Well, this IS why I said I believe, indicating I could be wrong :p

Don't sweat it. :)

I've generally not gone with AppleCare in the past, but since every indication suggests AC+ is only available @ purchase time, I figured it's cheap enough to get it now and think about it further over the next couple weeks or so. With tax, the prorated cost is $1 a week. It's worth a couple bucks to just get it now and have more time to think it over.

So for those of us who simply rushed through the process and completed the order, do you think we have the option of simply calling Apple (once they begin accepting phone calls again) in order to add AppleCare+ to the order?

No problem.

In the AppleCare+ Terms and Conditions it states: "You must purchase the Plan while your original iPhone is within Apple’s One Year Limited warranty." That seems to imply that you can add it later.

I think it has to do with Verizon. My friends who are on Sprint and AT&T were able to get it, but I wasn't. It wasn't even an option, I could view the applecare+ but there was no way to add it to my cart. I had to cancel my Apple order because I get an additional discount through Verizon for renewing through them. I'm going to contact Apple to see why this happened.

If you scroll to the bottom of that page and look at the supported models, you'll see that the 4s is missing.

Interesting note, I hadn't gone that far down the page.

We shall see if this is the case moving forward or an oversight. I suspect the former, Apple usually seems to have things in order.

I should note that I was with verizon as well and was never given the option to buy applecare+ :(

Has anyone who went through verizon (on apple.com) been able to successfully purchase applecare with their iphone 4s?

I'm looking to get AppleCare+ too. When I ordered thru Verizon last night, i didn't see the option so I figured I'd buy it directly from Apple. But now I don't see an "add to cart" button on the apple page for AppleCare+. I hope I can still buy it. It's $99 for AppleCare+ but $264 over 2 years for Verizon's monthly insurance plan! And that still makes you pay $50 or $100 or something per phone replacement.

I just checked the Verizon page for Applecare - not the "plus" version - and it shows it as being compatible with the 4s:

Yes, the normal applecare is compatible, but that isn't what we want :( we want applecare+. And it seems like all of the verizon customers (even if they ordered from apple.com) didn't have the option to add applecare+ to the cart.

I called Apple and they said as long as we bring the phone in to an Apple Store when we get them next Friday and it is still in mint condition, we can buy AppleCare+. I was also told that the 4S is NOT elligible for standard AppleCare. Hope that helps clear up concerns.

I pre ordered the iPhone 4s online early this morning and there was no option for me to add AppleCare+ or regular AppleCare when I finished. I just got off the phone with apple and after talking with the AppleCare section and customer service this is what I found out. The AppleCare people cannot add this on after you make your preorder, it has to be done at the same time. He was aware that customers have been reporting that there was no option so he handed me off to customer service. The person I spoke with added a note to my order requesting the AppleCare+. He also said that if I do not get an email telling me that it was added then I will have to go to my local apple store (or call back) after I get my new iPhone as I need the serial number of the device. He did say to me that I have the year to go to the store to add the service. I for one will be making the trip ASAP if it isn't added to my order. Hope this helps.

(I posted this on another thread as well)

You are correct. I had the same issues.
I called Apple and ordered the iPhone over the phone and the rep was able to add it.

I was just reading the Applecare+ terms and conditions and it says, under item 11, General Terms:

"(x) You must purchase the Plan while your original iPhone is within Apple’s One Year Limited warranty. Apple is not obligated to renew this Plan. If Apple does offer a renewal, it will determine the price and terms."

So it sounds like we have a year. :)

Also, just saw this under "What is not covered?":

"(viii) A pre-existing condition on any Covered Equipment if you purchased the Plan after you purchased the Covered Equipment."

So...they are covering their rear. But still, we have a year! :D

Add: Except, the main part of the site still says that it must be purchased together with new covered equipment. So, it's all contradictory information. I'm still planning on buying right away, so I can feel safe going case-less.

What am I supposed to do? I don't live anywhere NEAR an apple store. Hopefully they will be able to do it over the phone... or there will be some problems.

Edit: Should I have not bought from apple.com if the closest apple store is over 200 miles away from me? There is a little apple hub in my local best buy.. but I Don't think Apple would consider it one of their stores.. Not sure on that though.

See my post earlier in the thread and the post I linked to.

The T&C are all well and good, but if you can't buy AppleCare+ separately what good are they? As it stands, I can't seem to buy it on its own via apple.com -- must be in the cart with a phone, and disappears when you delete the phone. Unless they do telephone and in-store orders differently, I'd be skeptical about having a year... Just sayin...
