I can't understand how you can even think that. It is insurance that I PAID for and will possibly pay a deductible for if I cash in on it. The same way if i scratched my car and wanted it fixed. Nothing dishonest about it. What someone else considers normal wear and tear may be different than what I think. Good luck going through life with that closed minded thinking.

oh and just so you know....when apple sells applecare+ they really push the fact if you want a new phone b.c of cosmetic damage you can get one. I have even been told to drop it by their employees.

So with your logic since I pay for homeowners insurance, and since my home now has some cosmetic damage, it would be ok for me to just burn it down and ask for them to build me a new one? I mean I pay for that insurance so I am entitled to use it, right?

I realize that is an extreme example, but the principal is the same. Insurance is for accidental damage and manufacturing defects. The policy states that cosmetic damage and willful damage are excluded. By intentionally dropping your phone and then claiming accidental damage, you are committing fraud, no mater what you think about it.

Who cares about fakin battery issues why go thru that hassle when u can just break it your self that's why insurances are for..

Wow, the legal system is just going to love you when you grow up.

I think you might be looking for this clause:

ADH coverage does not include (a) protection against normal wear and tear, theft, misplacement, reckless, abusive, willful or intentional conduct associated with handling and use of the Covered iPhone,

it's hard to entertain a conversation when you compare a home to an iphone. Also, if the phone is not damaged you would not need a replacement. If I went to apple and they told me the damage was normal wear and tear, you bet your ass I would drop it.

in a sink or swim world....you definitely would be at the bottom of the ocean.

Just another Theft on this forum. Goodness sakes. Why don't we have moderators that have the authority to ban these type of people ?

You that believe its OK to do this and promote this on a forum think its funny ? Sick people. Should keep a running log on the members that post this kind of talk and ban them

I am paying for insurance and paying a deductible. If my car gets damaged and I want to claim it I can....b.c I pay for it. Far from stealing. Like me and many others said, they encourage you to drop it or if you were to drop it in front of them they would give you a new phone. That is not stealing or fraud. They can refuse the replacement and then you are **** out of luck. It is called taking your chances. I bet everything is offensive to you

You can replace it for a scratch anywhere on it. Pretty much makes any phone replaceable under AC+. They will ask if you want a new back/front or to replace. Just say replace. These were my options when I shattered the back of mine.

Obviously they would not allow a poll or thread about it, but I would almost guarantee more than 50% would "drop" it. I don't think it is funny, I think that is the reality of applecare+ and what happens. If you cannot see that, you are naive.

THANK YOU.

That is plain stupid talk. "Drop it in front of them on purpose" That is theft pure and simple and you sir are wrong in what you promote and wrong in how you think. How old are you ? KIDs like you. God help us.

Go to the Apple store with a movie camera and ask the sales person if you can just drop it in front of him/her and get a new phone, and ask if Apple would not mind one bit. Go ahead and try that, post it so we all can rest easier knowing that you know ALL.

Your car being damaged in an accident is a valid reason to get it repaired or replaced. Intentionally damaging your car with the intent of getting it replaced is a crime. The fact that you don't understand the difference is shocking. People abusing insurance is a big reason why insurance costs are going through the roof. If your phone is damaged I have no problem with you taking it in and seeing if they will accept your claim. Intentional damage should not be covered. And if an Apple employee told you to drop your phone I bet they would not have a job anymore if their boss found out.

It's just the typical entitlement mentality that way too many people in this country have is a big reason for a lot of the problems we have as a society.

Reported you to the Mod. Unknown what will happen, but this is just insane and plain wrong what you are posting

Now place your hand Up to your four head with your index finger pointing upward and you're thumb pointing to the side ......

LOOSER!!!!!

You can't call someone a loser until you learn how to spell the word loser.

From Urban Dictionary:

looser

A looser is a loser who can't spell "loser".

To the OP:

Just take your phone in and have them take a look at it. For the most part, Apple is liberal with their repair/replace policy. They like to keep their customers happy and most likely they will do what they can to keep you satisfied. What you should not do is cause willful damage to your phone and claim it was an accident. That is fraud. That is basically what should be taken away from this.

The End, lock it.

The correct analogy would be if you had a scratch on your fender and then drove the car into a wall to get the car fixed and repainted. Ie.....having a cosmetic defect on a phone and then dropping it for good measure to get a new phone.

Backing your car into a wall because the paint job is rubbing off and you want a new bumper is most certainly fraud.

So you also intentionally wrap your car around a tree or burn down your house too when you decide you want new ones? Just because this is less money than those items the morals (and frankly, the legality), should be treated the same.

Nobody had to prove it. He announced it.

By the way, you're stepping up and being the poster child for every stereotype of attorneys that was ever presented by saying that. A fine upstanding member of the legal community.

exactly. If you want a new phone for cosmetic reasons, just drop it and then take it into the store. Even if the screen is not cracked, the damage from the fall is not "normal wear and tear", so they would replace it. Really the only reason for a replacement would be from damage not caused by normal wear and tear unless the anodizing doesn't hold up.

Why drop and pay $49. If it an electronics issue you can always get a replacement under AC+ for two years, either in-store or advance exchange.

Advance exchange treats everyone equally, i.e.., if you damaged it intentionally your CC gets charged. Because they handle bulk of the exchanges they know the difference between normal and intentional.

It is up to the Genius In-Store, there are cases where Geniuses exchanged broken/water damaged/out of standard warranty phones for free and times where they refused to give a replacement for a in-warranty good condition phone with voice quality issues.

I have a neighbor who exchanged every iPhone he ever bought for silly reasons without AC/AC+.

yeah b.c that makes logical sense.

not really to be quite honest. If you find a penny on the ground would you pick it up and put it in your pocket? What about if you found a suitcase full of ten million dollars?....

see how the financial implications actually do matter. You can't compare apples to oranges.

what you originally had posted here I do think is fraud and way different than having a phone that is damaged in your eyes, so you want a replacement. Apple tells you that is normal wear and tear and you disagree so "drop" it.

I completely understand where you and others are coming from...."fraud is fraud", but you have to be logical and use reason. Is it fraud since there is that grey area....some geniuses will replace it and others will not?

What about the fact I have been told by a genius to drop it if I want a new phone?

What about the fact I have been told by a genius to drop it if I want a new phone?

It doesn't matter what dishonest geniuses tell you. Read the fine print in AC+.

"ADH (accidental damage from handling) coverage does not include (a) protection against normal wear and tear, theft, misplacement, reckless, abusive, willful or intentional conduct associated with handling and use of the Covered iPhone,"

Also, "(v) The Plan does not apply to cosmetic damage to the Covered iPhone, including but not limited to scratches and dents, that do not otherwise affect the functionality of the Covered iPhone."

It's really no different from dishonest insurance adjusters telling you to deliberately damage your car then file the claim.

Thanks will do, appreciate it, and apologies if this turned into a controversial thread. didn't mean for that.

Then I'd call you because, obviously, one of your 'clients' isn't hiding his loot very well. Your name wouldn't happen to be Saul Goodman, would it?

You know that old joke, "What do you call a person who graduated last in his medical school class?"

I'm thinking that may also apply to law school as well.
