I don’t need AppleCare here in Norway, we have 5 years coverage, including support if there is a problem with the product under Norwegian Consumer Protection Law.

In terms of accidental damage, what is going to happen to a Mac sitting on the desk all day long? Anyway I still have insurance that covers accidental damages.

Its the same in New Zealand, its call the "consumer guarantees act".
We also get to deal with the place we bought it from, it is their responsibility to sort it out with the manufacturer not yours.
Retailers are also obligated to tell you your rights under the act if they try and sell extended warranties.
