I've chosen not to buy AppleCare. I prefer to self-insure all of my electronics purchases, considered together as a group, and my credit card provides a second year of protection if necessary.

Of course insurance works out well for some people, but the experience of a small group of users writing in about their repairs is usually not statistically reliable.

You should consider AppleCare if you simply can't afford the time and expense resulting from loss of an expensive product. But for my own situation, I have relied on the economics of insurance. In other words, for any given purchase, it's likely that AppleCare will not pay for itself.
