laptop warranty claims or something. People would say they got toilet water on it or something to just get refurbs or something (I could be COMPLETELY wrong, this must have been years ago that I read online on notebook reviews forum)

More accurate to say you've always been given a white box replacement, which may be brand new from factory or a refurb depending on the time of the iPhone cycle. Yes, they're subject to quality control issues as at least the refurbs get a brand new case, screen and battery which may prove to be a dud, really no different from factory brand new.

You can ask, but you are right, I've had them replaced near the launch for qc issues (my iPhone 5s had the loudest home button ever). The genius told me it was brand new at least.

close- to give to an old relative to finally get a smartphone and onto ios. yeah it does depend on genious that day have heard of stories of them giving you a refurb without even the fee i will just ask. i refuse to break it for no reason but its pretty rundown. and i know its DFU restore first then parts replacement then full replacement.

Try the "locks up randomly when I'm answering calls" line. Add in a bit about locking when you try to hang up. Be clear that it is intermittent and you already tried rebooting the phone multiple times to no avail. Stress the importance of the calling feature and make it clear that your calls are otherwise clear so you know it's not a carrier issue.

Sir, your phone is not damaged enough were sorry, we can't replace it.
Please do a better job breaking it before you make an appointment next.
Thank you for being an Apple customer. :D

Exactly I want to believe the terms mean if its one of those "in your head scratches" they might say that does not qualify but if is visible damge aka dents or the b word than its an accidental drop and should qualify

but they are making $79 for the replacement, and the phone your giving them will be an easy refurb job that they can now put back in the refurb pool to sell to some else for $79 or even more in the refurb store

Thing is they dont expect, and most people are not dishonest enough to intentionally damage their phones. Intentionally damaging ones phone to get a replacement is not what most people do.

What?! You are so very mistaken. I honestly must hang out with the worst people then because I don't have many friends who haven't done this especially just before they sell it.

I don't know anyone who has done this. Different stroke for different folks. Just because you see others doing it doesn't mean you should.

Whether you think your friends are the worst because they intentionally commit insurance fraud is up to you however I tend to agree. I'm sorry your friends are low lives, do they wreck their cars when the engine breaks so they get a new one through insurance instead of fixing it too?

Yeah, definitely apples to apples there. Apple care isn't technically insurance anyway, it is a service contract fulfilled by a service center (read the fine print), and requesting service based on damage from handling is common. Easy to call people low lives from behind your computer. ;)
