You're doing that wrong. Good luck fighting with Amex trying to get them to reimburse you on that extended warranty. It takes weeks, if you even get anything. Amex covers almost nothing as shown in the their warranty terms.

See below:

The sleep/wake button got stuck on my wife's iPhone 4s. I put in a call to Amex to file a claim and they reimbursed us $299 plus tax in the next billing cycle, all without even requiring paperwork or asking for the iPhone. I did the out of warranty replacement for $199 plus tax so I actually got my wife a replacement iPhone plus some $$$.

My iPhone 5 needed an out of warranty repair and I paid for it out of pocket. I filed a claim, submitted the receipt and they within days credited my AMEX account. It couldn't have been easier. And they credited me the entire original cost of the phone.

I filed a claim for my iPad 3 because the home button was flakey. Apple wanted 279 for refurbished replacement. I filed a claim with Amex. Next day they credited my account 499 full purchase price on the iPad with no questioned asked. I could've just made it up I guess.

I'll add, I always buys my phones with an American Express card. They have a policy on all their cards where they automatically extended the warranty of any electronic item by a year. So that's your two years of coverage right there.

So besides for water damage, what else am I really missing out on?

The best Tech Support in the world, for 3 years. Hopefully you won't need it, but when you do, they are awesome.

One was for screen and other water. I'm usually pretty careful but this year has been different for some reason.

Check out posts 17 and 31. You may be a bit dissapointed in depending on AMEX. I have AMEX also but it just doesn't compare to AC+.

1. It was a joke.

2. That's why I said buy AppleCare+ AND use an AMEX card.

3. Really, it was a joke. The whole line about Islamic terrorists wasn't enough of a giveaway?

The fail is strong in this one.

That's fine for you but I don't use american express.

And why do you keep missing out on the point that it extends the warranty by a year. That alone is why I bought it.

It's the ease of it all. You walk in with a broken phone and walk out with a working pristine phone. It takes 10 minutes if the store isn't busy or if you make an appointment. Every other warranty plan I have had has been a hassle. AppleCare is the best out there.

I don't buy AppleCare + for the first year, when I'm relatively aware and careful. I buy it for the second year, when I'm not.
Is it worth it? Haven't had to use it yet for a phone.

But I have had to use AppleCare for a MBP. Screen started acting weird. After two, no cost, attempted repairs, they just sent me a new machine.
So yeah, I'd say it was worth it.

I've gone for Applecare because Apple have always been easy to deal with.

Just go in, they check I have coverage, they give me a replacement. Easy.

The moment I have to phone another company, justify what's happened, explain the damage, get credited money, send the handset away etc... I just can't be bothered.

Sure Applecare is fairly expensive, but it's simple, easy and I'm lazy.

Well, u have to buy within 60 days. Cant just let one yr went by then decide to buy extended warranty.

AppleCare+ Is A Giant Ripoff!

I agree with everything you said, not to mention that when it comes to coverage via credit card I feel like I am always, like you said, justifying or defending myself to get coverage. I know some of you state you have had good experiences with credit card coverage but I feel like they assume I'm trying to pull something on them. In the end you really can't deny the ease and extent of coverage AppleCare+ provides for a device we carry on us 24/7 that only takes a split second to destroy.

AC+. Useful when you least expect it. And if you never have any damage to your iPhone then just consider it a cheap price for peace of mind for 2 years

How do you know I haven't looked at the numbers? Me saying to not throw numbers at me is me saying to not tell me what I already know. And I only said it once, I didn't keep saying it. Everything you just typed out, I know. I didn't get both without thinking it through. And like I've said numerous times, MY (not yours) peace of mind is priceless; I'll spend or do whatever I can to achieve it. I honestly don't care to "break even" since I didn't get the insurances for that reason. Lastly, it's nice that you're concerned about the money, but it's my money and I choose where it goes. :)

But peace of mind from what? The point of insurance is to protect against losing money, but you're saying you don't care whether you come out ahead or behind with this double insurance plan because "peace of mind". Besides money what else does two insurance plans give you peace of mind from??

Whats weird is that applecare+ costs the same whether you are insuring a 8gb iphone 5c ($450) or a 128gb iphone 6+($949) even though out of warranty repair costs/replacement costs are alot higher for the more expensive phones. I guess i would probably consider it for the higher specced models but not for the smaller ones.

I bought my 6+ with Amex, but still opted for AppleCare+. I'm not perfect (never claim to be) and have been known to drop my phones before. Amex will extend your warranty, but will not cover any accidents. I'm spending $100 for my own piece of mind.

Whether you think it's worth it is your own personal choice.

Just to add, if you're going the Amex route (and self-insure for screen/water damage) and buying the iPhone 6/6+ on contract, it's best to get at least the 64 GB model. That's because the subsidized prices are $299 and $399 for the 6 and the 6+, respectively, and that's enough to cover the OOW replacement costs of $299 and $329 for the two models. Otherwise, you'll have to cough up some extra money to cover the difference in the 2nd year.

The battery on my wife's 5S was finally starting to not last as long, and she was having trouble connecting to the wifi at work.

10 minutes after taking it to Apple (with AC+ of course as it's now beyond 1 year), and even though it was beat to hell (funny because she uses a case and I don't, I just take better care of things lol), they brought out a white box unit and swapped it for no charge.

They said, without any doubt, that had we not had AC+ it would have required an OOW replacement.

Almost makes me feel bad I have a 6 arriving tomorrow to surprise her =).

At least we'll get more $$$ for the 5S now, and didn't even need to use a $79 replacement.

AC+ rules. I'll never NOT buy it.

Even if you don't use it, for $4.25/month (~$1/week)??? Come on... And if you upgrade every year like I do (and she will, hehe), it's refundable too. I got $47 back of my $99.

No brainer

question

"AppleCare+ for iPhone extends your coverage to two years from the original purchase date of your iPhone "

WAIT A SEC!

Is it from purchase date... or time I get the phone. Since it looks like another 6 weeks till I'll have my phone. Why purchase just 21 months of coverage?

What's with Amex bashing? I never had problems with Amex reimbursement. Not just electronics, but also fees like lounges at airports and etc. However I did have ******** of problems with AppleCare. My last visit ended with me telling the manager that she was a moron who didnt understand her own system or basic rules in management and me writing a letter to Apple.

"But doesn't your home/renters insurance cover theft? Not to sure about loss as that is a very loose coverage. "

I'm an insurance agent in Texas.

Yes, Homeowners insurance WOULD cover your theft. But it would be subject to your deductible. In Texas, most deductibles are 1%. So lets say you have a small 100k house. That's still a 1k deductible. Losing an $800.00 phone would not be helpful and wouldnt even be something you could claim unless a whole bunch of other stuff was stolen at same time.

I ran my 5S through a wash cycle, in my pant pocket. Took it into the apple store, still dripping wet and walked out with a new phone for $79. It's worth every penny!

You can transfer your exisiting AC+ coverage to a new device. Nice share! I have had really similar experiences.

Amex would have reimbursed you the OOW replacement cost. No need to pay $99 (or $50 after refund). The real advantage of AC+ is it covers accidental damage whereas Amex doesn't (outside of the first 90 days).
